Isn’t she laughing because she realized “have a stroke” could also mean “give it a stroke” She starts to answer seriously, and breaks up when she catches the double meaning

Great contrast and interplay. I remember as a child learning language making the same naive assumptions Philomena makes, such as the Sewers Canal.

Yup. They were right! Hearing too much of PC makes it stale. And... makes it "thin". Can almost see through it. Still, respect for Diane. Even when the going gets tough, she stays in character, almost flawlessly. And.... great respect for this leearned lady! She's the perfect (undisturbed, just a bit puzzled at most) counterbalance for PC. Hats off to you, professor.
