YES!!! I call it business mode. I push myself to finish the job until I have killed every ounce of joy I could have had in the task, leaving only the self-made stress. now I'm older and can talk myself through the relaxing and enjoying parts so I don't miss them. soooo much more enjoyable. it's in our nature, BUT, we can adapt.

Would love to see you do Blencathra. Went up there one day in brilliant sunshine and when we got to the top it was thick snow and zero visibility. Quite scary trying to find the way back down, and Striding Edge was incredible

@henryturner, I bumped into a way to not-have the battery or disk problem. Just before you walk out the door, turn on your camera, and that way you'll immediately know if you don't have a battery/enough battery and/or a missing disk in it. I hadn't touched my gear in a while, grabbed it quick and did this today, and it helped.

I’ve had the RX100m2 since 2016. Captured some great moments on my travels and yes, the best part is the portability. On the streets you might loose a moment very quickly but this camera is alwys ready, out of the pocket and boom, done. Out in the wild, hiking or ski touring it has been a good light companion and helped me document the experiences. Image quality is good enough till you don’t start to make a fuss about every little detail. In general the images are great as long as you get the settings afjusted to the light conditions. Ithe only thing is thati it is a bit fragile. Have hd to swap lenses twise over 8 years. But then gain, the camera was not meant to hike in the humid jungles or the cold snowy mountains. Thnks for giving a positive review on the thing.

I'm always hurrying.... Because I am always last minute..... 😂 I'm also quite forgetful, took the wrong wire for my star tracker, when it was a rare clear night, so had to do stacking, have forgotten batteries too...... Maybe a tick list for gear to do before the forgetful ones of us could use before leaving the house 😂 When you were walking up rough crag, there were some quite narrow bits, I would have been terrified, you're brave, going over all those narrow bits....... I'd be crawling, especially when you were near the summit..... Gave me shivers just looking at how narrow those paths are..... One slip.... You're brave.

My brother is very fast and I am much slower. We both get where we’re going. As long as you go your speed and enjoy the journey, I think you’ll be great. Glad you were able to get some shots with your phone. The shots you get with your vlog videos are gorgeous, so even if you don’t get any photos not everything is ruined. You got a great hike and great vlog video.

I am not a professional photographer but my first camera was the Nikon FE in 1983 (I think) and progressed from there with multitude of nikon cameras (did weddings as well) until I bought the Nikon D700 in 2010 and little fuji X10 later on. I did not buy another camera since and don't intend to. The results I am getting from these two cameras are fantastic and made many prints that are on my walls and other family walls. After 40+ years doing photography, the key thing that matters are the lens, so I have some great nikon and zeiss lenses and the results on the D700 are fantastic. Cheers

great video Henry ,you correct when it comes to gear, it matters a fraction , you matter the most out of the equation, the area/destination, is what gets the juices flowing of creativity ,I really liked the pics you took of the heather with the different lighting from the sky, quite nice i must say, funny thing the best picture i have ever taken was with my first digital camera, a Sony 4 megapixel camera, of a lake district where my girlfriend had her cabin, was waterfront property, not beautiful ,just picturesque , we were about to leave to head back to the city when i noticed the water was like glass, no wind not a ripple, i walked out down to the dock and took 6 to 10 shots and they all turned out beautiful, it has never happened again since , that's ok, she picked one and i had it blown up to a 10"x12" portrait style picture and framed it for her for her wall at her clinic in the waiting room, it was hit everyone was asking for a copy and i said no after the first one, since then i have gone through 3 Sony cameras until today , the A100 , the A77 MK2, and now the A74 which is a great piece of gear and almost 3 yrs with it now and i am still learning all its features, and have the rest of my life to learn how to use it, most of all getting into the art, the composition side of the photo or subject and enjoy being there and in the moment, great video again , Cheers from Central Canada and i will check out your calendar 👍

Henry, I would say "You complete Wally!" But in fairness it's something I'd do too! I have even been known to go one better than that and forget my camera altogether! 🤣🤣I've got (courtesy of my wife) a check-list of everything I'm 'supposed' to have with me, pinned to the hallway door! Changing the subject ever-so-slightly, I do think that one of the reasons people watch your videos, subscribe to your channel and do your workshops and stuff, is precisely because you show them the gratitude for that.

Henry there's an old saying here in the United States. I'd forget my head if it wasn't attached. I've been that way my entire life. It's not that I have a bad memory. I just get in a hurry and forget rthings. Now that I'm in my 60s I've gotten even worse at remembering to do things. But as I've gotten older I've learned to compensate for my forgetfulness. For instance anytime I go to the store with intention of buying 4 or more items I automatically make a list. Because I know my memory will only allow me to store 3 items up there. 4 or more and I'm going to get home without something. Usually it's the one thing I did not want to forget. I own 4 cameras. It's very easy to get things mixed up, and forget to put something in my bag, or put the wrong item in the wrong bag. So I make a habit of having a separate bag for each camera. As for batteries, as soon as I get back from shooting photos I stick them in my charger. I leave my camera bag sitting on the floor next to my battery charger with the side pouch unzipped to remind me to store my freshly charged batteries.

Hahaha, you are right Henry, spent years of buying tons of gear when I got into photography and after humping it all about Snowdonia, I found that a couple of compact cameras became the best option - Panasonic LX 100 for landscapes and the Fuji X100s for Welsh village life and portraits. All standard gear is really good these days and to find a difference in quality requires scientific testing for minor differences. The compacts were as good, if not better, than thousands of pounds of bodies and lenses. Using the compacts I came second in the Guardian Arts portrait competition 2014 with the Fuji and have got loads of landscapes in local climbing and walking guides after requests from the writers/editors. Local galleries sold my prints and I have a decent stock photo portfolio. I quit about 7 years ago but now I have bought a second hand RX100 iv and looking to get some images again. Your video is inspiring and reminds me of me back in the day. Thanks Henry, it's all about the magical experience, you and the landscape, makes you feel alive.

Oh, Henry, I just started laughing when you realized the batteries were back home! I’ve done this so many times I think I’m going bonkers. Nothing more aggravating when this old man hikes two or three miles only to set up the camera on the tripod, get the image all framed up in my head and then realizes the camera won’t turn on. I’ve also gone out only to realize that I haven’t charged the battery(ies) in the bag. So sorry, man, but this happens to all of us. Have followed your channel for years and really enjoy waking up on Friday morning to see your next adventure. Keep on keepin’ on!

@JeffandLeslie
@JeffandLeslie 4 минут бұрын
@@MummaBear In Kentucky, they were built by farmers between the later 1700's and the late 1800's and some even up into the 20th century. Lots of flat stones in the ground that came up when farm fields were plowed plus in the stream beds. Unfortunately, in some regions, they were built by slaves but most were built by farmers since the flat rocks were plentiful and free where fencing material was not free.

It's been too long since I've been into that area of the Lake District, so it was great to see you do it justice. Too many tourists think the Lakes are for bars and outdoor clothing shops and random tat; but you have really nailed the essence of what the heart of the scenic Lake District really is. Great to see your amazing shots... For my part, I consistently lose the little rubber hot-shoe protectors; to the extent that when selling a camera recently; I found six of the little critters spare in the old camera bag. Of course, the new camera eyepiece seems a bit flimsy; so I'll no doubt be buying 6 spares of that little tem too.

So glad you raise the issue about image quality, because it's so much better today but we spend less energy on the emotional feel of a photograph. The lighting, color and emotion is so much more important than resolution
