To my ear, the Empire was the hands down winner and I had owned a 681EEE back in the day.

Stanton is livelier, but also a bit harsh. I myself have it on my record player... hmm must start looking for an Empire.

Empire sounds much better. The Stanton is sounds harsh.

Whilst the Stanton seems to be a more vivid cartridge it doesn't capture the reverb anywhere near as well as the Empire in the opening bars.

Just by measurements and specifications, I predict the Empire sounds better
