This is a quick look at the photo transfer trick using an inkjet printer. This transfer trick uses a design or a photograph printed on an inkjet printer then blending that picture into the back ground using spray paint clear. This technique works on wood or other materials.

Okay...I like the idea of printing on tracing paper. How about reversing the image spraying the wood first, put the image face down and the run off the tracing paper after it dries.

any two component or 2K clear. which is an aerosol clear coat with a catalyzer typically in a smaller can that is inserted into the bottom of the main can puncturing the internal balloon. It acts as a self leveling and hardening agent allowing you to put very thick coats of clear down with less risk of runs or wrinkles and minimal orange peel to sand out afterwards and it typically is fully cured in 24hr as opposed to several days for enamels and weeks to months for lacquers. the downside is that once you pop the catalyst into the paint can you have only about 24 hours to use all the paint in that can before the agent does it's job. oxygen is not necessary for the chemical reaction to take place, so whatever you dont use just becomes a rock inside the can, best to use the whole can or not use it honestly. hope this helps, cheers.

For those of you saying this is not a transfer, the definition of transfer is to move something from one place to another. It's definitely a transfer, just not the way you assumed it would be. I'm looking to make a memorial ornament on a small heart shaped wood piece for my friend's daughter who tragically died in an accident at 3 years old. I think this is going to work perfectly. Thanks for sharing your technique. ❤️

People say it's not a photo transfer. That makes a difference. Otherwise, I'm transferring photos on a daily basis... Photo transfer is the process where you use a substance (mostly a sheet of paper) to put the print on in mirror and use that substance to transfer it to an object like T-shirt, mug, wood, etc.

Question.. after the spray clear have you tried putting layers of polyurethane on top? If so does it at all lift up the edges of the picture?

Years ago, when I was airbrushing a lot, we used rice paper. It was both archival and, if sufficiently thin, went all but transparent when cleared. For adhesion, we'd apply a tack coat of clear and use that before it dried to apply the image.
@Commandodesigns
@Commandodesigns 5 жыл бұрын
Definitely. Tracing paper is definitely easier to find. Rice paper is soo thin that it get's dicey trying to print on it. I have done it. I had to stick the rice paper to a regular piece of paper to get it through the printer. At that point it might be easier to use waterslide paper.
@terpcj
@terpcj 5 жыл бұрын
@@Commandodesigns We used to use 3m glue sticks that had the same adhesive as Post-It notes to put the rice paper on a sheet before running it through the printer. They don't make that anymore and I'm not really up on if there are any low-tack spray adhesives that are comparable (just their removable "scotch" tape). It was usually best to only print as large as you needed so as to decrease the odds of failure in the printer.

The clear coat spray has solvent in it. That's why the first coat should be very very light and make sure it's dry before adding a second coat. In his video you see him spraying over and over again, but if you do very much of that the solvent in the coat spray just seeps all the way to the bottom and releases all of your adhesive. I don't do this process but I do alot of mounting things with spray adhesive, and spraying clear coat after. What I learned that is even easier is put the top coat on, let it dry thoroughly, and THEN put the adhesive on the back and mount the paper. I only looked at this to see if it's possible to transfer photos to wood ... I will look elsewhere, lol

All he does is basically "glue" the tissue paper to the wood and clearcoat it, leaving all of the paper stuck to the wood. Stick to modgepodge transfers. I've used that method 20+ times and only messed up the first 2 times.
