I updated to the X3's but these are LEGIT. Seriously. VERY good headphones. Only reason why I upgraded was because I needed thicker ear pads as my ears were rubbing up against the driver wall. Also, I needed overall better quality and definition. Still, these are my backup pair in case my X3's ever eat shit. And I know you said it's not bass heavy, but it is BASS ACCURATE. The bass is definitely there, just not a lot of rumble and shake. The mids are a little recessed, and the highs are airy and bright. Honestly, WICKED sound for the price.

If anyone is looking for a good cheap alternative now that the SHP9500s are gone - look into the Monoprice Modern Retros. I bought a pair and they get used as much as my SHP9500s do. They are super uncomfortable with the stock pads, but with a replacement pair of Brainwavz pads (check Amazon) they're ~$50 total and sound pretty sweet. They're closed unlike the SHP9500s, but the sound stage is still pretty good and there is a some bottom end unlike with the SHP9500s. Look up reviews of them (ZReviews) - I'm not a looney suggesting $22 headphones with $25 replacement pads - they're actually very very good for the price.

You are completely Right Eric. The monoprice Retro are an absolutely fantastic, incredible and amazing pair of headphones for the price. I was absolutely blown away by them. I own over 60+ pairs of headphones ranging from $20 all the way up to $1600 and the monoprice Retro ($25-$35) with the right pads on them easily compete with many headphones in the $100-$350 range no problem. Even higher prices ones if you do the correct mods to them. I actually own two pairs of them because they sell out so quick all the time and I never want to be without a pair of them in case my first pair ever breaks. I own many high end headphones like I said with several costing over $1000 and I still find myself reaching for my retros a lot of the time.

All AKG clones. I love my Talent headphones with my Dekoni pads which cost more than the headphones. 🤣
@soldierboy23506 жыл бұрын
@@joentell week first off the retros are closed back unlike all of the following you mentioned. Also, just because they have similar look you can trust me when I say that is where it all ends in similarity. The monoprice Retro have a monstrous sound that absolutely dwarfs every headset you mentioned and all other like models. I know this because I've literally tried all of them. The retros are in a league of their own. Completely. Furthermore, for a "closed back" headphone it's soundstage and imaging is even far superior to ask the other models including the open backs, yes you read that correctly, "far superior soundstage over the open back models." You won't regret giving them a shot.

I had a chance to sample both the 9500 and 9500s these and they a one of the best buys in headphones today. Can you recommend a carrying case for Philips SHP9500?
@metamario97286 жыл бұрын
Maybe because I'm older, but the m50x sounded like I was being raped in the ears with ice pick highs where as the SHP9500's literally send shivers down the back of my neck when I listen to really well recorded music. Not only are the super comfortable (if a bit sweaty) but the sound is rich, filled with soundstage and accurate. I feel like I'm watching a live show in a studio. I love bass, and for me the bass is big enough, just not as bassy as say my Fostex t40rp's, but man I love the SHP's.
@joentell6 жыл бұрын
I enjoyed the SHP's also. I felt like the highs were more intense on the SHP's compared to the M50X's
@metamario97286 жыл бұрын
Hersey Berry That would probably work, but I already have the m40x with brainwavz which I absolutly love. Especially with the pads, but stock I liked the sound signature better. Nothing wrong with th m50's, just too painful for me.
@thiscorrosion9005 жыл бұрын
You're not the only one, I tried buying the m50xs last month and returned 'em because of the highs and unpleasant metallic edge to the sound. Otherwise they were fine comfort-wise. I just haven't had luck with AT. However, I tried these as well, and they were ok but I wasn't as knocked out as I'd hoped, and they were leaking sound like mad, but of course they did, but they were a bit looser on my head than I'd thought. Also, the bass was not impressing me at all. But for others who love the open light sound signature, they are an amazing deal, no doubt. Plus nothing comes close to my Hifiman He400Is for opens, thus far. I ended up dumping all my old headphones, or will, and I ended up with my trio endgame of: the Hifimans as my primary home cans, the Pioneer X7s for sheer portable power and bass-centric music, mainly, built like tanks, easy to drive and C. Picked up a pair of Sennheiser 569 closed-backs that are on the way, just to see if they are as good as promised. My reasoning was that I already have my end game open cans, so I needed to upgrade for closed-back portable cans for on-the-go. I run everything through an A5 Fiio amp now, so that's covered. That should do it. But if you need super light open backs, these are good! They weren't a requisite for me, but they are good headphones, no doubt. If you have a larger head they should be even more snug and comfy. They definitely aren't bass-heavy cans, the Philips. I also found them sounding better with jazz than rock or pop.

I'm totally lost. Recently I started searching for a headphone and after watching a review about the Fidelio X2HR, I really wanted to buy these. But...almost impossible to buy where I live. So I looked further. I found out that the SHP9500 are real good for gaming and this is what i need. I need a headphone mostly for gaming and a bit less for movies. And if so...you should buy the SHP9500? Right? Or not? Because there are also youtubers who ays it's mediocre and grainy. So it's confusing for me and even more of you read the end of my reaction. Edit: I could have posted this on a lot of other forums etc, but comparisons of the SHP9500 and the opnion of people reacting to this vid, is really what got my priority. And the stuff at the end of my reaction, is all based of watching and reading an unbelievable and weird amount of reviews. comparisons, user experiances and opions from all around the web. First of all, I am not a bass head, but I do appreciate a little more 'oemph and thumb' , then a really neutral headphone delivers. To me it makes games and movies kind of empty and dull. Gun shots, the slamming of a door, a car crash, they need to have the sound impact, which goes with what you see. So what I don't like with games and movies, is this neutral sound where nothing stands out. What I also don't like is when the highs are to clear and crisp. It tires me like crazy. Really really a lot, which also gives me a headache. Little big side note here is, I have a real good hearing, but due to an accident, I always have a headache. On a good day a little. On a bad day a lot. This is also tires me a lot. So I'm really senstive to: Bad comfort (clamping force), Bad directional or surround sound, where everything seems everywhere (instead of this shot is from there, the jeep drives there and the river is over there. If it all blends to 'somewhere in the back', it's like my brain is working to hard to pin point the sound) Crisp and clear high's and 'sssss' in sounds But...bad sound annoys me. Giving me a Beats is like swearing in church. So I did my homework and the headphone I seem to need and want, is the AKG K712 Pro, but where I live, it will cost me $231.77. The SHP9500 will cost me $70. Yeah. That's a diffrence of 160 dollars. But I have also taking in to cosideration: The DT990 pro, but the highs and sharp V shape scares me (open world gaming has a lot of sounds in the mids) Sennheiser Game One, not so much in fact, because of the neutral sound, but it's the praised HD 598 with a mic, so hey...for a good price Sennheiser HD 599. More then the above. The 599's are just a bit less neutral and have a bit more 'oempf' then the 598's. These seem to be everything I want, but with everything just a little bit worse then the AKG K712. Still really good though and cheaper. Phjlips Fidelio X2HR . These are really comfy, have a real good soundstage, if they are considaret neutral, they really are up the boundary, because of the bass and they are tested as a real allrounder. So yay!! But where I live, they don't sell them and the old X2 REFRUBISHED cost $177,44. So they have to come overseas and they become real pricey. Also the Audio Technica Ath-Ad700X and the 900X, but to many different opinions and if they win from an AKG, it's alway because of the lower price. I really can't make head or tail of these. Also they have the same headband/clamp as a pair of Superlux I own and I hate this system. So the Audio Technica Ath-Ad?00X doesn't feel safe for me. And here is where it gets weird. I am researching this for more then 2 weeks now, so you can imagine how many vid's, reviews etc I have watched and read and I forgot why I have taken out the AKG K701, 702 and Q whatever out of the equation :( And then there still is massdrop's line-up. They make the Hifiman HE-400i (which I haven't looked up) also affordable for me. But some of the massdrop's have a cable going to EACH earcup and I gladly pay 50 dollars more for the same headphone, with only one cable. Then there are some which don't have the dual cables, but just as the Ath-Ad's, they make it so hard to form a well balanced outcome of comparsions, it will take me another 4 days to line up the massdrop's with the ones mentioned above. But I did just find out the Massdrop's Sennheiser PC37X wins from the Game One, but that aside. The reviews of the massdrop's are almost always positve, but it seems that if a comparison is won, it's because of 'they are almost the same, but it's lower priced'. I can't buy a massdrop on sale however, but I do can buy one of the above on sale. So the 'lower price' criteria, doesn't go that well for me. Only exception here is the SHP900, because they seem to be THAT good for 70 dollar. So anyone out here who can advice and help me? Buy the SHP9500 or a different set of cans?

buy the SHP then use a DAC with an equalizer
@Narfs3 жыл бұрын
@@ramensospicy2992 bought the fidelio x2hr. Got an Amazon prime deal on IT. Shipped from a Neighbour country within the EU, so no taxes, import-, clearance- and shipping cost. Connected it to a pretty basic DAC from creative labs, cause of all the positive reviews i've read and it sounds amazing. The software with the dac, make the dac shine. However, the (low impedant) X2 is thát good, it doesn't need a dac. Only with a few very specific games, it adds something to the expierence.

come on for example AT Ad500X are not expensive they are open and has bass not shit bass that put layer of mud on mids, closed backs got their purpose and cost a lot to sound right I had m50x and compared to my DT770 they just sucks comfort and sound wise, 770 are probably the best choice in that price range

lolotube100 the cost less than the SHPs do now, and they are way better. Or go with the HD 6XX and have the best audio experience under $800 for only $200. Both are on massdrop.

For not much more you can get Sennheiser HD558 and they are better on the top end than the SHP9500. I had to EQ the top end down on the SHP9500 because it can get sibilant on some recordings.

@babagonzaga6 жыл бұрын
A Y you can leave your EQ out the door instead. A decibel or two isn't too bad, but any more than that will ruin the clarity and fidelity of a headphone. With these, you're gonna need more than that to get that bass you want. Not worth it.
@AY-dw4om6 жыл бұрын
no one said to put 20db in first and second octaves, so do not put wards in other people mouth. giving the shp9500 which I gave my daughter as a gift, some 3-5db boost for the first octave - changed the sound signature and made it more correct. it aint Fidelio's quality by no means, but a smart move forward non the less. EQ is used in the professional audio industry it aint a disease, so learn from us. as long as the headphones doesn't get into distortion which means the sound pressure level is still within the driver specs, and you should be good to go.

bro the m50x base is brokenly high. The whole m50 line is just trash. I believe that the last good audio technicas were the m40's. These are better than m50x, not even a competition.

hint. never EVER say you use m-50X and procede to have an opinion about audio related product. Is the same as you would say you use beats, except fewer people will get it. Sure you can say you have M50X and you are happy with it, you know people are happy with their stuff even it is not good, is a healthy mentality, but procede to have opinions about audio products? No.

@@joentell because the M50 are that bad that produce physical pain at 80% volume powered from a phone. I had 40x and 50 x in the store in front of me, Played the songs I usually play at the volume I usually use them at and 40x were fine, 50x made my ears actually hurt. Yah, they leak like a 65 year old Pearson sailboat, but they are super open cans. They fit too loosely for me, and the sound didn't really knock me out as much as I'd hoped. I ended up with other options but they aren't bad at all for the price if you don't mind the leakage and loose, light fit. Also, they aren't for bass-heads that's for sure. I would say, gaming, classical and jazz music, and not for heavy rock.

@soldierboy23506 жыл бұрын
Dude don't be an asshole and learn/check your facts before your comment dumb shit. These headphones were exactly the price he said. The only reason they went up is because they were discontinued. They are so popular and hard to find now so of course the price went up. When they first came out they were $65 brand new and less than $40 for open box and they stayed that way for years. Only recently since they were discontinued and are now non existent/hard to get a hold of it's only natural the price sky rocketed. They are rare.
