The trick with eating in Italy is to absolutely make sure the menu is NOT in English, there is no one outside trying to get you to eat in the restaurant, and that the place is filled with Italians all having a good time. There are plenty of good restaurants in Rome, but they are mostly in Travestere and meet all of the above requirements. This is from living in Rome for a while and figuring out the best way to find a good restaurant. Hope it helps someone.

I love Anthony Bourdain's philosophy of you look for places with lines. If it has a line that means one of two things: It's cheap and good or expensive and fantastic. It also means the food is likely safe to eat. The locals always know.
@FStoppers7 жыл бұрын
That can go both ways because here in Charleston the 3 restaurants that always have lines are huge tourist traps. I usually base it on price...if it's super expensive it better be good. We also determined that if the restaurant is anywhere near the public square or has a menu board outside, avoid it at all costs.

Patrick, about the zoom retracting in the Panasonic LX100 after the timelapses, there is an option for the camera to remember the focal lenght you were before the lens collapses. It's in the 3rd Menu (Wrench with C) -> Page 8/9 -> Zoom Resume.

LX100 Time Lapse --- You don't have to build the time lapse after taking the photos on the LX100 and probably other Panasonic cameras. Just choose no after the time lapse completes and build them later by using the "Time Lapse Video" option in the "Play" menu (the icon under the wrench). Once you select the "Time Lapse Video" option you will be able to see all the time lapses on the memory card. Select the one you would like to make a video for by pressing the "Set" button. Choose the record quality and frame rate for the resulting video and press OK. It will still take the same amount of time to process but at least you can choose when you want it to process. I hope that helps.

Italian food is the best food. Touristic 'restaurants' don't serve food, it's just expensive rubbish. That's the point.
@binaryblog7 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with you. It's not just in Rome but I have to admit there are lots of tourist traps in Italy. You just have to avoid them.
@GiovanniMalausa7 жыл бұрын
binaryblog yes, that's it. I'm Italian and I sadly know how it works here... In the most visited city, you must be conscious of the 'danger'!

Elia uses them exclusively and I can't argue with the quality he gets. For me personally, they are smaller which is a great selling point esp if you travel but I can't find a camera that has better image quality than the D850 at this point (unless you move up to Phase). Honestly, most of these cameras are beyond what most people will pull out of them which leaves the professionals to pick based on little features that most people wouldn't even be aware of.

In Rome there are lots of restaurants "for tourists" where they feed people utter garbage. They don't care about quality, since that sheer number of tourists guarantees customers anyway. Nonetheless, there are hundreds of very good and legit restaurants in Rome. On a side note, I'm italian and I had the worst meal of my life in a restaurant in Piazza Navona, Rome. You just have to avoid those crooks.

...or this last restaurant you went to proves the point that you chose where to eat without a clue beforehand...There's bad restaurants in Italy as everywhere, but the average quality you get is certainly higher than US. Rome? didn't you go eat to McDonalds there? C'mon guys...gimme a break...Even the first "run of the mill" osteria (the ones with the checkered red and white table cloth) in Rome will serve more genuine food than what you are used to in the US. Get over it... :-) Looking forward to see the finished tutorial!

You are wrong. I live in Rome and there are plenty of amazing restaurants. The problem is you have to stay away from the restaurants in the tourist traps.
