The first image of the dune peak in the background (8:58) is indeed epic. Beautiful line and pattern and light. The wind appeared to be blowing at an 8 according to the "beard-o-meter" scale.

Has anyone ever said Michael looks like a young Ansel Adams, kind-of ?. The walk-in from the "Stove Pipe Wells" road is a little shorter but I bet the East side, the shorter dunes, are the more photogenic. Really nice "flicks" Nick, considering you having to deal with the wind. Can't wait to see your flower pic's.

You're a lucky man, Nick. I just got back from Death Valley and unfortunately the conditions were poor. Nothing but flat light under cloudy skies. So sad. I guess luck plays an important role in getting epic shots. I love the shot of the big dune "volcano" in the center of the frame. Well done. I am so envious of those conditions. Maybe next time!

Great stuff Nick. The one time i was in Mesquite Dunes, it was just as windy. I did bring a white twin sized sheet with me, (from my son's bed), and wrapped it around myself and camera bag to change lenses. The sheet compresses down nicely to easily fit in my bag. Worked like a charm. Of course, if you have two camera bodies, you most likely won't need to do this.

Even your "non-how to" videos are good how to videos. I spent 22 years in the Army and when I retired Death Valley NP was the first place I went to for my very first REAL vacation. I've been back there many times and plan to do more in the future. The last time I was there I was out shooting the "mud cracks" and a workshop of nine photographers marched directly across the patterns I was composing and ruining the shot by leaving their footprints and broken mud. Not to worry though because I scouted the area earlier and had several other compositions to choose from without traces of footprints and the such.
