Besides the P-38 of different types like the ELINT P-38 my father also flew the British Spit Fire in 8th Air Force 7th photo group. He was one of the highest decorated American photo recon pilots in The 8th Air Force. Thank you for making a film on the photo Recon pilots that served and what they did in WW2.

Thanks for the memories. My Dad was with Sydney Cotton when he set up the first PRU and this brought memories of him flooding back and had me hunting out his memoirs of his time with Sydney Cotton.

Thanks for posting the story of the unsung heroes of the RAF. My father flew PRU Spitfires on the Burma front based out of Calcutta. Whilst a lot of attention is given to the armed Spitfires the photo recce pilots also needed nerves of steel and courage to operate alone in an unarmed aircraft.

Do a search for 'Spitfire 944' to find an amazing account of a PR pilot from WW2. I cant post a direct link here unfortunately.

What was your father's name? Was he with 3 PRU and/or 681 Sqn?

As a model builder, I like the fact that you tell the various colour schemes the aircraft were painted!

No problem! I always struggle to find accurate colour schemes for PR Spitfires, so hopefully this should help define them more clearly

Subscribed. Unlike many other channels that misquote, mispronounce & call a Sturmovik a Spitfire, you did good Mate!

The Spitfire was so good the USAAF even used it.

Very good. Do you have nay information on the American Use of this version of the Spitfire?
@IrisAviation912 жыл бұрын
I don't know much, but I assume it was used in the same way, possibly in different theatres too...
@jacktattis11 ай бұрын
The USAAF 944 Sqn used the MkXI I think with the USAAF 8th A/F

@@jacktattis your close on the type of Spit that some of the American Recon pilots (like my father) flew. They had them labeled as Spit XI
@jacktattis11 ай бұрын
The pilots of these planes would fly below their Service Ceiling watching for contrails If there was one they would fly above or below it and watch for the enemy. When spotted the the Spitfire would be taken to above 40000ft and the pilot would watch the enemy falling away .
