Thanks Phil for all you do. I ever watch the livestream, I watch it afterwards using the time stamps to here about a certain subject. I've been watching you since 2018 or 2019 both the Friday chats & other videos. I've learned a lot & having budget guitars I've bought guitar tools to fix issues when they occur & with the WIDE temperature range in Canada they occur pretty often. I'll continue to watch, just wanted to say thank you.

30:42 I struggled with setups from several guys in my area on my Electric axes. I finally had somebody set it up for me the way I like and I asked if I could write down the neck relief and action on each E string. Ever since then I am capable of using feeler gauges and measuring a bridge. After that, anything else goes wrong I send it out. Just a heads up I play Gypsy/Django guitars and they have a a lot of relief and what is considered hight action so I wasn't looking for a low setting.
@karatekid951
@karatekid951 9 ай бұрын
I know what you mean about what you want. You want more relief so the notes/chors don't get choked out. A gypsy style of guitar requires higher action. It's about each note having a pronounced voice when picked individually. A lot of low setups are good for speed and distorted chords, but for them to ring out, you do want more relief than most like.

Phil thanks mate for acoustic question. Yep I have a Cole Clark from original factory before burnt down. Love it plays great CCR and great with another acoustic around a friend’s family fire / Bbq. But keep the hard case close. Little bees wax polished into back neck. Make it beautiful play feel. My old school rock and blues. I’ve played the Maton messiah which as slash in add. Seen him play some acoustic in interview in Australia no guitar with him, he was given Maton messiah to play. He even stopped looking it over. Said on air wow I really like the tone of this guitar never played brand before. But think I’ll be speaking to someone about getting one for myself. Even with the ebony fretboard. He was really impressed. Not found Taylor only small one to try and Martin. Yet picking tone and feel to fit blues and old school rock. 52 and Australian army veterans pensioner. Similar music taste with you. Stay strong to yourself and family. 🫡🪖🇦🇺

Your comment about learning the Bossa Nova on the bass was important. I have read many times about “training to failure”. When making a mistake over and over while trying to learn something, you are in danger of programming your brain to anticipate and then execute the mistake permanently. The “rule”’is to attempt it 3 times, and if you make the mistake all 3 times, move on to something else. Your brain will not imprint the mistake this way. The next day, revisit the section that is giving you trouble, making sure to follow the 3x rule. Eventually (hopefully) you’ll learn the section correctly.

You are right about some cheap guitars slip through as very good. I was at a store that was having a sale on Takamine Acoustics. I was able to play four that were all the same entry level model. Three of them were ok for the price point. One of them made me regret what I paid for my Taylor 310 and I love that guitar. That low cost Takamine was excellent in every way. We still need real shops where you can really choose your guitar in person.

Sometimes we don't wart to take Studio Queens to a rowdy gig, when a $500 instrument can do a good job. Sure, no exotic woods, no exotic shapes, no exotic finishes, and maybe we need a tune up a few times more during the gig, but they play and sound just fine. I own a Kiesel $2k Bass, I currently gig an old affinity PB with DR flats.

My Iceman has high frets so it requires a certain touch, but it’s not tricky for me But it’s why I learned to do at least a basic setup Others set it up for different frets and it doesn’t work for me, but the way I like it set up, it plays great And then you address fret stuff I have had one level & crown done on the Iceman (due it being used in my absence for slide with a plumber’s wrench-argh!) But they set it properly because they knew it had high frets I can confirm that it will still feel pretty close

Phil, I disagree with the SLASH explanation, he’s getting on in age, touring not as much. Unless he opens for Swift, or plays back up the money may dry up. Marshall is run now by a group of venture capitalists. What ever contract Slash had, was reworked with an out option. Slash said show me the money…Marshall showed him the door. His endorsement is not required in Marshall’s view.

I have a guitar with the fret problem. Filing did little to help. The gap was too small for me to see but I could feel it. In the end I used a speck of Suoerglue to fill the gap. It might not be perfect for everyone but it wouldn't be any better for me if fixed properly.

Flat frets are AMAZING!!! Not sure why everyone loves big frets. All we need is some sort of tactile sense of where a fret is for our finger and enough height for the string to get 'caught' on. anything beyond that is unnecessary.

Sent a replacement right away! But the tone pros locking studs are so much better solid brass retaining the look of the original studs but still allowing it to lock in place however i literally for the life of me could not find one that would fit diameter wise! So hello drill press caliper and fine fret level file time to make 7mm turn into 6.5mm 😂 it worked perfectly looks great factory even!moral work smart not hard 😊

Used gear prices are unrealistic, but what will tell the tale down the road as far as a market price correction is concerned, will be whether those new covid guitarists were selling because they wanted to upgrade or because they lost interest and quit. It's quite a paradox. Never before has there been more, better quality, affordable gear available---in spades, while at the same time existing in an era when less guitar based music is being produced for public consumption.

Positive grid is poor on customer support for the spark they are non existent for the Bias amp, you have to the back door on the web site to find a manual like they are ashamed of the amp and don't want to admit they built it and they run well over a thousand bucks when I bought mine and why I have sense sold it and gone to Axe-Fx.

On cheap guitar videos, the quality in what you're calling cheap is beginning to surpass that of high end guitars... that's a massive draw amongst the curious. But it's also a draw for the normal everyday guitarist who knows their gear needs to be affordable but also able to withstand the daily rigors.

It's crazy for him to leave Marshall but its one of two things. Either he's running a cleaner Magnatone with his Marshalls which is what Fortus does with his Supros and sounds great or Magnatone made a copy of his Marshall and paid him more money. Many pros run two different style amps at the same time. Even I run a Supro and a Marshall at the same time. It sounds awesome. Too bad Supro didn't do the Fortus Marshall style amp. Especially if it was reasonably priced.

A few artists of sufficient stature can be with more than one company at a time. He5field and Hammet have Gibson and ESP, Abasi did a sig with EBMM despite owning his own company. Maybe Slash is doing this with Marshall and Magnatone. Hard to see a small company offering enough cash to fully replace Marshall.

There’s only one place Slash should go to amp wise: Friedman. 😉 I play bass. Once had a gig on a festival where my beautiful 300 watt tube USA’s finest bass amp (I will not mention the brand) broke down on me for the last time! It always did! It was like Amp Ache every other gig, people! (Wished I kept my Marshall VB-400!) A guitarist from another band came to the rescue with his Friedman 100 watt guitar head. He just said: ‘Use this; she’ll do...’ And she did. Big time! And this guitarist standing there laughing. He knew just what this amp could do: like an old Marshall Super Bass. Creamy! When I ever win the lottery, I get myself a Friedman! Two, if I can. 50 watts will do. 😉 Slash going to Friedman would be the most sane thing to do. All Marshall fans will get it in an instant. Magnatone is a cool and nice brand. But everybody needs our old Slash on the very best Marshalls there is: Friedman. And, having his pedalboards and signalchain sorted out at the same time? Simple stuff: Friedman. He loves Marshalls so much, he’ll take care of their heritage, and than some. Wish he would love bass just a little bit more too, 🤣. That would kill most if not all the competition. But, I get it, he’s a busy humanoïd... 🖖

Slash signing with Magnatone is a bit of a Moot point. All of Slash’s classic music was made with old Marshall’s unlike todays product. Recently in G’n’R and solo Slash’s music is forgettable at best (and live quite sloppy). Will some people buy a Magnatone because Slash recommends them? Yes, but I doubt he’ll be a game changer like PRS had with John Mayer’s Silver Sky because Slash really isn’t relevant to kids starting to play guitar now. The question is if it really makes a difference to Marshall’s business other than saving money paying Slash to endorse them.
