I had my 3KW grid-tied (no batteries) solar system installed back in 2019 when the house was still under construction (in Panglao Island, Bohol). After typhoon Odette struck, I had it upgraded to 5KW Hybrid On-grid, with 2 batteries installed. I had the inverter configured to use the batteries at night to supply the house, including a 2.5HP AC. The batteries can last from 6-7 hours every night. At day time, it can generate enough power to supply the grid. Now, im paying not more than one-fifth of the bill had I not installed a solar system.

I ended adding 2 more panels just to maximize the system and any excess energy was just sent to the grid. I have not paid an electricity bill in over 3 years but like US the electric company has been add a service fee thats not covered by net metering.

Curious to know how the net metering pencils out, you probably know by now since the video is a year old. 5KVA is a good size system, we have a 9KVA system and net metering but the power company does not pay the same rate as they charge when I'm not generating power. just had my site assessment done for a hybrid system. The price has come down a lot. If you live with neighbors near that generator may cause some problems. If we lose power its usually at night. My biggest problem is my roof faces north, east and west. But this ain't Maine! Sun hits the roof by 9, so a good 6-7 hrs of sunlight on the roof. We bought a 30yr old house and are updating it. They did crazy stuff with the electrical back then. The main panel is in the kitchen cupboard! Moving it to behind the entry door in the living room and updating electrical, pole to house for an easy solar hook up.

Hi Cory, do you have storage batteries that will provide power during extended periods where cloud cover obscures the Solar Panel from providing enough electricity.
@thecosmicsnail2 жыл бұрын
Look more into the net metering. You can't be adding power into the system during blackouts and brownouts because of safety for power workers. From what I've studied, it is good to be tied to the grid but net metering can be a total headache. I'm just learning, but your system must be turned off during these events unless you manually switch it over. I might be wrong. But if true could defeat the whole purpose of solar rather than the cost of electricity. Love your videos and the compound is coming along nicely! Good info on the solar!
@ItsMe_Philippines2 жыл бұрын
Yea you are correct in a way. I have a shut off switch coming into the house for if/when a brown out happens. So if I switch that off it then switches only to the generator and will not send power back to the grid for safety issues.

Very informative..thank you for sharing. It is really nice to see the Philippines being chosen as an ideal retirement home for many expats. For one thing in general, the hospitality and friendliness of its people is cultural and natural. Filipinos are fundamentally shy people, cautious but willing to please others and they are generally happy to have little except the few rotten eggs that you see in the capital and some in the provinces. Compare here in the States, barrio folks call it the “Bayanihan” spirit. A collective and unity of spirit to render aid without asking anything in return. It is a proud cultural trait of Filipinos. On a personal note, I share the same observation you have about the United States and its society. I am at a lost why this great country came to be like it is now. Many nationalities that emigrated here served her and put their lives for the ideals that this country stood for (i am one of them) and now, decadence and deterioration of its institution is all I see. May be it is time to move back to a much simple life in the Philippines. I hope she can forgive me and accept me back for abandoning her long time ago.

Congratulations! I’m a strong believer in Solar especially here with an abundance of Sunshine. What’s the Delta between the cost of purchasing power v the rate you receive from the Power Company? I have a technical question…When you purchase Electricity does the Power go through your System and “Clean” the Power by turning their “Dirty Power into nice Clean Power” which drastically increases the life of your Appliances, especially Air Con units? I know when you use Battery Back up or a generator you have nice clean “Spikeless” Voltage. Thanks.

Are you planning on going 100% off grid? Like using solar in the morning then battery at night.

As much as I would like to, financially it usually doesn’t make sense. I may in the future but I want 90 days of data to see where I’m at.
