The thing i love about Phos is that even though she went though a ton of change you can still see her personality in all of them. A lot of other characters will start similiar to phos, being that naiv kid, then going through a traumatic experience and come out as a totally different character after it. Phos went from pure to a scary looking insane and in some ways evil character and turned back to become pure again with Buddha like forgivness and love to even to the people who wronged her. She never felt like she was not Phos at any point though. It really made you feel the thousands of years the story goes through. Not even her goals changed that much, from the moment she meets Cinnabar she was always looking out for someone, took a while for her to get a real shot at doing that by making a deal with the Lunarians who were the only actual threat in their live at that point and she went through so much that she didn't even remember her goals by the time she reached them but it was always heading for that direction. The real tragedy is how none of the other gems really cared for her in the end, especially moongems and most of all Cairngorm got absolutely perfect lives gifted by Phos and they still treat her like shit, adapting the lunarian way of this passiv ignorance that is really disgusting to me. Cinnabar said somethign like "i feel bad about not feeling bad" at some point and it really hit hard. Phos definetely started as a flawed character and spiraled down but as the story stands now she really achieved a form of enlightenment, going through the hell of total isolation several times for people that either used her or don't care about her at all only to come out on the other end to say "finally we understand each other" and fullfilling their biggest wish
@inspirashamul2 жыл бұрын
There is this dichotomy of Phos who never changes at their core even though everything around them physically and mentally has changed. This seems like a difference in interpretation but please correct me if I am wrong in the assumption. I don't believe that Phos is truly Enlightened and that their desire might have always been the same of wanting to help another but the actual cause of that is far from it. The moment the goal gets modified even by a little bit, that goal is no longer the same and the story tells us that by how crucial even 1 word, Fun, is to Cinnabar. And Yeah Cinnabar says it in the middle of Ch 96 and it is painful to hear but looking at it from Phos' POV, they projected their own worries and feelings onto the gems that allow in their hallucinations. There is a huge disconnect between what Phos thinks Cairngorm, Antarc, Ghost, and Cinnabar care about and what they actually care for and we see that in Ch 96 regardless if the adapted the Lunarian passive ignorance because the gems themselves have always been ignorant just in a slightly different way. The "finally understand each other" is not true. Phos is equating things based on the heaps of information they got pounded into them for 10000 years. Doctor, Enma, Kongo have all guided to Phos to this moment and it is up to them to decide what they actually want because going into Nothingness is not it. It is just the only option Phos feels they have due to how the circumstances are presented. We shall see in Ch 99 what actually happens but Phos has a ways to go even now to become truly free.

I still hate the subliminal messages of continued societal victim shaming. It's teaching that the victim has to stuff the painful atrocities deep inside, not go after justice, and the victim will not be healed until you forgive it. IT'S VICTIM SHAMING AND IT NEEDS TO STOP! All that does is forcibly silences the victim and the abuser gets away with everything. This needs to stop.
@WhoMightThis1Be2 жыл бұрын
@@amandamaglio6838 @Amanda Maglio I see your point but i don't think the shaming part is true. Phos suffers a lot by other peoples hands but this is never portrayed as a good thing, instead of getting shamed she becomes a god figure like Buddha or Jesus who are both loved for showing true compassion, even to people who did them wrong. This isn't a revenge story where people do bad stuff and get punished for it. This is a story where people have goals and sometimes act selfish that resulted in Phos getting the short end of the stick, nobody intended for that though, it's just how the situation turned out. I think this is a very realistic dynamic of social structure, i don't see how applying basic black and white labels like victim and abuser to those characters does the situation justice. Sometimes bad stuff happens to us that isn't the fault of anyone, looking for someone to blame isn't always justified
@melumeze8264 Жыл бұрын
Also I think that if phos would be so humane nothing is still nothing would have happened. In Cause of her feelings, they does a lot of effort to fit in this society. Other gems, especially old gems cant feel so deep like phos. Yeah they have feelings, but they doesn't feel.

As someone that struggle with mental health, Phos saved me. Started the manga in school, I'm 21 yo now. I hurted myself, almost died trying to change stuff i knew i shouldn't but i wanted to be accepted. Lost yourself is a very painful change, you don't know who to trust, and you don't trust yourself either. You are alone. You start to lie to yourself, thinking you never deserved love, so you start hate you and everyone. Now I'm studying psychology, and I'm slowly healing becasuse if phos could with all it pain and suffering, i can too :')

Phos is really one of the characters that had most swerves in their characterization that I know. I still feel HnK can be seen as a "critique", quotation marks necessary, of the human spirit. Phos grew up and prayed for them mostly because if he didn't, the cycle would start anew and the Lunarians eventually would conoct another plan and subject another person to the same ordeal as Phos to reach nirvana through "cheating" the system. The cycle of cruelty and kindness would restart and who knows how it'd end. Therefore, all this journey was for Phos to realize this and so pray. That's how I interpret.

I really think the most satisfying ending would be for phos to just pray for themself . when the light receeded everyone would have just been standing there now, condemned for eternity. Would have served them right. Would have been the most human of ends. The most suprising thing for me in the whole series was how kongo literally gave no craps about phos once he got to the moon. Did enma manipulate him too? There were a few gems that changed thier personalities once the lunarians got thier hands on them. Becoming cruel and selfish.
@inspirashamul Жыл бұрын
I think once Kongo was turned into a Lunarian, the restrictions that were placed on him were lifted as well which led to a change in personality. Now for the other gems, yeah maybe a new environment affected them a lot more than it should’ve? We know that Phos was a considerably different gem pre and post moon for example. I hope Phos gets some kind of closure like that we can only hope we a few chapters remaining in the series!
@jebes909090 Жыл бұрын
I@@inspirashamuli dont know. Enma has been shown to manipulation gems before. Literally all the gems except antarctacite and yellow diamond(who mysterious is taken out of commission) have dramatic changes in personality after being 'worked on' by the lunarians. Padparadscha becomes a complete psychopath. Caringorn becomes a sociopath. Diamond becomes crazy too. Its like he takes away thier empathy and replaces it with hostility.

I thought the platinum symbolized silver and the mercury/cinnabar was carnelian, although what you said makes more sense. I did have a bit of trouble following along. Not exactly sure why but I think it had to due with the pacing. At times it felt like really long run-on sentences.
@WobblesandBean2 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Lots of run on sentences.
@anonymouswhite79572 жыл бұрын
That and also i think a lot of back and forth between symbolism, direct meaning, scientific facts, and philosophy with no clear separation. For example: The part where Inspirashmul mentioned gold/platinum material sciences irl and went straight into the alloy reacting to phos emotions improperly because of their mental instability. People who can connect the dots would understand it perfectly, but for the others the metaphysical and the physical gets muddled up together.
@inspirashamul2 жыл бұрын
Yeah either interpretation is fine in honesty. I always found that platinum felt like it was just added-on for the sake of adding on as everyone talked about it as just gold (me included) for a long time. So I was looking for other possibilities and settled on what the structure of this video became. That's totally understandable, my thoughts are a little scatter-shot with this video. Looking at it on a macro level, I did have trouble finding the order that I wanted to display the treasures because I didn't want to just list them in order of appearance. Plus the changing of hands and the amounts of ad-libbing outside of the script to give editors some creative freedom to cut or add whatever they wanted for their respective sections could attribute to the pacing. I do have a lot of run-on sentences didn't really notice it until I started doing the closed captions post publication. I'll try to be a little more stream-lined in the future.
@inspirashamul2 жыл бұрын
@Anonymous White Appreciate it yeah I didn't really think to add transitions between the different layers of interpretation and they all get mixed together even though it makes sense to how I process them. I definitely shouldn't expect every viewer to understand the thought sequencing so I can do a better job of having visuals to accent the script instead of add more confusion potentially.

Now that i think about it, i’d also do similar thing if i was talking about a piece of media i’m invested in. Also i’m partly here to assimilate bits of your umwelt/perspective. While the video is kinda confusing, in a way it have a piece of you in it (and all the other people working on this). So... Not really sure if i wanted it to be more digestible or remain as it is. Don’t let my words influence you much, what’s important is what you wanted to do and convey

Losing part of their bodies, even a small amount randomly removes their memories. This leads to existential questions like what really defines a person and what constitutes death.

Great connection to it yeah! Phos feeling that loss which most of these gems that are currently there haven't creates this feeling of emptiness. As usually when the Lunarians attack, either they take all of the gem of none of the gem.

Have you seen the book called Life and Culture of Y-3579203181277? I read a partial translation about it (though keep in mind this was unoffical translation). It's really interesting, it looks like the book was written by an alien species, what if it's written by humans??? I mean humanity looks very advanced in the manga, like what if a few people colonised on another planet or smt? Lovely video as usual btw!
@inspirashamul2 жыл бұрын
I have! I actually own it as well (although I can't read any of it lol) That's pretty cool I can definitely see that happening. I only really thought of the life and culture book as the completion of the Natural Historian role but didn't really think about who actually wrote it.

Regret to admit how my life has or is unfolding similarly to Phos because I happen to have been born extremely sensitive and naive. Like Phos, I am slow to certain things and quick to run in others. I had been a joke in my early years because I hated putting effort into things and life has forced me to change my sensitivity…. I think this show is amazing.

I’m 23 minutes in and perhaps it’s because it’s been quite a while since I read the manga, but honestly quite a lot of what you said just didn’t really resonate with me, and left me with an eyebrow raised. Like when you linked phos’s gold with generosity, saying cinnabar was a better fit for the role of historian, mentioning phos was agitating and trying to mess with them, Kongo doing a 180, among may other things that you mentioned…I just don’t agree with, or felt like that statement was off. I also feel that while these scientific papers that you show are quite interesting, there was just too much detail that may not actually be related to the topic at hand and could have been simplified into a shorter explanation that is more relevant to the topic.
@inspirashamul10 ай бұрын
Yeah I wouldn’t expect anyone to agree with me 100% of the time since it’s just one lens of how I view the series at that given time (between Ch 98 and 99). You are more than welcome to expand on what exactly you disagree with because I’d love to open that discussion up! Also definitely agree that my delivery for some of the sections isn’t perfect by any means as it was my first time trying to do a video that’s over an hour as a big part for the timestamp so sections were thrown in the fill up the slots. Will definitely try to make it more succinct the next time I attempt this.
