@@vannakr25 Nah…it’s more than what we know. French colonisation led to Vietnam war then led to Cambodian civil war ruled by the Khmer Rouge and the Khmer Rouge were aided by the Viet-Cong and communist of china led by chairman Mao. It involved inside jobs within the politics that our government not wanting to reveal. It all started with these big powerful countries wanting to take control over small powerless countries that caused the chaos in the aftermath and they just left if things don’t go their way and let the country to deal with the chaos.

@@minhana1447 Well…it really depends on perspective and how u look at things. Of course it’s still apart of the king fault as a country ruler but that’s not entirely how the Khmer Rouge came to power. U have to look deeper into history and be critical. The US bombed over 5millions tones of bombs in Cambodia and killed over 100000 innocent Cambodians to the country they didn’t even have war with just to scared off the viet-cong because they were losing in combat due to the viet-cong outsmarted them in the jungle using all types of traps and tricks. The US bombing campaign split Cambodian people into two of either taking side with the viet-cong and don’t let the US keeping bombing ur country or take the US side to fight off the viet-cong and Khmer Rouge. Then Lon Nol the prime minister at the time took side with the US to get rid of all the Vietnamese in the country while the king took side with the viet-cong and Khmer Rouge to stop the US from bombing the country. And it’s not about minding ur own business or getting involved when other countries not minding theirs and tried to take over/bombing ur country for no reason. After the Vietnam war was over, the US just withdrew their troops without giving a dam about Cambodia. Eventho the US chef in command who was in charge the bombing campaign that convinced President Nixon to allow the bombing in Cambodia got listed as a war criminal and pledged guilty but the damage were already done and over 2millions people were killed during the Khmer Rouge regime. In conclusion, the Vietnam started the Khmer Rouge with the US unintended helps but most of Cambodian people don’t know that. They just think it’s the king fault, Lon Nol is a traitor and Vietnam saved us. And the schools in Cambodia don’t even teach u anything about history. I learned all this from books documentaries researches and lectures during my 8yrs study in Australia university and I even did a 45min presentation about Khmer Rouge. There are so much more I could talk about Khmer Rouge. Not taking side or bragging or anyway but I just hope Cambodian people would take a deeper look into history and find out more about the cause instead of following what everyone else think or say.

@@channy8000 and who let the vietcong use Khmer border? The king himself said he did that intended to help Vietnam came into one again “but he made the wrong decision and regretted helping them”. You can’t really blame Lon Nol for taking over and trying to chase the vietcong away as you already know khmer lost a big junk of land due to letting them borrow the land and never left or giving us back khmer krom we don’t wanna repeat history. The king is also side with the Khmer Rouge. I’m not disagree with your statement since I already know those inside conflict but i still stand with my point the king play a big part in it.

Few months later 90% of the people in the footage would be forced to leave the city walk for dozens of kilometers move to the countryside and make rice there day and night.

True. Heartbreaking what the evil communists did. Still to this day the war against communism continues all around the world as it takes on more subversive forms and sneaks into the free world. Always be vigilant. History doesn't repeat itself but it does rhyme.

Most of these city people did not survive sadly, they killed many generations dating from the Angkor era.
my dad was born in a poor family in a rural area in 1979 but was born after the khmer rouge and then a few years later, tigers attacked his home and one of his brothers were killed by a tiger and my dad literally said that he PUNCHED A TIGER and got its teeth out and it ran away. My dad has its tooth in his car and also in 2004 (i think) he moved to australia. but its because he lived in a temple at a young age in cambodia and they convinced him to go to australia where its more safer and they gave him money and everything he needs to immigrate to australia.
No, because Phnom Penh was evacuated after the city fell during April 1975.

Phnom Penh fell on 17 April 1975. The city would have been completely surrounded though when this was filmed.
