Jamel! You absolutely made our day! 2 longtime Phish and Dead fans in this house... my husband was at this show! It is beyond joyous to watch you listen so carefully and with such an open mind and then have reactions that we relate to so completely! Makes us remember the first time we ever heard this song in 1993 :) We sincerely hope we can dance with you at the next Phish or Dead show on the West Coast, next time it's safe to gather. Much love and thanks for being an amazing human being. Great choice by the way!! (Also, to explain the lyrics... this song is part of Trey's college thesis, a fairy tale suite of songs called Gamehendge. Just look up Gamehendge and you'll be good!) Thanks again my friend! P.S. We DIED laughing when you made the Knight Rider comparison, you are TOTALLY right on and we never made that connection in 25+ years :D

I’m so happy you went from GD to Phish. I was always a stubborn dead head but after watching a few live phish shows (I was too young to attend a lot) and watching the live stream Fare Thee well I was smitten. Trey actually plays with the Grateful Dead and he is sooooo amazingly talented. The love for the fans is unmatched I think that is what it boils down to for me. Much love!

This was quite likely my favorite reaction yet. So glad you chose this track. For those of us that have enjoyed this band for decades, it's a special moment to get to watch your friends hear this music, and absorb these songs, for the first time. Here’s a link to the Gamehenge story (Trey’s thesis). It’s kind of a fairytale musical. Maybe a rock opera? kzbin.info/www/bejne/aZDdp5qgaMhjbZY It will help you understand what the heck is going on with the lyrics to many songs. As far as which shows to watch, you can’t go wrong with anything from 12/31/95, the Clifford Ball (1996), the cowfunk of Fall 1997 (aka Phish Destroys America), or The Island Tour (1998). Their absolute peak years were 1993-1998. Phish 1.0 is what you want! They are good now but 1.0 is straight face melting fire.

PYITE is easily one of my favorite Phish tune. Love the salsa bit and Santana nod. I believe the salsa portion of the song is actually a separate tune called The Landlady. Such a great tune. Lots going on. Trey's rapid-fire lyrics is very much like rap. So cool.

Bro - I am a hands-down metal head. I love brutal music. But Phish is my guilty pleasure. They are so much fun to listen to and Trey has the sickest guitar tone. I got bit by them in 2002 and fell so hard, I took a drive with some friends from Houston to Denver in 2003 to watch them play. It was the closest they were coming. Love your videos, sir!
@lordabacu2 жыл бұрын
Yo, the Santana connection is legit, Phish toured with them and Trey has been open about Carlos' influence. I never thought about Bone Thugs, but it totally makes sense with those songs where Trey sings fast but melodically. Beautiful!

Thank you for doing some “old” Phish. I’m glad they’re still touring and I’m super happy that Trey is sober, but to my ears (and a lot of others), Phish was easily at their peak in the mid to late 90s. Trey in particular was on a different level back in those days.
@metheus1082 жыл бұрын
I know I saw most of my Phish shows back when they were mostly a New England/Northeast tour band, maybe late 93 to the 2nd Limestone show (Lemonwheel) and feel like their early-mid 90s stuff was their most creative. They had vacuum solos and playing along with the bouncing ball and barbershop moments. The chess game was a cool tour (almost lost myself in that Maze but they pulled it back) but around the second Limestone show I started feeling like the scene was an excuse for a party and not really about the band or the music so much as before.
