Phoenix Resale is a Hypocrite: Is DK Oldies a Scam? (Raw Reaction)

Today, I take a look back at a video Caleb (Phoenix Resale) posted about 3 months ago on his second channel Renix Pesale titled Is DK Oldies a Scam?. In the video he pretty much admits to inflating game prices for profit and then complains that DK Oldies does the same thing.

3 million dollars in inflated sales from just one person, that certainly affects the market. At an average of 25 dollars that is 150,000 grossly inflated sales. Just one person, then he breeded these people to push the market higher to benefit his " business" model

The days of struggling hard working parents bringing home there lonely children a box full of games for a great price are pretty much over. They are stealing joy and family bonding from people for profit. They created this great inflation artificially.

@@steviefreakinc Usually when I go to gamestop.. or I'm at a second hand store... And I see a really good deal.. I just leave it behind for someone else if I already own it. Sometimes I go into gamestop out of boredom during their 4 for $40 / 4 for $20 / 4 for $10 deals. And I put them all next to each so someone else can hopefully find a good deal. I like to think of it as putting good karma out in the world. Example A: I found a copy of Deadpool on xbox one for $25 2-3 weeks ago... before it blew up in price overnight. I knew I wasn't really interested in playing it so I left it behind for someone else to scoop up. Example B: I was at a local second hand shop yesterday and found season 4 of continuum on dvd for $40.. it's rare & oop. I saw it on ebay listings of it for $100-120. I also left that behind as I had just spent $400 on ebay for the complete series s1-4 on blu-ray not to long ago. I saw no reason to buy something I already own... just to flip it. Hopefully someone out there finds it and completes their collection for it.

It is laughable for Phoenix Resells to say that the buyer gets screwed on eBay; the buyer has more power. At one point, eBay gave more power to sellers to the point - this was very early on eBay where I imagined they favored the seller because that is how they get their revenue from. I remember buying a Japanese Beast Wars figure during the late 90s/early 2000s where the seller accidentally labeled me as a non payer despite I had proof of payment and everything - I even gotten the item. However, I never used the proof since I don't think I thought of it. This was back when seller received payment via money order. Anyway, I received a strike from eBay from being a non-payer despite I appealed to it and reached out to the seller.

I remember during the covid era back in 2021 me and my little brother where into pokemon cards until I found out all of the resellers would camp the stores around our neighborhood and will take all the cards leaving the shells empty and reselling them in ebay for more. Idk if you heard about the mc doanlds pokemon cards that were being bought in packs and would leave kids with out a chance to have them its crazy I checked on eBay that time and this dude was selling the whole happy meal box for 100 dollars.

Always trend-hopping, never having time to stop and appreciate the stuff that they keep, and manipulating the marketplace to make it inaccessible for regular folk to get and truly cherish. I hate when you're watching their videos and you see them look at like a stack of 10 games and they immediately pull out the 1-2 bangers and leave the common garbage for everyone else. Just subbed to the channel, heard good things about you on Reddit. I enjoy your takes especially in regards to resellers.. Phoenix’s Amazon is aggressively overpriced. His prices make sites like Lukie games and DK oldies who do mark up their products look like mom & pop shops. For example he has a super Mario 64 cartridge which he just made a YT short on cleaning it up with sunscreen lmfao on Amazon for $85. At best that’s a 30 dollar game. Lukie is selling it for 60 and DK oldies is selling it for 40. Yet he has the balls to call out DK Oldies for price gouging. You literally get the game for more than half off his price on DK oldies and you can get it for 25 dollars cheaper than his price from Lukie. SMDH, keep fighting the good fight brother.

These resellers don’t actually care about playing games. When they do “collect” all they care about is how much a game is worth. Look at Collectors Luck for example. All he talks about is how much games are worth. He does not care about the experiences these games provide.

Recently picked up a 3DS as I never had one, I bought a Japanese version of Senran Kagura for £20 (ebay), others wanted £65+ (English). I went back to Ebay as I thought I'd like to pick up the second game Deep Crimson in advance, sellers asking £260~ BIN.. insane. It's like you keep saying, sucks for us players/ collectors who actually want to play and own these games for fun.. I already have a homebrewed 3DS and know I could download it for free, but to me it's a complete different feeling between physically owning a game and inserting a cartridge and being able to store the case on a shelf. If I download it, for free, I wouldn't feel like I 'own' the game at all.

I used to scoff at ROMs and emulation because I enjoy experiencing the games as they were intended to be played. But I'm with you now, collecting is a thing of the past with the continued skyrocketing prices forcing me off the hobby. Now I do ROMs and emulation, some repros like anyone else, it's lame but people like this pushed people that way.

I came across one of phoenix videos and watched it. It was about him going to all the walmarts around his area and buying out all the 3DS and Wii U games that were marked discounted. That upset me because that is why all the games are always gone. People like me and others don't have the money or time or even wait for the price to come down to get a game and people like Phoenix buys all the copies and resales them for more money. There are games I want to get for my 3ds but the prices of those games are just out of price now. And way above the retail new price. $100-$300, MGS3 comes to mind.

Here’s my take on resellers: they are glorified middle men. Now people would like to claim that a store like Walmart and Target are middle men but that’s kinda bs. They acquire their inventory from distributors that do not have a consumer facing way to sell their goods. What resellers do is, essentially, go to distributors (e.g. pawn shops, yard sales, department stores, etc) and then sell it back to the community. If resellers all died tomorrow, the world would barely notice. It wouldn’t be like if every trash collector quit at once. Resellers are useless people. They give nothing back to society.

Like I’ve said in other comments, it use to be that you’d go to a store/flea market/yard sale and if you saw an awesome game for cheap but you didn’t need it/already had it, you’d leave it for someone else. Now, because of how stupid this hobby has become, you are considered a fool if you leave a game that has value (“because you should flip that shit man!”). When that started being the case, I stopped hunting for games. I’m not some fucking whore for eBay or Amazon. If I need money, I can get it doing something useful for society. Like cleaning toilets.

I think its crazy that he’s basically had to resort to sourcing from conventions and some game stores when he used to go to garage sales or thrifts. So many resellers came from these type of channels that they have to rely on friends with game stores. The gamecube gambit was honestly the thing that bothered me because he sold basically everything in the end and it was all really for views. Misleading people to think he’s actually a gamer and keeping the game collection of his “childhood dreams”. Half way through the series he just straight up gave up on actually playing the games at the end of the videos. Didnt sit well with me. Also idk how riff protects this guy. Also, Did you see when Chase after the right price went to a game store and the game store refused to sell to him cause hes a reseller?

Just wanted to say the Chase after the right price thing - if you watch the full video it was actually just a misunderstanding. It was a store he had been going to for a very long time. One of the employees thought they couldn’t sell to other sellers, but then he talked to the owner and it was just that sellers couldn’t use some sort of promotion/member program discount. But the title of the video was kind of misleading unless you watch the full video.

Most of DKoldies success has came from their games because they actually take the time to clean/ repair them because its takes so little effort & time and generates a faster profit What he said about inflating the price is false When the majority of sellers see something that they're selling for way lower than these scummy flippers its causes the honest sellers to raise their prices cause theyre seeing it sell at that absorbent price and by not raising their price Theyre taking a loss.

What I always found funny about resellers is say a video game happens to sale for a insane amount like one dumbass bought resident evil for let say 100 all the resellers see this then follow suit and price it up as high, they're indeed inflating the prices...much love good content as always
