You are walking into a comfortable place, with a nice bed, good food, and all other amenities. Nobody is saying that this wasn't enough, but to those that have been there? It is a moot thing to do, seeing as it is the most common thing that radio stations, charity advocates, and even the 'dare to do' sponsored 24 hr 'homeless' adventure can never show the real shitshow it is, as opposed to the real thing (especially NOW in 2019, as opposed to pre 2000 marks.)

I've never been able to get a $3-4 hot and fully prepared meal at a sit-down restaurant, or even my local supermarkets. Homeless people can't carry food with them (it will spoil) and need high amounts of fat and protein in order to keep warm and full until the next meal (which can't always be relied on.) So yeah, fast food (fully prepared hot food) is typically a better deal if you are homeless, poor, or on the run. I appreciate that he followed this in his video.

Yo, Phil, dude... *sigh* I started following you early on, because I really admired that you would interview folks on the margins of society, show empathy, and make them more visible to the mainstream. You still do that, and it's great. But... When you start to become successful and popular, that concept can start to slide into exploitative territory. I'm not accusing you of that, but I hope you'll be mindful of it in the future. I just say that, bc it feels like this video is the first time that format feels kinda thoughtless. You weren't 'homeless for 24 hours'. You were a guy getting recognized and given free food, who didn't sleep at home for one night. Homelessness is hard, scary, lonely, complex, and difficult to escape from. This was a video about you having fun with a new friend, not about you exploring homelessness. I like you a lot, I appreciate most of what you do, I'm still here to see what you create. I just hope you'll be mindful, bc I'd hate to see you turn into some of these other inauthentic numbnuts on KZbin.

@smashino5 жыл бұрын
Constructive criticism right there. "being homeless" and not trying to sleep on the streets is only having a glance at it. You basically just had 24h in town. This is more sleep-deprived than homeless. Will stay for future videos though.
@shawn67455 жыл бұрын
I get what you mean, I think the video would have been more appropriately titled "spending 24 hours WITH the homeless". It was more about getting their thoughts and basic idea of what they go through. I get youtube needs a bit of exaggerating though to get viewers. and he did recognize the fact that he only got food because of his fame.

Yeah, I agree...It isn't so much as a dare even when you are going to get something out of it, especially knowing that in a matter of time? You are going to be back safe in a nice hotel room, and/or home, in a warm room, home with parents. I left home at 16, and the worst part of being on the street is not knowing when, and if, you will ever be where you were to begin with. This has always worked for local 'personalities going all out for that big 24 hrs on the streets. It isn't the same when you do it with a full belly, no withdrawals from drugs, and cameras rolling. Basically a comfortable way of playing 'Dare, Double Dare'. Except, in the end of this video, you get to leave the streets. Not just a reality check on those that live a much more depressing day to day than all of this. Romanticizing poverty only works when you are, in fact, homeless. (Good point man, thought the same.)

Being homeless is a balance between freedom vs comfort. There's a difference between being homeless and and being houseless. Bills, house,car = comfortable but not free. No bills, no house = freedom but not comfortable. Don't let your homeless chapter define you. Take it easy with the drugs knowing that you can make big change in your life. good luck everyone

Doesnt quite display the dehumanisation of being actually homeless, enjoyed this thoroughly though, I have been homeless in a rural area (UK), it sucks chode. Keep up the good work Phillip, I enjoy your whole vibe.

The amount of respect I have for this is nuts. I cant think of a single person who would willingly be homeless for any amount of time, even for raising awareness. Good job man, I'm glad you're ok ^^
