@@krabman2889 The books, as he stated, were usually to either: Expand on something in the game in terms of the mechanics/rules/setting (eg how the Springlocks work in better detail, literally most of Remnant, William and Charlie's names, confirming "the dead do forget", etc) And introduce ideas and event parallels that'll be featured in the game (eg "5 become one", Afton Amalgam hinting towards Ruin and Ennard, Illusion Discs, etc) It's one thing to have lore, the games tend to be pretty damn lore-packed already... It's another to LITERALLY become the launch version of Post-Shift 2 in the sheer amount of reading/derailing. Optional content? He's ALREADY doing that my brother in christ. Have you even looked at his games even once? FNAF 3? Sister Location?

The one kindness I shall give to the phone guy theory is that the name William Aston was not revealed until the first book. And even with that the name isn’t said in the games until sister location

The only Issue I had with that theory is that it involved alternate timelines to explain how William and Phone Guy died on the same day, even though the animatronics wound up destroyed and un-haunted after William bit it. The idea being that the ghosts in the events of FNAF 1 decided not to move on after their killer died because they actually really enjoy murdering the living.
