My folks survived this era. It was crazy to hear daily bomb attacks in the news or them telling us how lucky they were not to be near a place of incident. It's quite saddening to see such beautiful country plagued by war. We are al very resilient here.

The Team House podcast did a great interview with Peter McAleese (The big guy at 0:52) about this operation. A bunch of veteran mercs trained in secret for months on a assassination raid on Escobar's compound and it probably would have succeeded if not for an inexperienced helicopter pilot who flew through fog into a mountain.
@TheGoodChap
@TheGoodChap 2 жыл бұрын
Idk if you've heard of the bayou of pigs, there was a soldier if fortune from Texas and white nationalist from Canada who plotted to hire more mercs and overthrow the tiny island of dominica to reinstate the former president who they recruited with the intent of getting sole monopoly access to industry and tourism they were going to construct plus a bunch of money up front. It legit most certainly would have worked except instead of buying a boat they payed a guy to take them there under a flimsy cover story and they dude was extremely suspicious thinking they were with drug cartels so he informed to the FBI and got them all arrested at the pier with all the guns. Classic attempted filibuster in the modern era

"A few good men," well one should remember they had the Cali Cartel/Paramilitaries/CNP/Search Bloc/CIA & DEA all after him for years... and he won the first time around via securing a deal for La Catedral 👀 A whole lot of these 'brave Colombians' simply worked for the Cali Cartel or the Castanos Brothers *paramilitary traffickers* instead as well, not all of them did of course *especially the Search Bloc* ; but you still had countless police/soldiers/politicians/government officials even simple Taxi drivers, helping take Pablo down only to *often unknowingly* usher in a new era of trafficking and the violence that came with it-including the bloody fued between Cali & North Valley, and eventually the North Valley/AUC vs Communist FARC insurgents in the early 2000's. North Valley was pretty much just as violent & bloody as Medellín too, chainsawing their victims alive, car bombs, the whole shebang.

@@asherif3893 Yeah, but a huge issue in Colombia at that time was extradition to the US for prisoners, something Escobar and the Cartel we're vehemently opposed to. Curiously, many of the justices who were in support for extradition sound up dead. There is also the fact that countless government records against criminals were destroyed. Finally, there is good reason to suspect Pablo may have financed M19 to an extent.

Note: most of the opposition to Escobar in this video are mercenaries, hired to try and take him out. The heavy-set, shaved head guy at 0:52 and other scenes is Peter McAleese, the Scottish mercenary, Ex - SAS soldier, battlefield proven, who organized a mission to get Escobar with his crew. @@notsocoolguy8492 my point about colombia was about corruption. If the army isn't even going to try to overwhelm his ranch with soldiers, regardless of him having bodyguards, it "really says something about the state of Colombia back then".
@notsocoolguy8492
@notsocoolguy8492 3 жыл бұрын
@@sumvs5992 my point still stands. Not only was the government after Pablo (the side Pablo hasn't bribed, scared, or killed), but he also had to deal with paramilitary groups, other rival Cartels (like Cali), Los Pepes, and so on. So although Pablo was living the high life, he wasn't exactly living the easy life. All it takes is the right bribe from just about any of Pablo's enemies to see him dead. Your quote could also apply to my point. In fact both our points go hand in hand together. Imagine that. As for your comment, there are many reasons why that couldn't happen. 1. The ranch is both ridiculously massive, and remote. Logistics would've been stressful at best. 2. Bribes because duh, Colombia. 3. Pablo has other properties to retreat to. 4. Pablo still had considerable support from the people (even after the plane bombing). So killing him would've caused uproar. Even after death, he's still remembered in the same way Che Guevara is still remembered. 5. Killing Pablo first would've caused more harm than good, creating a power vacuum that would cause more violence (like what happened in real life). 6. Covert operations (CIA was involved, shocker) were more successful at choking out the Medellin than overt operations although the latter did happen at some points. So to summarize this entire response: I'm not saying your point is wrong. But what I am saying is that it's only half of the scope of what Colombia was like back then, that's all.

It should be noted most of the Mercenaries had been either in Rhodesia or South Africa before and many were in Angola. There were Rhodesians, South Africans, Australians and a couple of Brits and the lead guy was Scottish.

I had read Columbia as "Colorado" at first, it was an extremely confusing experience I might say.

Colorado might have some serious problems, but we Americans are truly blessed. I don’t know if you are a American or not, but Colombia was many things back then but peaceful it was not. Not even close to it, and so much corruption. It’s insane if you do your own research and put actual effort in it.

Pablo Escobar was killed by a Delta Force sniper. The official story is that he was killed by a Cop with an SMG, but the wounds to Pablo Escobar's head, were consistent with Delta Force training. Two shots to the side of the head, just below the ear. Funny enough, years later with the Waco siege in the US. One of the Branch Dividians had the same type of wounds, two shots to the side of the head, just below the ear. Which Delta Force did provide "guidance" to the FBI on scene.

@@youtubeiswarpingdiscourseb7368 The book, Killing Pablo would be good. It's by the author and journalist Mark Bowden, who also did the book Black Hawk Down. For his research into the 1993 incident in Somalia, he found out about the Delta Force's involvement in Columbia while at Fort Bragg, which is where Delta Force trains and is located. They were once known as the Combat Applications Group, that was their official title to hide their true purpose.
