Hey Guys, Back to regular posts after this. But this is insane for the repair community and is really going to hurt a lot of repair shops worldwide. Before doing any iPhone 13 Screen replacements you should watch this video so you know the risks. If you don't own an apple product and think you're safe, you probably aren't. Most companies follow not too far behind apple. I also filmed this at 1 am so please disregard how tired I sound 😂

How about if someone steals my iPhone, they can’t sell it for parts. I like knowing that Apple will refuse a repair if some dishonest jerk tries to fix my phone. It’s a double-edged sword, while it helps the consumer it also hurts the consumer. There’s an advantage for the consumer to be closed off for quality control. Apps on iOS work better because of Apple’s strict quality control. I know there have been apps that bypassed their “security” or T&C but it happens less with Apple than with other platforms. It’s easy to crap on a company because you don’t like them but really think about how this can also hurt the consumer. Now I have a lost iPhone that the person who stole can take to get repaired to Apple. Apple is now forced to fix a device for a thief who has a right to repair my phone

This would have been ⅒ acceptable if Apple actually repairs phones or provide the tools that repair shops need to fix their phones. Their "authorized" repair providers and their own repair services will quote ridiculous amounts for any sort of repair. Even going to the extent of "faking" a diagnostics test and will just basically charge you $700 for a logic board replacement when all the phone needs is a new front earpiece speaker. I wouldn't mind this entire pairing fiasco if Apple sold the parts. This would be better because they can guarantee that wherever a customer gets a display replacement, the display would be a genuine one. But no, the use this pairing thing to tempt you in buying a new phone instead of repairing it.

Authorized Repair guy here. Without RepairCal(Apple's software to pair the device to the screens), even Apple's own screens will have this even going way back to the iPhone X. Typically you can passed this with various work arounds from the 12 and under, but this just seems overreaching. At point is the phone even ours? And it's Apple's own fault for the lack of quality of parts that aren't available for repair shops and customers. It creates a dissonance and a lack of trust between the customers and the 3rd party repair folks who do honest good work. They created this problem and solve it with AppleCare insurance. Just my take.
