My father was United States Air Force. My family was stationed at Clark Air Force Base for 4 years. I was a young teen and it was the most incredible time of my life! I still have fond memories which I will have forever! I just stumbled across your videos. I was trying to explain the Barn Homes to my husband and saw your incredible video of the Barn Homes today. I remembered the marching field. I used to cross it daily on my way to the Teen Center. I remember wishing the family would be assigned to one of the Barn homes but we were assigned to one of the Box Homes. Do you remember the Box homes? I lived in walking distance to Wagner High School. Before getting housing on Clark AFB , we lived off the military base outside of Balabago. A compound named Villa Angela. I remember going through Balabago to get to school and back home. It was crazy!!! Immersed in culture. The best education and just a part of my daily life. I'm so grateful to have had this incredible experience living in the Philippines. I am so happy to see your videos! You have taken me back to a time of my life that was so curious, adventurous and happy. THANK YOU!!!

Tripple excellent. Really I joyed Essington the history. We all need to remember this. I fist came to AC 1990. Where I met my now wife of 31 years. She was evacuated to Manila when the eruption accoured. I decided to stay on and live in Angeles City on the bases that the air field would open again one day and volcano shouldn't erupt for another 100 years. Still living the same house Mabalacat 31 years on. Gary Hallard Australian. Retired.

Great pictures of Clark! My dad was a crewmember on a B17 of the 19th bomb wing arriving in late November or early December 1941. Their flight originated from somewhere in California stopping in Hawaii for refueling and then onward to Clark Field without any armaments to save weight. They were supposed to be armed with .50 cal. machine guns and bombs, and other supplies carried aboard US Navy ships, but then December 7th changed the world. The B17s were used to ferry women and children to Australia for several months. Dad spoke very little of that time. He told me they were ordered to fight on the ground until the last plane got off then surrender to the Japanese forces. He spent 39 months as a POW and then was a career Air Force man flying in and out of Clark as a flight engineer/navigator. Clark and the Philippine people meant very much to him.

Thanks Brian! Brought back memories! I was a cop there from 85 to 91. Had to work in the aftermath of the eruption until I got out of there in October. Actually recognized 2 people in the photos. Miss that base a lot!! The latter part of the slides was my Era. Bars were familiar and most had that San Miguel mug sign outside them. Good times!! I believe that Third Eye is the bar you filmed on perimeter with the set of stairs that is ruins now, I believe you asked us on the video if anyone knew what it was. Take care!

Wow, great video and it has been worth the wait. A guy I was stationed with in Korea was there when the volcano went up and told some stories about it. As a firefighter he was one of the last out. He said they were all hunkered down in the fire house with the vulcinoligists and the CG when a bolder landed on a building next door destroying it and that is when the general said time to go. That said while I was stationed in Korea I had heard stories of the Philippines as adult Disneyland so rather than taking my midtour back to the states I took a flight to the Philippines and worked my way to Anglese City. It was a drunken leave with so many women lol. That was in 1990 well before the eruption. (But I had many eruptions lol.) I regret spending all my time chasing women and not going out to see the country. One day I want to go there just to tour around and see the sights.

Brian, thank you very much for spending the time putting this all together. The soundtrack was a superb match for the story told by the images. The last part, showing Mount Pinatubo erupting, brought tears to my eyes. We were among those families evacuated from Clark just after my graduation from middle school. We left with only as much as we could carry, but felt fortunate that we were provided safe passage. I still picture the tears in the eyes of our house girl and cook who were left there to suffer Lord knows what fate after the volcano and then the rains.

We were there from 68 to 70. I was just a kid. Mom and us boys had to return to the states as Dad was being sent to Uban Thailand. Boy the second half of this brought back so many wonderful memories. I can't recall anything bad about living there except the occasional earthquake and typhoon season. I'm in my 60s now and Dad has been gone for a few years now and I miss him. Mom is still with us. Dad was an ATC and retired in 77 SMSGT. at Scott AFB. Dad was a 2 tour Army veteran of the Korean war and reenlisted in the military, this time Air Force right after i was born. He did two non combat tours during Nam for a total of 4 years during the war. He proudly displayed the CIB on his Air Force uniform even though it was an Army medal. I mias the Philippines but sadly I doubt I'll ever get a chance to return and revisit a portion of that part of my childhood.

My first visit to Clark AB was in 1986 when I transferred from my first ship to fly back to the states. I flew back the next year to wait at Subic for my second ship which was deployed. I remember Angeles being much different back then. The ship’s brow photo appears to be the USS Abraham Lincoln which participated in Operation Fiery Vigil. I would serve on that ship three years later. Thanks for the video and the views of the city I call home now.
