got a tip for you to be cooler. on your first floor- place a fan opposite the sun and bring in the cooler air. second-place the fan blowing out of your upstairs bedroom window. as the sun changes during the day then move the bottom fan to the other direction. I think that will give you a little more relief from the heat and the humidity. give me a shout if that helps.

Hey Chris, not meaning to repeat myself, but my saying I prefer "travel videos" was to distinguish videos that people (not just you) make which show the countryside and surroundings - such as when you showed us the Naga City parade and the boats - as opposed to what some people do (not referring to you) which just have someone talking into a camera the whole time. In other words, if you show us a video of Naga City, your neighborhood, the surrounding area, etc. - then THAT is what I enjoy the most. I was not saying I expect you to travel all over the Philippines on $575 per month (or $300 now). I hope you understand what I was trying to say. Todd P.

I HAVE SOME ADVICE FOR YOU That's a Nice place and good luck with your new house Chris especially for the price BUT I WOULD BE VERY CAREFUL ABOUT SIGNING ANY INTERNET CONTRACTS With Either Global or Smart... Most of their installation contracts are for 24 months And Typically 1000 Pesos Each Month +3500 pesos for the installation fee and if you break the contract you are required to pay 24,000 pesos or 1000 pesos for each from your original contract date month. MANDATORY.! YOU SHOULD ALSO NOTE; you are never allowed to move the Internet location to a new residence and it's in the fine print so don't believe what they say at the store you will be required to pay the balance of 24 months and you will not be able to relocate your Internet service without signing a completely new contract for 24 additional months. Perhaps it is different where you live but I have not seen any different contracts since I have been here in the Philippines so be careful what you signed and best wishes for you in your new place

I'll be moving to the Philippines in a few days. And blogging about it and posting vids on my channel. But if people are demanding certain stuff they want to see in my videos I think they should pay me to do so. We all are in the Philippines for our own purposes, not for the audience. Our videos are merely a gesture to the public. So to those demanding travel: Donate a trip! And you get wat you want. :-)
@ABritinthPhilippines9 жыл бұрын
+Leaving Holland Hi there, this is my thought on the subject of donations. I moved to the Philippines on a budget no one would ever think was viable and I wanted to make video's to document my journey, a lot of people who have lived here a long time predicted trouble, however, I was determined to make it work and as you maybe aware, trouble and sickness came, to the point that I was so close to going home, at that point I could of asked for donations, but have always been of the opinion, it's my boat and it's up to me to keep it a float, the point being, I knew what I was getting myself into and it was not up to someone else to bail me out. Now back to video donation, yes I have a donate button on my web page, but it is voluntary and always will be, because I do not want to be put under any pressure regards content, quantity, or location and once you ask for donations, you would and will be expected to cover places and or content for which to donation was given? Once you are here and making video's, you will find lots of challenges and one of them will be the money it costs to produce the video's you will never get back, the next is the time it takes to edit, it all takes time and looks so easy, but it's not. I think you will find getting your content right to where people want to watch what you post, will not be easy, because even I get it wrong and probably will continue to do so, you will also be faced with the day to day stuff of getting round without help when you first arrive and that will be hard. I think when you get here and start making your video's you will reflect and wish you had never made a negative comment or gave a thumbs down, not that I am saying you have. I think the only thing us bloggers can wish for, is that people see the effort, time and money we put in to our channels and websites and decide in some small way to reward us, to help us improve and produce more video's and helpful information. I wish your journey well my friend.

Thanks Chris.. As a suggestion do a wifi scan with your computer see if anyone close has a decent signal If so find out who it is and consider making an offer to share the wifi on a monthly basis so no tied down contract.. Its seems like youre using Globe stick? I would advise you don't use Globe because they have no unlimited plans and it seems like uploading videos (even short ones) is bandwidth intensive. I would recommend Smart because they have unlimited promos. Another option is that you can just buy a LTE sim and plug it in your phone and just tether it by cable or just create a hotspot to connect to your PC. This should as fast or even faster than the stick. Cheers

Its a nice home! I can image to live there. I hope you will find a Place to stay longer. Have you any Health ensurance? Is it possible to bring the internet in this home with cable or so ? If my son has his own existence in Germany i will perhaps go to the Philippines, because Europe is not worth living anymore, especially when the Retirement is not enough to pay the Rent in in the € Countries. - and if i come, i will take a go pro with me, it seems a fantastic camera. I wish you the best and enjoy your new home, im a little jealous. :D
@ABritinthPhilippines9 жыл бұрын
+Raubkopierer100 The reasons you state are some of a long list of why I moved to the Philippines, if you get it right, get it wrong and it won't end well.

.................great Chris. You have a roof over your head and money for food. All the armchair travelers who want you to go all over the place to show them stuff can just get their index finger ready and push the donate button (lol). I'm happy to see whatever you produce.............Good luck and good health in your new place.

happy xmas ... would you ever consider selling your uk house and buying say ...10 and renting them out for income??
@ABritinthPhilippines8 жыл бұрын
+Mark Waite No, because at the moment at least the rents are not high enough to get a decent return and there is the little problem of not being able to own the land they sit on. If I had been married for a long time and had another income, then maybe I would consider it. Happy Christmas.

You could buy a usb extension cable so you could place your internet stick on a more suitable place. About your internet, is it globe, smart or sun? It costs 999 to get internet for a month for globe tattoo prepaid sticks. :)
@ABritinthPhilippines9 жыл бұрын
+Frederick Corbeza (Eric) Hi Frederick, it's Globe tattoo.. thanks for your info.
@mrshemminger9 жыл бұрын
+A Brit in the Philippines Chris Wren They have a promo on globe tattoo stick i used to use when i needed backup internet. I think up to 1 Gigabyte or 3 days whichever first for 100 pesos. so you probably can get away with loading it 10 times a month (every 3 days) for 1000 pesos.

And yet.....with all due respect because I have lived i several places, the cheapest being on Siquijor for 7500. BUT yes you CAN FIND a place for 1000 pesos but there are some thing that come with it; How is the NOISE THERE? You already said internet not good? Noise may not bother you but to others here the Philippines can be VERY NOISY and neighbors near can be extremely noisy........and nosy. The "CHEAT WINDOWS" i had to exchange for real windows in several places because the outside noise was beyond. So what about those kinds of things there? I will gladly pay more to escape some of the dross of life when you stay in a very "cheap" place. As we say in the states; You get what you pay for.
