No idea why this channel isn't blowing up. Honesty when others disagree is lacking everywhere today, thanks for bringing yours. It doesn't matter if others agree or not, (seems a lot more agree to me). I've been consuming everything I can on Headphones, DACs, AMPs, all things Audio for PC lately. I find this channel refreshing in that you give your honest opinion, (based on a lot of practical use real experience), not "Peer Pressure" and then stand by it. I'm a Broke Ass Old Man but you've my support now for what it's worth, a few likes and my own opinion's are about it sadly. I've watched most of your videos now and for me just starting out, I think these are what I need. Anyway I just ordered a set off Newegg at $69.99 and can't wait to get them. I've been using the same Logitech G230's for over a decade now with shitty onboard sound. I figure now that I'm retarted - err retired, it's time to treat myself a little. So you keep sticking to your guns and giving your honest opinions, thanks for that, and I'll keep watching.

Thanks brother! Glad to have you on board :) It's tough man; sometimes you think you should be making more money and you're not. You think you should have more subscribers/notoriety but you don't. Being an artist has always been somewhat difficult for me. I've always made art and engaged in artistic endeavors because it's truly part of who I am. I wouldn't even call it a passion. That said, I told someone close to me some months back that I would still do it regardless of how much I was or wasn't making. Now I'm having to really prove it because honestly, it's been one of the greatest challenges lately just keeping my head above water. It's comments like yours that encourage me and keep me pushing through sometimes, because you do start to question yourself like "What am I even doing?" Because I've always been the type of person to seek the truth at all costs, it reflects in most whatever I'm doing, whether that be writing, painting, design, etc. KZbin and making videos is just another outlet for me to express it. Some people are going to appreciate it and others won't, but it seems like I've always had a harder time than others in building anything (whether that be a business, relationship, etc.) What keeps me grounded is knowing that it's really not about money or recognition at the end of the day. Some of the most depressed people in the world are the richest, with demons that we couldn't even fathom. I think about that BMX rider Dave Mirra. The guy had it all: Countless medals including 14 Gold, a beautiful wife and family, plenty of money, worldwide acclaim, etc. and he ended up blowing his brains out. That kind of shook me up for a while when I found out because I grew up watching the X-Games on TV. I read stories like this all the time online and it just really puts things into perspective. God has me in this place for many reasons (some of which I don't understand and really wouldn't want to). I believe one of them though is that when you are in a tough situation when you don't have much, you're grateful for every tiny, seemingly insignificant blessing that comes your way. If you have a health scare, it makes you more grateful for each day knowing that it could all just come to an end in an instant. That nothing in this life is guaranteed, not even 5 minutes from now. But this is way too long winded. Thank you so much for the encouraging words. Please let me know how you like the 9500!

@@HomeStudioBasics I actually enjoy them very much. I'm older now so my hearing isn't what it used to be. That of course means I don't get any Piercing Highs that I've seen some complain about. I've also used them with my Little Dot MK1+ w/Jan 5654's and really adds to the experience that are this Headphone. Best $65 dollars I've ever spent on Audio. I recently was able to acquire a pair of Hifiman/MassdDrop HE4XX's. They of course have a different sound signature than the 9500's being they have Planar Magnetic Drivers. They are of course to me amazing but I had to pay $148.00 shipped for them BNIB from Ebay. Are they more than double to price good or better? All I can really say is they're a different sound, much more detailed better clarity with punchier base and almost as comfortable as the 9500's with a bit tighter clamping force offset by Memory Foam Pads that are like clouds. I do however listen to my 9500's sometimes and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for an affordable and actually quite exceptional set of Headphones. I don't think there's anything, that I'm aware of at least, that can compete with the SHP's at their price. For the $75 or so shipped I paid for them they are quite extraordinary... Sorry TLDR: Yes, I'm very happy with them and even though I have a set of Planars now I still listen to them from time to time...

@@PreacherwithoutaPulpit Great to hear back from you! Yeah I honestly can't stand when people bag on people who recommend this headphone so adamantly, and the reason being is because of just what you said. It's SEVENTY. FIVE. DOLLARS. Lol. I paid $54! It makes me want to gouge my eyes out when I hear people complain. I do still hear that peaky area in the upper mids/low treble and it does sound a little essy at times but overall the headphone is incredible especially for the price. It represents the full audio spectrum beautifully. Would love to hear the 4XX sometime. You got a great price though!

@@HomeStudioBasics I have read and watched so many reviews over the past 5 years on headphones and other equipment, but few of them are as excellent as yours in my opinion. I'm honestly surprised that your channel isn't huge. Although, I do know that once a channel reaches a certain number it seems to gain momentum and grow almost seemingly exponentially. It's just a numbers thing. Anyway, I digress, I bought the HD600 almost a month ago and I find them exactly as you have reviewed them to be. I'm honestly disappointed in them and am sending them back. The main thing that bothers me most, is the very dark treble and the sound stage being barely wide enough to just fill the space between my ears. That said, I just bought the 9500. and wanted to say thank you for your review. It really helped. me sort out my situation. Also you have a terrific channel, great content,. great humor. I for one hope you keep on keeping on and look forward more videos. Cheers....

@@jaytaggert9883 Thank you so much for the support man! Many people over the last couple of years have said that and it can be a bit disappointing that I'm not growing faster but at the same time I love what I do here and really enjoy helping people out in any way I can. I'm going to keep putting in the work and hopefully it will continue to grow. That's also something I don't like about the 600's. Soundstage just isn't that great although I still enjoy them aside from that 3k area; it's always bothered me. How do you like the 9500?

What more could you possibly ask for? So glad you're enjoying them :) I'm gonna do a cool little grille mod to them here soon. Thanks for your KZbin reviews and also for your amazing webpage. Since I was bitten by the audiophile snake and its poison inoculated, I have spent long hours watching and reading almost every existent review 😅. And I have to say that you are one of my favorites (if not the best of all). I really love your webpage, especially the side-to-side comparisons that you made. You sound knowledgeable but not pedantic-know it all (like others KZbin gurus do). And most important, you sound HONEST (like other You Tube don’t do, or at least I wouldn’t bet my money that some of them are not subsidized). I can’t believe that you only have 476 subscribers (and I can’t really explain either why I only became your subscriber today 😳). And please, don’t be discouraged for it, you do what is your passion and you do it very well!. At least in my case, your opinion made me decide to buy some of the headphones that I own. Keep going, you make your readers and subscribers feel like we are really privileged to have you out there 😄🙏. Best regards.

Like I always say to people, it's comments like these that keep me going during the tough times in life and I'm certainly in one now though I'm so blessed in many ways. Thank you so much man! And you're right: I am very passionate about this stuff and have been all my life really. The funny thing about it is now that it's become a job (Blog, etc.), some of the joy of actually just listening to music has faded. It's kind of sad in a way. I remember having the time of my life listening to and making beats but when you're out there on you're own it's tougher to just sit back and relax which is what I need to work on more (while still fulfilling obligations and all that). I think even just growing up you kind of become a bit cynical about even your perspective. There's this weird existential kind of realization that none of it really matters that much in the grand scheme of things. Music itself gets stale, you're more picky and fickle about it, your tastes change, etc. I just wish I could catch that feeling in a bottle again, of being young and experiencing the world with this innocent naivety and wonderment, but the harsh reality of life is that it actually kind of sucks. Lol. I want to do a video on this actually. Analyzing music sometimes can become a chore although I always seem to find positive energy at night and in the morning, and try to harness it as much as I can. Like I've been listening to a lot of Big Band lately because it just reminds me of my Grandparents and how precious they were to me. It just makes me feel good! Lol. Let me know what you think about the new layout for the homepage and if you have any ideas for articles! homestudiobasics.com

The shp9500 hold their own against those headphone. Broke them in watching 5 hours of Game of thrones and never ounce did I adjust or move this headphone, comfort is the best ever. @@HomeStudioBasics reporting back as promised. They took a bit longer to arrive, but arrive they did eventually. I'm pretty sure that they aren't knock-offs after all, as the sound quality is really very good and detailed. I didn't want to review them until I had lived with them a bit, and heard a wide variety of music, games, movies and TV on them, and also given them time to open up a bit. I'm glad that I did, as at first they didn't blow my socks off for some reason - but after a few days, somehow they did. I'm not sure if I needed to get used to their relatively more refined sound, or if they really did just need to open up a bit, but I like them a lot more now. Most headphones I encounter are closed backed, and though I can understand why most people prefer more bass and more privacy, these are a refreshing change. I have no problems with the lows, mids, or the highs overall - even if they are a tad bright, they are by no means shrill at all. The bass is tight and by no means lacking, and I like a bit of warmth and depth in my bass generally, so I wouldn't worry about it being insufficient. It's quite deep when needed, and even deeper if required by the track. For me they are great. They really show up the flaws in the source device, be it an amp or a phone etc. I think that that attests to their level of detail and refinement in itself. They are also very comfortable and lightweight for long listening sessions, and being open-backers, not having to remove them to have a short conversation with my GF is actually very convenient. The sound leakage in the other direction is less so, but that's also fine. I don't use them in the bedroom, only in the lounge with my Onkyo 9010 amp mostly. My GF likes to call me Princess Leah when I wear them because of the shape and size of the earcups, but like I said, I only wear them at home, and for sound quality like this, she can laugh all she likes. :) They do have that desirable effect you want in a new piece of audio equipment; They make you want to re-listen to music you have heard a million times before, just to hear the difference and any newly exposed details, and I think that that's a good thing. The soundstage is great. Maybe not perfect, but still really good. Overall, $72 well spent I think. Maybe I should have waited for Black Friday, but no regrets here otherwise. :) Thanks for the video review.

Are they any better or worse than HD 600 I cant tell because I havent heard 600´s (only 650) but they are still pretty damn fine headphones nonetheless especially for the price. I havent spend much time with them lately because my pair seems to have channel imbalance which gets too annoying in certain songs (but im planning to lend them to my friend who tries to fix it). If I remember right I didnt hear TOO MUCH of a difference between SHP and R70X when I listened to them back to back while ago. Is measuring headphones a trend nowadays? Everyone seem to own measuring equipment, friend of mine also bought one. Im not quite interested about that yet, isnt internet like full of measurements or what lol.
@HomeStudioBasics
@HomeStudioBasics 6 жыл бұрын
The 650's are my benchmark for a complete audiophile headphone along with a Sundara. There's really nothing they don't excel at. Perfect example of the audiophile experience as far as overall Sound, Imaging, Build, Comfort, etc.. I enjoy the 9500 better personally than I do the 600. The 650 is a bit different because it's not as snappy or crisp sounding. I definitely prefer it over the 600 now as it's not so grating. It kind of smooths over the rough edges and there's def a time and place for that. I love kicking back with the 650 and just relaxing. It's funny how spoiled I got with the 650's comfort level as well. It's just insane how great they rest on your head and going back to some other lesser models (in next weeks video), you can really see why both the 600 and 650 have stuck it out for so many years. As far as measurements, a friend of mine let me borrow the unit and I had a lot of fun with it. You can really waste a ton of time with this thing lol. I'm a measurement guy and have been since day 1. I always like to look at graphs and so I've kind of been into it from the start. I'm still learning and I wouldn't take any of mine as gospel but because that graph perfectly represented what I hear in both headphones, it seems pretty accurate to me. The only thing is I'm not sure why it peaks out after 10k.

One of the reasons for me to buy the SHP9500 was your review, I like my 58X better, feels like a refined 9500, but I agree that the 9500 is great and for most people it's just enough. it's not worth going up. SHP9500's headband and the marks to adjust the size is much a much better system than Sennheiser's, they lack any marks and you need to count each side to have the same level on the bands also they are way too hard to move, comfort is subjective but the 9500 is better in this regard as well for me, yes pads are shallower but they don't clamp so much. Overall the 9500 is a good, simple package that just works. It sounds good, it's cheap, it's easy to drive, it's comfortable, you just buy it and it works, and that's why I respect it so much. Just one question Stu, I heard people saying how the timbre on the HD600 for strings is legendary, violins sound great. Have you tried to compare them? Do you notice the superior timbre? Also in your opinion DAC's are worth it? My PC has a decent DAC, cable says HD audio (I know this means nothing, but this logo is more recent, so it means the DAC isn't too old or cheap). Well after you talking about Tidal now you made me want to buy Tidal dang....
@HomeStudioBasics
@HomeStudioBasics 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks man! Great to hear from you.. A friend of mine is borrowing the 600 right now. He's been lending me the 650 on many occasions so I'll have to get back to you on that. The last time I did a side by side comparison of them I would say Timbre is a bit more natural on the 600's from what I remember. That's one quality about that headphone that's always remained a fixture and something I never get tired of. The problem is that it can sound too forward and gets fairly annoying pretty quickly which is a drag. I will write back after I get the headphone back though! Timbre on the 9500 is excellent though. There's a real natural character to the instruments and vocals. Kind of effortless actually. Very smooth and buttery. An upgrade in your DAC really does depend on your PC. My old laptop's Soundcard is awful and a better DAC is mandatory. Others with newer tech may not even notice a difference between their internal one and something like an E10K. I do think a Dragonfly Red is a clear upgrade regardless of what you have, but may not be worth the $200 for some. I can hear a marked improvement though, and it's why I tend to recommend it a lot. Yeah Tidal is awesome. It's nice being able to type in literally anything and find it. Like I searched for this group called Midwest Product that I used to listen to around 2005 and their albums were right there ready and waiting for me. We're talking about one of the most obscure underground artists you can think of. Unfortunately I can't bring myself to listen to it because it brings back a lot of bittersweet melancholy memories of some old friends. Good times though for sure.

This video is so spot on. I have a e10k DAC and with lossless files, or even CD, the quality I got out of my shit Sennheiser 202s (the $20 budget ones) is incredible. The problem is most people add the DAC and higher quality tracks after they already spent on the headphones. I have the Grado 60e and Status CB1 and im pretty much at my max. I may get some 600s or 559/599s or X2, and like a Schiit stack as my ultimate endgame. But even that's probably 3% better than my Grado/E10k setup. It really is a Dac/amp and high quality music. Even my 10 year old 202s sound great.

When it comes to our five senses, preferences will be different from one person to another. People differ on taste for food, perfumes, clothes etc. It's all subjective. And that's because our brain works differently and process things differently. More so with audio. Some people really like their HD600s and that's great. Some people don't actually enjoy it, and that's fine too. All these reviews serve as a guide. And you did the job perfectly, helping people like us make a buying decision

@@Vonneti Can't wait to hear your impressions of those!! I really love the T2. I asked about the bass because there was this ridiculous claim going around that they didn't have enough bass. XD. In my opinion that's false. It's basically a flat line and sounds absolutely superb to my ears. There's a nice amount of thump but it never borders on too much while also not rolling off like some mid-fi audiophile type headphones. Dude I could talk about Modest Mouse for days lol. Was really big into them in my younger years. Gosh that's so hard to say. I loved so much material by them. Honestly they bring back bittersweet memories of Summer 2005 and a girl. That's a whole different story though. We actually saw them live that year it was a great show. Unfortunately, I can't even listen to them anymore because it's just kind of painful to recall some of those moments even though they were good. "Beach Side Property" "She Ionizes & Atomizes" and their first album This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About is a standout for me, as well as "Broke" and "Never Ending Math Equation" from Building Nothing Out Of Something. Modest Mouse has such an amazing discography that it's hard to pick a favorite. If you held a gun to my head and said choose I would probably say Long Drive, Building Nothing Out Of Something, and Moon & Antarctica which is front to back probably their most complete. What about you man?

Yeah I mean the Utopia is still the best headphone I've heard and even side by side with an LCD-4 I think it easily wins out. The 4 is a bit too dark for my tastes although I do love the Audeze house sound. It did seem darker than some of the others but I haven't gotten a chance to A/B it against an LCD-3, X, etc. I get so much more enjoyment out of a 9500 and at times I've even tried to force myself to like a 600 more and can't.

Hey man my pleasure! Yeah the bass on the 9500 does roll off quite a bit in the sub area below 100Hz, but I enjoy how clear and articulate it is. @HomeStudioBasics 5 жыл бұрын
Hey man! 598 is going to be more relaxed sounding, perhaps a bit "wooly" in the bass region. Still very detailed and open but a lot more subdued than the more aggressive 9500. I guess it would depend on if you want a more exciting, lively sound vs. a warmer, somewhat more natural one. The 598 definitely isn't for everyone. Some people just find them dull and I can see what they're saying. I do like them but at times the bass gets kind of fuzzy and a tad bloated. It's a headphone for kicking back and relaxing with certain, semi specific genres like Jazz, Acoustic, Classical, etc. I would go with the 9500 but that's just my opinion. Bass is still light on the 9500 but it's very detailed and articulate sounding. Mid-range is great and the only trouble area is the high mid/low treble around 5-7k. A bit too much energy there at times but overall the best open back for the entry level audiophile I think. Keep me posted on your decision and let me know if I can help out further!

Start with Oh, Inverted World and then just go to Chutes Too Narrow which followed. I think you'll like the song "Caring is Creepy." I can play and sing "New Slang" in fact I want to do a cover of it on this channel when I get some upgraded equipment.

Dude I'm listening to Chutes Too Narrow for the first time in quite awhile and it's probably the best album front to back that I've ever heard. Like I forgot how good it is. Usually with other albums I skip the songs that I don't like but... the whole album is incredible. Every song is noteworthy. That's one of the rarest things to come across, especially nowadays. Back in 2003 perhaps it was a little more common but still not really.

Home Studio Basics the best album you say? I’m very excited to hear it then. There’s a few albums like that for me and it’s a very short list. OutKast’s first 3 albums, in the aeroplane over the sea, check your head by the beastie boys and that honestly might be it. It’s rare to find albums that can do that. Check your head is really the only album on that list I gained a lot from the lyrics and touched me in that kinda way so it’s extra special. I just see the OutKast and neutral milk hotel albums as great art.

I've really wanted to check these out for some time, however I've read that the bass is non-existant. As someone who is a big fan of some serious bass, that killed this headphone for me. That said, in your opinion, if paired with a K3, would you say I should stay away or give them a go? Btw, I find your opinions and videos to be refreshing. You don't buy into bs or hype and you tell it how you see it or hear it. I haven't worked through your entire playlist yet, but if you haven't already done one, a "best" basshead headphone would be a great watch.

Hey man thanks for the love! As a former bass head my tastes have somewhat shifted into more articulation, detail, with some bass. So it's hard to say. I def wouldn't call it non-existent, but then again, my tastes have changed like I mentioned. If you're looking for serious bass, the bass boost on the K3 + 9500 is pretty good, but may lack that serious weight you're after. Listening now to The Next Movement by the Roots, which is a good test track as it's bass has impact but isn't bloated. The 9500 does pretty well with it. Even with that, at it's current price on amazon it is a steal, and around what I paid in 2017. I love the headphone and do recommend it often. You may also look at the Creative Aurvana Live though. I just did a review. kzbin.info/www/bejne/o6KXinavnbqWbZI It has a nice amount of bass. I would say the CAL and 9500 are a great closed back/open back combo under $100. Hope that helps! Let me know.

@@HomeStudioBasics Thanks for the reply! I've seen the CAL suggested a few times. An issue is I live in Canada and even our Amazon has prices that are much different then you'd see in the US. For example, I can get the E10K for $90 or the K3 for $150. The 9500's are up there at $87. Right now, I'm debating between the 9500's, the x2HR's (they will be $200 after shipping and duty) or the CAL which I think I could get for around $90. Have you tried the X2HR's? Lastly, in your opinion, is the K3 worth the extra $60? I know that's not a lot of money but I've made some pretty poor audio related decisions over the last year and I haven't kept anything I've purchased, including the HD6xx's. The last set that I purchased that I was completely satisifed with are the old Sony XB700's. I use them to this day and still really like them, I just can't help but feel that headphone tech has advanced so much in the last decade (I picked up the XB700's probably 9 or 10 years ago) and I want to see what I'm missing out.
@HomeStudioBasics
@HomeStudioBasics 5 жыл бұрын
@@justink2519 Hmm. If you really like your bass I'd go with the X2HR without question. I haven't heard them but I've done a lot of research and read quite a bit about them over the last couple of years (the original X2). It's a massively popular headphone and well worth the investment from what I've read. The bass is what people rave about most (how good it is). Of course there will be people who don't like it and I've come across a few of those. But the same thing happens with something like the 9500 or CAL. I'm surprised you didn't like the 6XX. :( That's probably my favorite overall headphone. I still have a pair of HD600's and thinking about swapping for the 6XX. Anyways, whether you go with the K3 will depend on a few things: Do you plan on listening to any DSD tracks? Will you use balanced headphones down the road? Do you need an optical out? The E10K actually has more power than a K3 surprisingly enough. If you don't need that extra stuff, I'd go with the E10K and save some money. You can always upgrade later. The cool thing about both is they have a line out so you can easily hook it up to a separate amp should you choose to get one later for more power/experimentation. Check out my comparison: homestudiobasics.com/fiio-k3-vs-e10k/ Let me know if that helps man and keep me posted on your decision process.

I also found out that the X3's are due out in January so I may hold out on the next headset to see how the X3's are. Thanks for your time and input!

Sorry I disagree that it's better than a 600, it's good but it's not better. I won't tell you, you haven't amped them properly, I own both headphones and to my ear the shp9500 is very grainy and artificial compared to the HD 600. Again the shp9500 IS a good headphone, but I can't agree that it sounds better than the 600. This is coming from someone who had the 9500 first and decided to buy a HD 600, I'm not a biast person I try to be as objective as I possibly can about certain things. And as a result of saying that, I'm going to try the shp9500's on Tidal MAYBE I'll see it your way after I do, who knows.

Completely agree. The HD 600 is just bliss for vocals.. They are more enjoyable than the SHP9500 IMO.
@HomeStudioBasics
@HomeStudioBasics 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for not jumping down my throat about it. In all honesty, both have their issues. The 600's mid-range is too much, and the low treble on the 9500 can be problematic. I guess my main gripe with people who attack me is that they act like the 600 is a perfect headphone when in reality it's just not. Both headphones have aspects to them that annoy me but the 600's mid-range is more annoying IMO than the 9500's treble. What I said in the video is that detail retrieval is on par if not better than a 600 and the imaging and separation/clarity is better. Def still stand by that.
@bluack123
@bluack123 6 жыл бұрын
@@HomeStudioBasics Yeah, however I feel like the 600's mid range being too forward isn't a bad thing. Most of the time in music, the vocals are forward by design, and the 600 brings that out even more, and you can just dial the mids back if you don't like them being as forward as they are. I don't really see that as a con, but I don't think you can fix the grain of the 9500 with EQ I don't know how to describe it but it just sounds low quality / artificial by comparison maybe tinny is the word? I'm pretty new to this hobby, so I'm sorry if what I'm saying is coming off as weird. You say imaging / separation is better on the shp9500 and I can't argue that point becuase I don't know if it is. It could be better, I haven't invested enough time to know which is better at that. But the sound quality of the 600 is leaps and bounds above the shp9500 imo it is a night and day difference which is being listened to. I'm 100% sure I could identify what headphone is on my head doing a blind test based off that alone. I however would say that the SHP9500 is just under neath the 600, better than the 598, better than the 558, better than the beyerdynamic DT 880, better than the AKG around that price too, I just don't think it's better than the 600, imo it's a tier under it. I also want to add if we're talking PURELY based on value then the SHP9500 flat out wins, for most people it is absolutely the better buy. But if we're factoring in how things sound then IMO the 600 wins, again the 9500 doesn't sound bad, far from it. I just think the 600 sounds a lot better.

i'll trust an audio engineer over and audiophile 9 times out of 10. most audiophiles don't really seem to know what they're talking about at all. you can even check the frequency response graphs on rtings and the 600 and 9500 have damn near the exact same response curve. Anyone who's saying there's a big difference in sound is just uninformed or suffering from confirmation bias. the amount of insane nonsense i see audiophiles spewing on reddit is so cringe.
@HomeStudioBasics
@HomeStudioBasics 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah my whole point with these two is that they both annoy me in different ways with regards to sound signature. The only real difference is that the 9500 sounds a bit too forward/bright in the low treble area at times, while the 600 has a mid-range that's too forward around 3k and annoys me after awhile because I feel like the vocalist is shouting. Some people have come on here and acted like the 600 has no flaws and is the best thing since sliced bread which just isn't true. I also prefer the sound of the 9500 and that just doesn't sit well with some. They feel this inner need to attack me for it and it's just silly. Audio is very subjective so when people try to make black and white statements I just have to laugh.

Ehhhhhhhhhhhhh The HD 600 at this point is the meme in the audiophile community. If anyone ever asks for a $300 budget and wants a open headphone. HD 600. I didn't really like it so I sorta returned it lol...... >_> But its decent for a good reference since pretty much everyone in the headphone community knows it and compares it to a lot of headphones. Never tried the 9500 but if it is like a mini hd 600 its probably not too bad. I heard the 9500 have a meme going on as being grainy. Maybe one day I'll be able to try it.
@HomeStudioBasics
@HomeStudioBasics 6 жыл бұрын
Lol if by grainy they mean clear and detailed. I would describe it as hot, maybe too much sizzle, but I would never use the word grainy. To me that implies something else that I can't quite put into words. Grainy is like an HE400S at times. I don't really get that with the 9500. That's just me though. The 600's flaws became really apparent to me after a couple of years and while it's still a good headphone, I actually do prefer the 650 over it because I can listen to music for longer periods of time and not be completely annoyed by that 3k area.

I don't really get what they mean by that usually like these descriptive words I've never heard of in audio, how am I supposed to understand it. Lol they are referring to the name of the rice, like "long grain" white rice or whatever. Pretty stupid XD. I tend to use audiophile terms kind of subconsciously but I like to mix in things that people will understand as well. What were you running the 600 out of?

@@HomeStudioBasics Yeah lol. JDS labs atoms and ol dac. Although If I'm being honest I couldn't tell a huge difference from my onboard audio(alc1220 +ES9018) and my LG v20 phone. All 3 could easily power it respectively at 9 o clock on atoms, 20% on windows volume and 10/75 on LG v20 hifi dac. I think I might have enjoyed it better on tubes but electrostatic vacuum tubes made by Stax didn't make a huge difference with their headphones with the sound if anything just a bit warmer.
@HomeStudioBasics
@HomeStudioBasics 6 жыл бұрын
The idea of tubes is kind of funny as well because we're kind of attempting to fundamentally change the sound signature of the headphone in question, which kind of defeats the whole purpose of experiencing what it actually sounds like. Enthusiasts shouldn't have to go on this wild goose chase with this idea of "well I have to amp them properly." "I have to find the right amp." If a headphone doesn't sound good out of the box, then it's really maybe just not very good. Lol. The idea of EQ is okay I guess, but I'm kind of a purist in that sense too. I prefer clean amps with low output impedance and that's why I love JDS labs so much. They just understand the needs of the average person looking for value and great sound. I really want to get my hands on an ATOM but they haven't sent me one yet.
