I'd honestly have Canadian Judge grilling Pheonix instead of Udgey. It feels wrong having Phoenix be grilled by him given the history they have.

so many things brought up by the judge are either irrelevant or legitimate (in terms of in-universe) uses, methods of obtaining or simply doing his job in order to get evidence or testimony. additionally the judge questions the presence of Maya Fey, who isn't always with phoenix for his trials, as she either isn't there, might not be there or is the defendant. isn't there at all is the first trial of Ace Attorney 1, Rise from the ashes and possibly the post credits scene of Ace Attorney 1, and the last case of Justice for all and the last case of Trials and Tribulations with this consideration in mind, Maya's absence is quite normal and shouldn't be questioned, as she isn't there for almost half of Phoenix's on screen trials additionally considering future trials get the people Phoenix proves could be the murderer and that they don't go against what Phoenix proved was a possibility we have to consider that all of phoenix's previous methods are perfectly fine, or the results he got were perfectly legitimate as he's always presented evidence legally according to the in-universe evidence law. TL;DR: the judge questions things that are most likely proven to be legitimate by future trials, legitimate in-universe methods, Phoenix doing his job, and supposes that Maya's absence is an oddity despite her not being there for 5 of phoenix's previous cases, (the trial phoenix presenting evidence being the 6th), Maya hasn't been Phoenix's assistant for nearly half of his cases and therefore her absence shouldn't be questioned.
