Nice. I gonna be numb from the news of Sinèad's passing, but I'm glad to see her influence in the current generation of strong female musicians.

Beautiful rendition. Sinead is a deeply caring and empathetic person. It's in the Irish DNA to fight for noble causes.

Really nice to see Phoebe covered this, with gentle grace (Sinead is untouchable), I always heard the influence, but didn't know till just now she had covered this. RIP to the great Sinead O'Connor, up there with her own hero, Bob Marley, a rare league she dwells in with him

RIP Colin Roache, this song is over thirty years old, and nothing has changed, government's everywhere continue to kill minorities, with little or no accountability, this world is going to destroy itself because it has no moral conscience

Phoebe most definitely has the Midas touch with every cover! She smoothed out the strident tone of the original.
@samniacat3 жыл бұрын
It was supposed to sound strident. Sinead has a Black child.
@toughsoft3213 жыл бұрын
Sinead doesn't have a black child according to her bio.
@ktothebbc3 жыл бұрын
Agree that the strident tone of the original was the point! Phoebe’s cover is solid, and I give her full marks for bringing it to a new audience, but I think even she’d agree that Sinead’s is the definitive version.
@kelleyhestir46133 жыл бұрын
She just killed any passion inherent in Sinead’s song. Singing on key is a low bar and that’s all Phoebe has. Boring, zero dynamics, just yuck.
@toughsoft3213 жыл бұрын
I am glad we have different opinions. I prefer covers that bring a different take. What's the value of a duplicate? I think Phoebe's rendition is quite soulful. Btw, I think the original is amazing which is not always the case. 😊

love this cover. anyone know what chords those are?
@gavinmcisaac51064 жыл бұрын
i believe phoebe's guitar is usually tuned to open A, but pretty sure the original chords are just D, A, G with a capo on the fourth fret
@hotwidow4 жыл бұрын
ah i suspected it might have been a tuning thing! thanks so much :)
@tomsucksatpiano3 жыл бұрын
phoebe uses a baritone guitar tuned to open A, if you wanna aproximate it with a regular guitar, you should tune to DADF#AD, as those are the same intervals as the open A tuning she uses, just up a 4th. so it's kind of like you have phoebe's guitar with a capo on the 5th fret the chord voicings in that tuning are very flexible and revolve around letting the higher strings ring out as chord extensions/drones, so for example your diatonic chords would be: I = 000000 ii = 22x100 or 222000 or 222100 iii = 33x200 etc IV = 550500 or 555000 or even something like 555555 if you want that sound for some reason V = 770700 etc etc very simple for making pretty chords with, hope this helps someone!! edit: i should mention the open strings of this tuning literally just make a big major chord, which makes it very easy to play in that key, but very impractical to play in any other key. like how in standard tuning it's easier to play in certain keys than others, this is exactly like that but exaggerated!

voice and guitar are excellent, but the sound quality of the recording is terrible - is it the microphone? sounds very tinny and almost distorted, not warm at all :( too bad, I bet this could be fantastic

I'm not sure she'd have kicked the ass of someone who was respectfully covering her music. it's not a competition.
@kelleyhestir46133 жыл бұрын
Good, like any high schooler with a voice. Flat affect, boring, zero dynamic delivery. Fans, I dare anyone who disagrees, listen to and watch Sinead o’Conner before you commit. This person is a complete amateur on this cover and will never be as good as Sinead who did Mandika at 19 years old. Standards have fallen.
@JRBobPrepster3 жыл бұрын
Why such a hater? Jeez, if everyone ascribed to your attitude, this would be a bleak, nasty existence. She took a stab at a song by one of the greatest vocal talents of the past 40 years. The song here is the gem. One can appreciate and laud Sinead for the talent she has and not denigrate those who obviously appreciate her enough to play her music.

It's okay. Sinead's has way more feeling. And that is the way with a lot of Phoebe's covers. Prine and Tom Waits covers she does are just okay. I was a fan of hers early on but she became boring. Even when she smashed her guitar on SNL, seemed premeditated and awkward. And also boring.
