I bought these and thought how hard can the installation be, Philips should have described the process in their user guide. Boy was I wrong! I am seeing other images and videos of this light that do NOT have the mounting bracket, but instead have a black plastic backing. Any idea which model number you used here?

Don’t anyone think of putting it on the wall outside and showing us how affective it is and how good the range and brightness is. You’ve done they same as all the others and unboxed it and powered it up indoors with no real test None of you even turn the lights off indoors in your little rooms to show us.

Gruf, sorry for the delay in responding but if you know anything about how a camera captures light, it's almost impossible to accurately show how bright a light actually is when installed. I've tried this dozens of time and it never displays well. The true measure of brightness is the Lumens and color in Kelvin. Both of those metrics were discussed in the review and are the only metrics that matter when comparing one light against another.

Completely clueless comment. Ive been an electrical engineer for over 40 years and did a good job providing everything you'll need to know about how the light works and how to install it. Not sure what more I can do.

Can you mount this under an eave?

You can easily mount this under your eve as long as there is enough clearance for the light and you have a 4" electrical box installed. It's a great product! Thanks for the post and be sure to sub the channel and stop back soon for more content.

Mounting is the definite week point of this light. Trying to get the two mounting shafts into the two shaft columns is a PITA. You are better off using 3 inch #8 screws and screwing it into the wall. Otherwise the light is fantastic.

I totally agree that the mount is a challenge. I mounted two of these in outside boxes and one went really easy but the other one took a little more work. They did a great job on the light and could have done a little better with the mount. Overall it was still worth the work, the light is amazing. @R J Not whining at all. My mount was on a flat wall and screwing it right into the wall was the easiest way to get the job done.

Thanks for that tip. That’s exactly what I did. I mounted it to a piece of 2x6, and then mounted the 2x6 to a tree.

Can you attach this on the soffett upside down?

Rick, You can mount on a soffett as long as you have a 4" electrical box installed to mount it to. It's not terrible weatherproof so you might need a bit of calking as well to seal it to the surface. I hope that helps and its a really cool light. Stop back soon for more tech content. Rick

Dude, I bought a 4 inch square electrical work box. Bracket doesn’t fit. Box is too big diagonally. What?

The light is designed to fit over the box. Normally the 4" box is recessed into the exterior wall and not mounted on top of it. All porch/exterior lights work this way and you can attach them with the included hardware. Be sure to use a little caulking behind the mount to seal it from the elements.

I wish I’d have watched this video before purchasing my light. My intention was to mount this to the surface of my outdoor wall. But since there’s no back to the unit, I’m forced to remove my patio light and use the existing 4” electric box next to my patio door. Disappointing.

Yep, it does require a recessed box to install and it's just like a set of carriage lights that you might mount next to your front door. The recessed box is also used for holding the light to the wall. I wish they did a better job of weatherproofing the base but a little caulking did the trick for me. A review that just shows the light mounted to a wall and lit up provides no value at all since it's impossible to gauge how effective it will be in your backyard.

@@Agamerfr0zed As I already mentioned, powering up a light does nothing to illustrate how it works in your yard. There are too many variables involved to be of any value. The real details you need to know are the specs you can use to compare it to another light you might be considering and I covered all of those in the review.

@@GadgetHero1 99% of product advertising shows the items in real world use. Picture frames for sale literally show pictures of random families to give you a general idea of what your family would look like inside the frame.

@@ted6580 Ted, I appreciate the post but I did this clip well over a year ago and just didn't show the light in action. Most of the clips I produce are centered on the technical specs of a product, which is all that most folks care about. With a light like this one, it performs differently depending on the testing environment and the light it generates can vary depending on the camera & setting so it's totally subjective and useless quite honestly to show a light illuminating as any measure of it's quality. When you're considering a light, the only two things that matter are the intensity (Lumens) and the temperature (Kelvin). They are the only two true measures you can use to compare. Beware: My lamp is using an excessively high Standby Power of 7W when the lamp is off or brightness is at 0%. That's at today's rates more than 30 EUR per year to have no light!

Thanks for the post but all "smart" lights and cameras have a small background power draw so they can monitor for commands or follow a schedule. I agree that 7W is a little higher than most but the benefit of the light outweighs the cost for me.
