No they're more akin to a superhero title replaced by new individuals after that version dies. Each soul stone on the suit has a soul of one the inheritors of the suit. Including the original phoenix lord.

They're basically Primarchs who are perpetuals and would make the strongest of Primarchs look like children. But on the tabletop they're the the worst HQ units you could go for except maybe Asurman because hes got some good auras.

Here an idea: If the Phoenix Lord models haven’t been updated in years, why not commission your own designs, Majorkill? You have already made models of your own mascot. So long as GM doesn’t care, I can’t imagine anything from stopping you. After all, it feels like a big appeal of the Phoenix Lords is their ability to take matters into their own hands and come out on top. I feel it would be only fitting.

@@wisefool722 ay me too. I would prefer if he uses his warhammer community (aka potential profit for gm) to show gm that they can do a shut ton of money with new or slightly updated models. They did it for some fan canon so I hope that the argument of profit is good enough to make them listen. Maybe something like commission based payment for new designs? They'll still charge 200 pounds for a basic set but the maybe they'll allow custom designs if they get sold on behalf of gm with a cut that goes to them for the license. Similar to lucasarts and star wars back in the day.

That would probably be the best time to request new Eldar models for 9th addition. Another little party trick exclusive to the Phoenix Lords:the ability to sacrifice a soul from one of the soul stones incorporated in their armor to kickstart a avatar without having to sacrifice a living eldar. That was likely the method used by the reaper man when he wanted some of that god nectar for his blade.

I still prefer the old version, in which Asurmen was already a great warrior/leader before the Fall, urging the still sane eldar to escape, organizing the departure of Craftworlds alongside Eldrad Ulthran, making him way more worthy of his position and title. It could indicate that Asuryan perhaps chose him as his right hand. In that damn Thrope book he's an idiot, who doesn't want to leave on a Craftworld and basically survives the Fall & what follows because the plot needs him to.

Strong Eldar Psykers can eventually turn into crystal as they get older and can become practically immortal, but they cant move.

@@superiorsoldier57 well most commonly for them since they're stuck down that path but potentially any of them who uses warp magic long enough could become crystal. Most Craftworlds even have a little forest like area for these Eldar and often that's where they'll go for their readings as the crystallised ones basically become a conduit for better connection to the infinity circuit, basically becoming a signal booster. Eldrad is as good example of seeing this because as the oldest living Eldar and one who has been a seer for over 10 thousand years we see that he's been able to hold this process off to a limited degree but was still eventually going to succumb to it, not sure if his revival by Ynnead fixed this or not, but it was definitely a looming issue for him beforehand.

Eternal Eldar Primarchs. Nuff said. Pity their stats are never Primarch level. Honestly the other Aspect Warriors need their Phoenix Lords. Would start with bringing back Drastanta, later altering Lykhosidae to become the Warp Spiders Phoenix Lord, then making the Crimson Hunters Phoenix Lord in a heavily jacked-up Nightshade Interceptor. After that give the Crystal Dragons, Ebon Talons and Slicing Orbs of Zandros a debut.

Drazhar has been confirmed to be a Phoenix lord in the Psychic Awakening. he was killed by Jain Zar's new meatsuit (after he killed the previous one and gave its armour to the Mandrakes) and his armour possessed the klaivex who came across it. it can be argued that he is confirmed as Ahra (don't know if it's spelled right), but that's kinda iffy. :3

Yeah, power scaling is weird and inconsistent like that, Khaine gets shit on alot, a freakin god (if a broken one..) yet these at best demigod Eldar Phoenix Lords can just solo legions of greater demons barely braking a sweat while his avatars or even the god himself often get the short end of the stick. That's not to say I don't think their SUPER awesome, the Phoenix Lords, cause they are but it is telling of Games Workshop's... *"scattered vision" (multiple writers and novelists that make their own takes of the setting with little if any feedback)* the Warhammer 40k lore and story and characterizations of their...well characters.

I don't know, given their track record I kinda doubt it but who knows crazy and unexpected things can happen if this year is any kind of portent. It's not so much I don't mind the idea of conflicting accounts of events and characters within a fictional universe cause I think that's both a great way to provide interesting perspective based storytelling and helps to have a bit of "breathing room" from a writing standpoint. Instead of a strict dogma I'd probably prefer a more conversational approach, in that groups of writers take the time to speak with each other about some key plot points and characters and how each of them have reinterpreted these concepts and how they choose to portray certain events and characters within the 40k universe that leaves some loose narrative threads that could be tied together, used to link and mesh with each work more...organically, like exploring what if scenarios of history if you know what I mean. Like I wouldn't want the lore to be TOO solidified and rigid cause I don't think that's Warhammer 40k's strong suit, rather it's being able to incorporate neat and sometimes not so neat ideas almost on the fly that can be rewritten to flow better into the story on a later date which helps keep things fresh while not being afraid to commit to some concepts but not be incapable of changing directions atleast in organic ways if that make sense but not so adverse to...slightly "unorthodox" (like say teaming up with former foes or tolerance within reason that is) precedents and practices. Again if you get what I mean, but alas I don't hope too much that things will change atleast, even if there would be some..."growing pains" involved with the process of progression the storylines and setting. (not everyone will like the changes even the ones that are pretty orthodox by precedent)
