Not sure how I missed this one mate, spectacular army. My favourites are the red coated Thessalians, the Prodromoi, and the Hypaspistoi

Really inspiring collection and amazingly painted. Can I ask what painting references you used to for inspiration?

Hi Bear, I was asked this exact same question yesterday. I painted that army over many many years just chipping away at it. At first all I had were books, like the armies of the ancient world from Nigel Stillman, but then other references came out osprey and other sources. But with Pinterest and the Internet you can do a lot more research. I’m not and cannot say it is historically 100% accurate, but it looks good and if I was Alexander this is what I would like my army to look like. 🤣

@@thekrausecollection15mmmin53 Brilliant! Thanks for the reply and I like that you’ve taking some artistic license. I’ve been looking at osprey myself and think I’ll pick up some of the books. Thanks again.

Do Xyston have poses that allow the Phalanx to point the spears forward and to a 45 degree angle ?

@@BearGrisham I think they do bear, but there are new figures that I think are unbelievably beautiful, take a look at the new museum miniatures. The new ones the Z form I think they’re called. The other one that really is the easiest to paint and really look nice on the table are from forged in battle. If I was to do it all over again, I would probably use forged in battle. But I’m not sure if they have spears at a 45° angle I don’t think so. But I think museum does

i dont think i really looked at this video in depth but man your phalangites look awesome you made them all so colorful. what books did you use as a references for the shield designs
@thekrausecollection15mmmin53
@thekrausecollection15mmmin53 2 жыл бұрын
I used various books in my collection and pictures from Pinterest. I think coming up with just general geometric Greek designs are all fine. There is a certain book to a Greek shield that’s different than a Persian shield or a spartan shield or some other type of thing. And in some cases are used my own imagination. It’s really what makes you feel good and what’s attractive to you

I remember that i used the phil barker books But if you look at the professional shield decals sold today, warlord games, victrix, gripping beast, little big men for example, they did a lot of research. I used many of those and just free hand painted them

did you base the figures for eny particular game set rules?
@thekrausecollection15mmmin53
@thekrausecollection15mmmin53 Ай бұрын
@@petros311 no I use this basin because it fits with just about every set of rules. I just get creative on the casualty markers, etc. but it works for what I play with which is about three different sets.

I play hail Caesar and Hannibal for most armies up to pike and shot. Then it gets a bit complicated. I like multiple rule sets. I make the basing work with casualty dials etc.

What rule set do you base for?
@thekrausecollection15mmmin53
@thekrausecollection15mmmin53 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul There seems to be a convention about basing starting ways back in the day. Probably WRG that the frontage of a base was 40mm. Then you had all of these different depths. 20mm, 30mm and 40mm. Units were often 4 stands etc. I just decided that I would base everything on 80mm frontages and 40mm depth for infantry and 60mm for cavalry. It seems to fit all rules and works well. Impetus kinda started it with this system. Personally I play Hail Caesar and a few older throw back rules. Armati etc.

@@thekrausecollection15mmmin53 i have a good number of Xyston ancients to do myself, did a snall athenisn contingent and as much as I enjoy DBA, the basing doesn't really lend itself to the dsplay of to the strongest and impetus basing. Hi Paul I’m going to be doing a Pyrric video maybe today. Yes the impetus basing is brilliant. It works super well with to the strongest. Basing is just a representation of what you want to show. The pike block can be bigger but use it has little dioramas. My light troops I put 4-6 to a stand…. Make it fun! Is there any army I could video for you in the next weeks?
