Sir let me say I love your channel. It has been a wealth of information and awareness for me. I used a Philips machine for many years. I now have spots on my lungs and I am working through the VA system here in the US to find out what it is and if it is of concern. As for you, ya know I was in Bosnia and did a lot of work for the USAF. There are a lot of extremely sad stories I can tell you. For years I suffered from a load on my back that I could not help everyone. I think you may be struggling with this. You are not the villain here. As I see it you have done a herculean job of helping get the word out and helping folks get the information they need to navigate this tragedy. Console yourself with my words. You cannot save everyone, you can only do what you can do. Yes, be disgusted by the actions of those that allowed this to happen. Be hurt by the stories, but do not let this internalize. Maybe let all this move you to make more videos, but not at the expense of your emotional and family health. I know that is easy to say and very hard to do. Believe me, I still see some of the faces of those I could not help. But at some point, you must come to the truth you did everything you can, but still, you cannot help everyone. Having a heart has some disadvantages. The advantages are far greater though. I pray for peace and light for you and your family. Blessings.

I agree Jenny, it's because of this channel I even found OUT about this horrific nightmare recall. So upset. But grateful for the information here, because I never got a letter from them. Imagine this CEO's nerve getting up talking about 'discomfort' when people like my mom died of lung cancer that their machines (she also had 2 on the recall list that we know of) likely contributed to! I have liver issues and horrible migraines almost daily, but yeah, it's nothing, don't let it cut into your profits Phillips, by all means, please poison millions of people and call it discomfort when they are suffering real life complications and DISease from using these machines.

Thanks to your teardown video I performed a foamectomy on the dining table this morning. I cut flaps rather than a hole so it was easy to seal up again. Only issue I had was that the foam had been glued internally so had to be pulled out in chunks.

Nick, I'm a Service-connected Vet and have been diagnosed with OSA back in November 2016 at my local VA Hospital and have using a CPAP machine (a confirmed Philips recalled one) ever since. I had a clean chest x-ray back in summer of 2016, just prior to my diagnosis and when I began use of the CPAP machine. I found out about the recall as I was navigating the VA Website...STILL NOT ONE THING NOTIFYING ME FROM PHILIPS! have medical background and was really upset. As a result I demanded a new chest x-ray, pulmonary function test and blood work to see if anything new showed up. Guess what? They found something on the chest x-ray and requested a CT Scan to get further detail. Here's what they found in my lungs: NEW 1) Benign - 10.5mm predominately calcified pulmonary nodule in the right lower lobe with surrounding tree-in-bud micro-nodules, 2) Right lower lobe - both a 5mm and a 3mm nodules, 3) Left upper lobe 2mm nodule and 4) Right Hilar Lymph Nodes have increased in size to 12mm. I'm greatly concerned! This is all new since using the Philips CPAP machine. My previous chest x-rays were clear and normal. I had to beg for a CT Scan with contrast in early 2022 to see if these areas are growing and if there's cancer. Normal protocol is to "just wait a year". I'll be pursuing legal assistance.

Hey Mark, thanks for sharing that information with me. Would you mind if i use it in a Vid? I won't mention your name if you like. Very sorry to hear it and i do hope it turns out okay in 2022. You're case is extremely important as you're probably one of the few who had a chest X-ray just prior to treatment! I would consider also having a look at your foam to see what the quality is like - kzbin.info/www/bejne/bITaeIt4mtNnhbc . If it was starting to degrade then that would certainly help in your case too. High humidity, heat and the use of ozone sanitizing devices also increase the degradation of the foam. Cheers mate. Nick

Thank the Lord that I came across your channel. All I was looking for was reviews on different masks. I have been using my DreamStation since April of this year. Like you have said in one of your previous recall videos, why haven’t Philips notified it’s consumers by sending a message to the CPAP device? I’m even more distressed after I asked my husband to what brand his CPAP is. It’s also a Philips. He’s been using a CPAP since at least 2014 after her had to have an aortic valve replacement. I know he’s had a replacement at least once since then due to wear and tear. Thank you again for your concern and dedication to keep us healthy and SAFE. Yes, I had a DS1, but as my therapy had only just started a month prior, I’m not affected medically speaking, only monetary wise, which is not a big deal compared to ones health. I almost wish someone would strap the CEO down and force him to breathe with these ventilators and CPAPs and watch him change his mind. You would think, with two Class 1 recalls from the FDA, that Philips would be bending over backwards to do what they can to appease the FDA as this as the potential to black list the company, right? I’m sorry, I’m rambling, I’m just so broken hearted for everyone who has been affected by this with their health or death. 🥺😢😭

Option 2: Potential for a full refund from the distributer or manufacturer. Philips has advised Under Australian Consumer Law (ACL) you may be able to request a full refund from the place you bought the affected device if it meets the ACL requirements. This defect would be classed as a “Major problem” under ACL as it is unsafe to use. You need to provide proof of purchase such as a bank statement, receipt, or even photographic evidence. The device needs to be within the working life which they have advised is 5 years. If the device meets ACL, the distributer cannot refuse to give you a refund or refer you to the manufacturer. You need to return the device - it does not need to be in original packaging.

Have had a DS for 3yrs and another Phillips before that. Also curious because of weight gain and blood sugar increase if any of that changes. US VA said it was fine and just use it. glad I de-foamed and it still works fine.

Hey Nick , i hear you about the current lockdown, and yes had the same comments about my COVID growth, i give you the same reply that someone gave me when i shaved mine off earlier in the year ' you look 30 years younger'. LOL, looks good man. As for the other info thanks again if not for you i would not have known about this debacle, and like you, listening to the patient comments had to take a break, still sh..ts me that there are still people out there that are misinformed or don't even know about the recall, jut got through on another forum spreading your channel and info to them hopefully they will get better informed, not from Phillps though..cheers mate thanks again for the hard work.. and keep safe in another Melbourne lockdown.

Philips CEO is sickening. His reaction is so corporate…it is as though what is doing on is minor. Tell that to those who are horribly ill. F’in idiot…his company has not just one but two Class 1 recalls for gawdsake. The posts you read from and about those who are desperately ill made me tear up. I feel so horrible for these people and can tell you do too. Good luck on the vaccination. Everyone is my family including 86-year-old mom has been jabbed and other than sore arms experienced nothing else. Oh…you look great with or without the beard although this video you looked younger so Mrs. CPAP Reviews was right. Lastly…our home has rid itself of everything Philips. Into the bin it all went. We are boycotting their products now and in the future. Cheers mate!

I called my provider. She said if you haven't used the cleaning solutions specifically designed for your cpap machine, then you are in the clear. She also said that if I don't see black foam in my tube or mask, I'm also fine. I really dont like that my provider is telling me this because that's super unscientific but I understand. What else can I do? Not use it? So what I want to know and since it seems I cant even make an appointment to see the nurse practitioner I normally see (idk the qualifications of the person talking to me now), can I get some sort of note from my provider to my insurance company to cover (in part), the cost of a new machine? I'm ready to buy one out right, but if I can get insurance's help, that would be great. I just don't know

Your vids are excellent. 👍 I currently have the "recalled" Philips Respironics Dreamstation. I know the Dreamstation has all those neat "Therapy" settings, I think I learned that from one of your vids. Whatever unit I would replace the Dreamstation with, I would like to have that same level of "therapy" options available. I am going to bite the bullet and replace this Dreamstation since Philips told me today they've no idea when they will replace or fix my Dreamstation, what would you suggest as a good solid replacement for the Dreamstation? Also do you have any vids reviewing the one you would recommend?

Hi there, thanks for the kind words. Much appreciated. Most viewers are updating to the ResMed AirSense 10 Autoset. ResMed is also bringing out the AirSense 11 soon but both machines are excellent. I've done a number of videos on the AirSense 10 and a few on the 11 also. Both machines will have access to those advanced settings that i discuss. Unfortunately I've already inhaled all this crap and fortunately for me I have no ill effects yet. I'm worried that many years down the line I'll end up with a cancer related to this cpap use and I won't be able to prove it was caused by my Phillips cpap. I wonder if the ResMed machine I got has any kind of off gassing since the machines are pretty much made of plastic and it still has a foam that the air goes through and I breath. Seems pretty dumb that the air moves through this foam at all. I'm now looking at an alternative treatment such as surgery to correct my sleep apnea.

The issue is the PE-PUR foam that is used for sound abatement can degrade resulting in a host of issues including death Souce: FDA. I recommend requesting them to provide a shipping label to send your machine to a qualified testing facility for analysis. At their expense. Unless or until this testing is conducted, you and they don’t know for sure if you may have been breathing in dangerous VOC’s. Don’t loose chain of custody with your machine by returning it. Request Philips ship you a DreamStation II which uses silicone for sound abatement.

wow only just found this as my mother alerted me to it having seen the class action on the news, I have used my cpap for nearly 3 years, now one wonders, I quit smoking 4 years ago and for a short time my smokers cough went away, but a few months later it came back and I just assumed it was because I had smoked for years, never dawned on me that it went away and came back a few months into the cpap use, I get a lot of headaches and always put that down to poor sleep although do not recall so many headaches prior to cpap use, last month was in hospital for a perforated bowl, not likely connected but could be a contributing factor because I use a lot of nurofen to deal with my headaches, I would have a headache 4 to 5 times a week, my overal health has not improved with cpap use like I thought it would, if anything the last couple years my health has gone down hill. It is a shit situation though because I am told the cpap helps me not have a heart attack in my sleep as I have accute sleep apnea and can stop breathing 100 plus times a night from 1 second to 2 minutes, so glad I spent the money on this cpap machine (note sarcasm)

PLEASE HELP - Regarding the DreamStation CPAP, I can’t find ANY answers to the following basic question: What tests have been done on “in the field” units, to ESTIMATE what percent of the units are affected, i.e., whose foam is emitting harmful gasses and chemicals. The optional in-line bacterial filters, used “in the field” for only a short time can provide the ideal samples for such a study. We the patients, who rely on CPAP need such data to make our own risk-assessment about use/discontinue in the near-term. Patient or anecdotal data on health-affects is mostly a correlation/causation trap. What about lab testing of our machines - perhaps through our used micro filters? Why is it that not even you discuss this - or help by suggesting actionable advice?

You just have to buy a new machine yourself. Probably a different brand than Phillips. Phillips is supposedly going to replace the faulty units, but it could take years to sort through that mess. They haven’t even received FDA approval for their new foam yet, so they likely can’t proceed with manufacturing the new machines until that happens.

@@insanity6105 Thank you for your reply, while my question remains unanswered. There is no information I could find that confirms that in time the PE-PUR foam degrades in ALL DreamStation units, only that they “may”, and that heat, humidity and certain cleaning techniques increases the likelihood. After three weeks use of the recommended in-line filter, and after its magnified examination, I could find no trace of any visible particles on the filter. Obviously, costly lab tests would be needed to prove whether there is any foam residue on the filter. Also, it seems less likely to have off-gas if there is no PE-PUR degradation (except for when the device was new - when most likely there were) . My point, if the probability of chemical exposure is much lower (perhaps minuscule) compared to the very real health problems one has by not using a CPAP, then in the near-term (weeks or perhaps 2-3 month) it may be best to keep using the DreamStation. Of course, unless one can find - and pay out-of-pocket for a desirable replacement, like the ResMed AirSense 10 - also considering that the AirSense 11 could be released at any day now. Respectfully.

Soon after using the dream station I began to have sinus and throat problems.. But I did not put 2 and 2 together until about 6 months later. Every trip to the doctor I would bring that up and of course they said that it was not possible. Now fast forward a few years and I keep saying I'm convinced that it's the cpap and I just get the run around from the doctors again. We are stuck with Kaiser doctors for the next several years and I've seen 4 different ones now and they all stick together. I have no clue what to do. And now I'm probably facing Sinus surgery.

Nick, Greetings from Singapore! Thanks for the great video.. I have stopped using my death station 1 for two weeks now, right after seeing your videos. I have called the company that I bought my DS1 from, and they advised me to stop using the machine. They are also waiting for Philips for the recall, but till now, they have yet any updates from them. It's affecting my life so much without the cpap machine. Im not sure what to do for now, and I can't go on like this. This machine is not cheap, and I've paid $1500 (SGD) for the DS1. I bought it in February this year and have used it ever since. It's very frustrating to know it's not safe to use after paying that much! So if I'm going to buy a new set for under a grand, which one would you recommend? The BMC Resmart G2S A20 Auto Cpap seems quite affordable.. Well, at least it's under a grand.. What do you think? Or anyone can recommend it as well? I appreciate any help you can provide. Thanks in advance!
