They really stand out when the trunks are diamond cut and stained here in SW FL and they go for ~$450/ ft

So I’m in central Florida near Daytona beach and I’m trying to harvest as many of these seeds as possible. I see them all over town right now showing up new and they’re green. They should turn yellow orange as they mature and then they go to a purple black color? When should I harvest them for planting?

Beautiful palms awesome video you made me laugh in your funny cat. I love how much of the of the fruit you were eating 😂😂
@ScaryHairyGary4 жыл бұрын
That fruit was delicious. Not a lot of flesh but tasty. More chocolaty than a typical date. Gonna eat some more right now.

How old are those trees

Hard to say. 15-30 I would guess. Depends on conditions.

When my sylvaster palms were planted, thier leaf bases in the trunks were bright orange... and now they are light brown and whitish...😤 and not only in my yard, in many other areas where they were planted near roundabouts, the same thing happens...

Great video do you think the Sylvester palm would survive in the Atlanta area
@ScaryHairyGary4 жыл бұрын
It is very hardy, maybe to 15 degrees. I have no idea what the Atlanta extremes are but if you had a C shaped brick building with 2 stories with the opening of the C facing South then you can pick up about 5-7 degrees of protection.

@@ScaryHairyGary thanks for replying. The coldest I've seen since iv moved to Atlanta is 20° here and there. I may try my luck with one. I have windmills and pindos just need a new look

If we were to buy a smaller tree from you, would you ship it to Botswana, Africa?

Great job could this Sylvester palm survive in the Atlanta area
@ScaryHairyGary3 жыл бұрын
I’m sure it could survive there. It’s one of the hardest of the Date Palms. This winter might have been rough on it though

@@ScaryHairyGary hey, I did plant a sylvester her in Atlanta zone 8a. Got a few outer leaf burn due to cold temperatures down to 18 here and there but it made it. December and January are our coldest months. Feb is cold but not quite as January. Thanks for insight
