Photographing Landscapes - Episode 1: Mountains
In this series of landscape photography tutorials, I will be talking about how to photograph specific landscape photography scenes. In this first episode, I give some tips on how to photograph my favourite subject for landscape photography, mountain landscapes.
Rather than just provide another 'top ten' list of tips and tricks on how to photograph landscapes however, I talk about my own connection with mountainous landscapes and why mountain landscapes appeal much to me for landscape photography, as well as providing some tips and advice on mountain landscape photography that you may find useful. this will include tips on lighting and composition, as well as the equipment I like to use, and how to plan mountain photography trips.
Music used in this video includes tracks from www.Bensound.com as well as some of my own music.

Hey Sam. Loved this video mate - you know... this might just be one of your best yet. Nice and deliberate and slow, well executed and cool music too. It is clear in a vid like this just how far and wide you and Hannah have extensively travelled and the sights you have seen... jawdropping. Love the clarity you get in your post processing work too. I think i said that to you in Mossburn in the cafe. Keep it up mate. Thanks for the recommendation too. Its all appreciated, despite taking a break! Regards, Ewan

I'm pleased with how it turned out though, and yes, definitely goes to show how far these little cameras have taken H and I since we started! Thanks so much for the feedback, it's really appreciated. Hi Sorin, thank you very much for your comment, I really appreciate it! I'm glad you found this useful. In terms of equipment I'm a firm believer that the most important thing is to just get out there and enjoy the outdoors, so whatever equipment you have is normally perfectly fine! Especially with landscape photography, where you don't really need all of the 'bells and whistles' of the expensive bits of kit. I'm hoping to put a few more videos like this together over the next few weeks whilst we can't get out easily, so I hope that you find them useful as well! Sam.

@@BosePhotographyThank you Sam, I can't complain about the lake District, it is incredibly varied for such a compact area and we're lucky to live on the Silverdale Song on the periphery with easy access to Yorkshire, Bowland and Morecambe bay, although I do like a cornfield or a pretty Oxfordshire village! By the way you mentioned about an eventual upgrade to the 5d and I'd highly recommend the 5ds or sr, it's not a new camera for sure and seems oddly neglected by KZbinrs. The resolution is amazing and as you have the lenses already would be a great upgrade. Best wishes Simon
@BosePhotography
@BosePhotography 3 жыл бұрын
@@Westmoreland348 Thank you Simon, yes the 5DSR does seem to be a bit under used, at least on KZbin. Perhaps people are just put off by its age. I know Thomas Heaton took one to the Alps a few years back, and Alex Nail uses one (although he has just upgraded to an R5). I'd highly recommend checking out Alex's channel by the way, if you aren't familiar with his work, he does a lot of photography in North West Scotland and his photography style is just my kind of thing (not too over processed!). Sam.

Hi Sam: I have really enjoyed this video. Upon reviewing this video I immediately think of the styles of Ewan Dunsmuir and Sean Tucker. I love their delivery style so you are in great company. My wife and I are coming to the Isle of Skye and the Lake District in the fall 2021, so I can't wait to create our own memories. We will be spending some time with Chris Sale and the Skye Photography Academy. I found your channel through Chris's channel. Who knows, maybe we will bump into each other. Just look for some middle-aged Canadians with too much camera equipment with us. Keep up the great content creation. Cheers, Keith (Canada)

I'm really glad to hear you are planning to come over to the UK later this year, and even gladder to hear that you will be spending some time with Chris and the Skye Photo Academy as well, Mark and Nick at SPA are both fantastic photographers. I certainly hope that Hannah and I will make it back up to Scotland again in the autumn if work will allow us, so we will keep an eye out! It is one of the best times to be up there (and we usually try and stop off to see Chris on the way up as well if he's free!). Sam.

I am planning a trip to India in May, and wanting to take some photography of a large hill called Arunachala, this was very helpful! I was thinking I need to buy a new lens, I have a Canon 70d body, I am bit stupid with lenses though.. What lens were you using for these shots from the Canon? 24-105mm? Which Polarising filter are you using to fit that lens?
@BosePhotography
@BosePhotography 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you, I'm glad you found it useful! The 24-105 is my main lens for these images, although I also like to use a 70-200mm for telephoto images. The 24-105 is a perfect all-rounder though so I would definitely recommend it. Also, because the 70D has an APS-C sensor the crop factor will mean it behaves more like a 160mm which would be great for mountain images. The filters I use now are made by Kase, and I love their circular polariser, but I have also used Cokin filters in the past which are a good budget option. S

Thank you very much William! My approach to post processing is to try and keep things looking as natural as possible, and I use a combination of Lightroom and Photoshop. Recently taken up photography during COVID and purchased LUMIX G9 with 24- 60 mm and 100-400mm Leica lenses as I am interested in landscape and wildlife photography.What made this video interesting to me was I visited New Zealand in 2016 with some nice photos of Milford Sound,I also walked The Tour De Mont Blanc 2019.recommended.I took some nice photos at time on iPhone and small Isus Canon camera.I now enjoy shooting Raw and in Manual. @@williambell3036 thanks William, I'm sure that most of the processes I follow in photoshop/lightroom will probably be possible in luminar as well (although I've never tried it myself!). What lenses you use to shot this mountains?
@BosePhotography
@BosePhotography 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Lanie and Dillon! The lens I probably used the most for the images in this video was the 24-105mm. It covers such a good range so I'll often just take that to save on weight if I'm hiking. My favourite lens for most mountain shots though is the 70-200mm f/4, although I bought that since making this video, so most of the telephoto images in this were taken with either the 100-400mm or the 70-300mm.
