Thank you! I never understood why people never used their semi permanent colors to make a semi permanent brown, when temporarily going brown! I used to mix a little vibrant purple in with my extreme orange/vibrant red mix to make a more coppery color, before Overtone released their Copper.

You’re literally, the best hair dye channel on the internet. Thank you so much for posting this, I’ve now know how to make a golden blonde temporary color using girl’s night and cosmic sunshine. I was trying to figure out color theory before I found this lol

Wish this was out a year ago when I needed I wanted to temporarily dye my hair brown for a few months in between dying it purple. (Can't have "unnatural" purple hair at my job so I dyed purple during my summer break and winter break). Ended up mixing purple rain, wrath, and Trasylvania to make a dark red color then later used just Transylvania

Oh wow I was actually wanting to try dying my hair a brown and thinking “wait... can I just make brown dye instead of buying some?” 😹 So this video is really helpful! I think the first strand turned out the best in this part since the rest became green on camera (excluding the 3rd which was more like a warm blonde), despite all the swatches looking brown initially 💩

How will they fade ?

I have hair that I tried to strip black dye out of, and then put a semi permanent brown over it to hide the patchiness while it grows out. I'm going to try the first swatch as a way of keeping the brown fresh and not muddy looking, without having to re-dye it with a developer dye and continue to fry my hair!

I also love mossy greens :) If you wanna get technical, the primary colors are magenta, yellow, and cyan (like printer ink!) But red yellow and blue are close enough that art history has left us with that slight inaccuracy. In theory, perfectly opposite pigments create grey when mixed. But usually two given colors won't cancel each other out completely so you get brown. I'm looking forward to seeing the other mixes in this series :) if you have any magenta dyes, you might be able to get pretty close to grey by mixing with the right green (I accidentally made a concrete gray drink with matcha and berry once lol) or mix with yellow to get red! Anyway I really appreciate your channel I always like seeing how the colors turn out :) this one just made me rly excited cos I love color theory haha

I know there's been a lot of arguments between communities of which theory is more correct LOL but that's a good point, maybe I'll do the same series but with grey! I love color theory too, it's so fun :-) Thanks for being here

@@PhloxiesDyestuff oh the art community drama of it all lol :p I like CMY bc it works better for me painting and it makes sense to me that it corresponds with the 3 color-sensing cones in our eyes, RBG. But!! Of course you can use whatever primaries you like to, that's the fun of it. I really like the technique of using 6- a cool and a warm version each of red yellow and blue. A greys series would be cool, I know people talk about blue vs purple shampoo a lot 🤔 You might get the bleach & tone gang over here with that one!

@@PhloxiesDyestuff I have found that while the RYB is good for making color schemes, the MYC wheel predicts dye combinations a lot more accurately.

This video was so helpful because I was wondering if you could get brown from mixing purple and yellow AND if you could get a purplish mauve from mixing them because I noticed (from your other videos!) that purple on darker blonde hair pulled a little mauve. I wound up trying it after watching this video and got a really pretty purplish mauve color with Manic Panic Purple Haze, Arctic Fox Cosmic Sunshine, and white conditioner. I don't have ratios, but my mix was probably at least 2/3 conditioner and it still wasn't pastel. My hair is lifted to a very light blonde though. I initially thought I used twice as much yellow as purple, but when I tried that again, it was much browner, so I probably used closer to equal parts. I originally put it over pastel pink that was slightly darker in some spots, and those darker spots added a nice richness to the "mauve." For anyone wondering about fading, it looks to me like the yellow is gone and just purple is left, which I was expecting (I've also used purple shampoo on it sometimes, although usually just on my roots where the color washes out faster).

Pretty cool to see them mixed. I was looking into Manic Panic's Cobra, but it looks like it's only available online and I wanted to get it from a local store. The purple rain and cosmic sunshine you mixed created a nice brown. Now I'm wondering if I should try for an Auburn. Thank you for sharing the demo.

I just dyed my hair purple , can I put cosmic sunshine over it to make it brown!??!

Did you try it?
@laurakavinski98112 жыл бұрын
Yes! I panicked after dying my hair purple rain and immediately grabbed cosmic sunshine to fix it. That started my journey into mixing my own brown. Now I do it regularly. I also mix up in bigger batches I can store and quickly use. I’m quite happy to find this video as I was trying to decide if trying girls nights and neon moon would give me a good mix. Nope! But I have been able to take purple rain down close to the level of girls night using diluter which will save $ in the long run. Thanks so much! Awesome channel!

Maybe some of these swatches turned out greenish because of blue pigments in the purple dye sticking better than reddish ones? I recently tried out a mix that looked very dark but barely stuck to my hair at all. Weird how that happens, huh?
@PhloxiesDyestuff3 жыл бұрын
It's possible! Neon Moon already leans a little green so the reddish tones in Girl's Night might not have been enough to turn it or like you said, just didn't really take. Yeah same thing happened to me! Hair can be funky sometimes (and a little frustrating) but in the end it can be fun to learn what works and what doesn't... especially if you take the approach of it all being an experiment 👩🔬
@officert51473 жыл бұрын
@@PhloxiesDyestuff oh yeah good point! Crazy how some dyes look equally bright in the bottle but one could be way more pigmented than another or have a different undertone. Sometimes frustrating I agree, but also fun, especially when you make it science by recording your results 🤓 One day when I'm not broke I'll be right there with you in experiment town! Anyway thanks for doing these, they're fum but also it must be a lot of work 💪 🌼

I tried it and my hair ended up green Idek how lol, then I tried to correct it with some red and I got a deep auburn tone that wasn't really bad, but after 2 washes it became a very dark purple so, try at your own risk cause the results may vary from hair to hair. I did it fully aware that it might turn out bad or not like I expected. What I can admit is that my hair wasn't exactly yellow or just bleached, it was a very very very light lilac before I started. Maybe that played a part on it? It was very light tho, so I'm not sure. At least I tried! ✌️
