Phoenix Technologies Kicklite Stock: Equipment Review

If you're a turkey hunter, you know that in the turkey woods you sometimes have to hold still for long periods of time. That's why Joe went on a search for a tactical style stock for his turkey hunting shotgun to help with wrist relief and a comfortable length adjustment after experiencing long days in the turkey woods using a traditional stock. He decided to upgrade his turkey shotgun with a Phoenix Technologies Kicklite Stock which he found online. After installation and a test shoot, this tactical shotgun stock seems to be a pretty comfortable option!

Also most people don't worry about a recoil reducing stock for a hunting gun....since your only shooting 2 to 3 times at most. Most people buying a kicklite are buying them for home defense

It is for sure nice looking, but that cheek punch!! I had one on my 870, but too it off after the non stop cheek punch. Looking for a better one.

I ended up getting the cheek riser for it which helped some. But yea the 835 in general does kick pretty good.

I put it on my Saiga 12 and I love it. It doesn’t even feel like I’m shooting a shotgun. I took my Saiga and kel-tec ksg the Saiga was a dream but the ksg left bruising I was shooting 3 inch slugs. It’s amazing how much recoil it takes out.

This is the most recent review I could find. Not one is telling the truth. I had the kicklite on my maverick 88. I swear the kick was worse than the OE stock. Had to put a limb saver on but eventually took the kicklite off because recoil was not just heavy on my shoulder but on my trigger hand too. Big waste of money. Don't listen to the hype! Magpul SGA with a slip on limbsaver works well for me.

Thanks for the review. Nope been there and done that with the "recoil absorbing" stocks with the built in spring. Its Purely marketing hype. You want a stock that won't move for fastest follow up shots.

Some of us whom are older and have had shoulder injuries benefit from this, shoulders cant take the recoil like when we were younger and uninjured.

Any updates after shooting it for awhile? I was thinking about getting one of these for my 835, but I didn't want to mess too much with what works. I'm also on the shorter side, so anything that can help make it more comfortable is what I'm looking for.

I did put an adjustable cheek rest on it which helps I think. I’m planning on reviewing that as well when I get the time to do that. I also put about 20 rounds of turkey loads through it in preparation for turkey season and took it hunting a few times already. Got a nice bruise on my cheek from all that shooting, but I suppose that could happen with the original stock as well. I don’t know what you use your shotgun for, but I do like using this stock for turkey hunting. The adjustable stock really helps since I wanted a shorter stock. Also the pistol grip is much more comfortable in my opinion.

I know you weren't asking me specifically but I put one of these on my Rem 870 magnum and honestly I'm kind of dissapointed. It sits lower than it should and I have to reach my trigger finger quite a bit far upward and it's not comfortable. In order to modify it to fit I would need to remove quite a bit of material from the mating surface at a different angle and also drill out the hole for the main bolt to make it sit higher and although I've had it for 2 years now I haven't tried to do that. If it did fit the way I want it, I'm sure it would be great. It doesn't wobble around and it's definitely glass fiber reinforced plastic so I'm sure it would be hard to break it.

Just bought one but didn’t attach it yet to my Winchester 1300 defender. Wanted to shorten the stock. Do you feel a recoil difference from the stock and kick lite?

There is some recoil absorption I think, but not as much as I was expecting

Nice video. One question.... can you lock the stock in position? I'm worried about bumping the adjustment lever and the stock sliding back or forward.

The adjustment lever doesn't lock, but it is spring loaded. I have not had any issues with it getting bumped so far. I actually just went and messed with it after reading this and found that the stock will not slide until the adjustment lever is nearly fully depressed which would make it very unlikely to bump it on accident.

Thanks for taking the time to share, excellent! I was stuck between this Phoenix and the ati folding stock. I was a tad surprised that the recoil of yours was as much as it looked like, but that feature gives it the edge for me to pull the trigger (pun intended) on three Phoenix system. Thanks again.

How do you like engaging/disengaging the tang safety with the pistol grip?? Ive heard it takes more movement and we all know how turkeys pick up on movement.

It's not ideal but it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. Just a little extra movement of the thumb which isn't really much for turkeys to pick up on.

How does the cheek placement and eye relief workout with your red dot?

Honestly, the stock is a little low for an optic in my opinion and it would be better with just open sights. However, I know Phoenix Technologies makes an adjustable cheek riser. I haven’t gotten one yet, but I think might I the future. I haven’t had any issues so far without a riser, but it would probably be more comfortable with one.
