The crazy thing is us Philly fans did this for Ben Simmons. For almost an entire season. Difference is he didn’t care enough to get better and then blamed us lol

Every true Philly fan says Santa deserved it. We aren't really A-Holes. We are just a very passionate fanbase. Trea Turner is back.

Santa was years ago, and he wasn't Santa...he was a drunk idiot dressed up as Santa... I'm so over hearing this.

@@kbbejlmommy THANK YOU! Somehow (probably because everyone wants to keep the narrative against Philly fans going), people don't bring up the reason why they threw the snowballs in the first place. The guy was a random fan picked to play Santa at halftime because he apparently always came to games dressed as Santa for some reason, and the original Santa that was booked for the halftime performance couldn't make it because of the weather. The dude, who, again, was a random drunk fan, essentially made a mockery of the whole "Santa" performance and people started to boo and throw snowballs at him as he threw candy canes back at fans in the stands. The entire story is so stupid and so insignificant, it baffles me that people still talk about it 50+ years later.

To quote Darren Daulton: Philadelphia is Blue Collar town, if you work hard, the fans will support you regardless if you're struggling or not.

In terms of Philly being "soft" with Trea Turner... I (as a Philly fan) would call it "tactical softness" - Turner was stand-up and took ownership of how he was playing, which will always resonate with us, even if the results aren't currently there. We recognized he could use the lift, and so we gave it to him. And now he's responded in kind with great play. Like a kind of symbiosis.

Let me explain Philly for anyone who isn’t from here. We don’t care if you’re the 53rd man, the 15th man off the bench, the last guy in the batting order. If you HUSTLE. We love you. You know why AI is adored ? Because he gave 110% effort every single night. If you give us your all. We’re happy. That’s all we want bro. It’s why everyone was DISGUSTED with the 6ers. They gave us no effort.

To be honest; there’s a time for tough love (boo’s, chirping, and whatnot) and there’s a time for support. Turner was clearly in his own head, just full mental struggle. Where no matter what he tried, or how hard he tried, he just couldn’t shake the 4 month slump. He needed to find a way back to letting himself just have some fun and play the game. It is a game that’s supposed to be fun after all. It seems like he’s starting to get back to that.

Throwing batteries at Santa Claus? The stories get more and more embellished with each passing decade. "Why I remember 80 years ago when they threw car batteries at Santa Claus and the hubcaps at Rudolph like they were Chinese Throwing Stars! That's why Rudolph had to get that bulb implant in his nose".
