Removing footprints and other distractions in sand can be quite difficult, as sand has inherent underlying texture than can be easily destroyed by steps in the sand.
In order to remove footprints, you have to build the sand back in a way that makes it look like it has never been stepped on.
Learn how to use additional assets like stock photos to rebuild sand and make it appear as though it has the original sand texture.

It was a joy seeing your active thought in problem solving and your solution is really simple for such a complex challenge. Even from other videos, I’ve always loved your use of the brush tool when I would have reached for a clone or healing brush. The pacing and advanced nature of this video were fantastic, I hope to see more like this in the future! Sorry if you mentioned this in the video, but what are your thoughts on using a displacement map for the shadow edge? I guess the mask is less destructive, but more time intensive.

Brilliant! What I find so impressive is not just your extraordinary artistic skill but your ability to come up with a solution to such a complex problem. I don’t think I could have imagined those steps let alone executed them to such a high standard!

You are genius! I needed a way to smooth sand on a landscape photo from Hawaii and this may be my solution!!! Thank you so much. I trued frequency separation but the smooth area was so small that it didn't look so good.

Hi Aaron!! Ok, please excuse me a second while I scoop my jaw off the ground, it hit hard when it dropped. WOW...this was so educational...I"m bookmarking this technique for other projects I may come across. I"m currently working with Affinity Photo, so I'll maybe try this using that tool and see what the differences are in controls, etc. As usual, a big fan and enjoying seeing you post again on YT!! I'd like to suggest again, you bring in a color film negative from a high resolution scan (scanner or digital camera scan) and use PS to invert and correct it. maybe do 2 of these one with a new negative and one with an old one where you also have to do a bit of repair on it. You’re still my favourite guy to go to if I need a tutorial, this was awesome! Love that you’re the ‘Navigator’ as well, seems very appropriate. If I may be so bold to make a suggestion: I would place the camera on the other side of you, so from the viewers perspective, it looks like you’re looking at your canvas, while now it seems you’re looking away from it. It’s a small thing, but I think it looks more logical. Edit: come to realise, this would probably be difficult to do without having problems with the background, or without creating an uncomfortable work position.

Awesome videotutorial as always ! I follow you since so many years ! You taught me so much on Photoshop. Just a small remark: It could be nice to make the videos now in hires (4k ore more) to help seeing the techniques. I have still a full HD monitor but I gain more details when seeing KZbin videos in 1440 and downsampling them in full HD.

Aaron, may I suggest filming yourself looking in the other direction instead? Just move your laptop or monitor to the right. It's weird having your face look to the right away from the area where your actual instructions are being displayed (the image).

I am wondering why you didn't try Content-Aware Fill, the advanced layout where you can choose which parts of the image the program samples from - ie, you paint green the parts you allow it to sample from.

When I'm editing studio work sometimes full body shots will have feet or hands where the light falloff (and just existing skin tone) make for odd and hard to manage colours. Do you have any pointers on getting a natural colour with hands and feet so they match the rest of the body?
