Glacier National Park is losing its iconic glaciers to a changing climate. In the mid-1800s, this Montana landscape was covered by 150 glaciers-today only 25 remain. To show the decrease in glacier size, scientists from the USGS Northern Rocky Mountain Science Center photograph the same areas where glaciers were photographed in the early 1900s. Dan Fagre, a USGS research ecologist, has been studying climate change in the park for more than 20 years. Fagre and his colleagues discuss what melting glaciers and climate change mean for the future of the park, which is expected to be nearly glacier free by 2030, based on present warming trends.

The earth changes , imagine that.. if you were to take a picture of a baby when it was first born, and the came back every 5 to ten years you would see that the baby turns into a kid then an adult.. it’s part of the process... everything changes .. ice comes and go’s , tree fall and die.. everything changes.. the earth like everything else goes thru phases .. it’s not global warming or cooling or climate change.. it’s life

@@seanmulholland7597 oh really? then explain to me how more and more are ice glaciers melting down away in just 3 years? Why there is an increase in forest fire across the world? The timeline of melting down away glaciers is not matching with the scale the natural shift occurs. The earth is heating more each year which is accelerating the sea level rise. Go to the NASA climate change website. They have the complete case of this issue.

This "warming" is cyclical just like every other place in the world the climate changes. It's normal. This is just the first time it's been documented and they are just trying to scare you. You do realize that 95% of all the global "warming" models that have been used by the U.N. and most it's member nations since the 1990's were all wrong. The data is flawed and biased. Why is Antarctica now much larger than any time in recorded history if the earth is warming? There was an ice age a long time ago, what humans caused that? And did the Neanderthals cause a global "warming" that caused the end of the last ice age? I'm pretty sure the Earth knows what she is doing because she has done it for billions of years. How did the dinosaurs last hundreds of millions of years? All the co2, oooh scary...

***** Do you not realize that it is happening to rapidly, thus raising the water levels? Besides, glaciers melting aren't the biggest concern, so I couldn't care less about them personally. However, we should stop polluting water and air, but environmentalists typically include prevention of climate change as a goal of less pollution, so by default I support that as well..

In 2017, the park was told by the agency that the complete melting off of the glaciers was no longer expected to take place so quickly due to changes in the forecast model, Kurzmen said. @@MathTravels anartica is growing actually too this year. For whatever reason ice in both Antartica and Greenland are growing. They drilled a huge hole in ice in America and now they just found out it's actually freezing really fast and expanding . It's almost like Earth's climate works in cycles. We have had ice ages and hot ages, when glaciers melt we will get new ones eventually. Lookup what they found at the antartic hole they just found out the ice shelf is growing. Climate change is just a scan to increase taxes, aka carbon and emission taxes. Earth's climate has always had cycles, ice ages and hot ages, it just has. Dinosaurs lived on Earth when it was really hot, there have been both ice ages and hot periods since day one.

Were these photos taken on the same date? Glaciers can and do grow and shrink significantly from beginning of season to end of season. Glaciers also vary widely from year to year. It seems disingenuous to not include the dates on these photos and photos from many years and not just cherry-picked years. For the past decade, there were various signs throughout Glacier National Park stating the computer models predicted that all glaciers would be gone by 2020. This prediction was clearly wrong as it is evident that many glaciers are actually growing. Glacier National Park has actually been quietly removing these signs because these predictions were so wrong. Don’t take my word, look it up.

Everything is right! Climate change is real. It's happening! But does the time of pictures influence the subject of this video? That is, there might be photographs taken in mid winters of 2013 and the next one at mid summers in 2015. Apparently we can notice the reduction of glacier mass then.

@@iancooper5360 This is an ESTIMATION ONLY! (Scientists announced that three bird species vanished from the Earth for good in 2018) Your distorted sense of reality is based on predictions and flawed computer models as well as manipulated formulas! Also consider overharvesting, pollution, habitat destruction, introduction of invasive species (such as new predators and food competitors), overhunting, and poaching. Explosive, unsustainable human population growth (urbanisation) is an essential cause of the extinction crisis.

It is exactly as Earth came out from ice ages - by the increase of CO2 in the atmosphere. Except that now we are in the middle of it with our agriculture, infrastructure, commerce, and need for a mild temperature to survive, because we die in heat waves, as you may have noticed in these few years. Your reasoning is like, "there are wildfires, therefore is totally okay to set fire to my house. It doesn't matter that I have no other place to go."
