I have been messing around taking shots during our local wrestling matches in my hometown. I usually shoot with a Canon R7 or 90D and Sigma 50-100mm; Canon RF100-400mm since I am far away from the mat area. I will agree with you, they move fast!!

I shoot a lot of basketball in crappy gym lighting. Your day starts at ISO6400 and may move up to 12800 depending on age and skill. 1/640 is pretty much an absolute minimum but I find a lot sharper at 1/1000 but you'll need some post. I use a D500, similar to the 7D2, with 70-200 or 50 f1.4. The 24-70 for the wider shots but you could probably live with the vignette if you center the shot (the vignette may be stronger towards one side with IBIS moving the sensor around). Let's face it, this is the reason most "Pro" get the 1Dx and D5. I'm sure the A7R3 wil be good but an A9 would be better. Just depends on your budget and how disciminating your clients are. For your distance 1.8 or 2.8 will probably never give you enough DoF. You just need to get a camera with better DR at high ISO (very different than DR at base ISO).

I shoot wrestling once a month…I’m not great at it yet…trying to improve…the lighting in the venue is my biggest challenge, I bought a Sony A7III because of the reviews claim it to be one of the best for lowlight photography. I’m currently using a Tamron 28-200 lens, my first attempt with this camera lens in that venue,I did not use flash, I bumped up the ISO, my photo’s were very grainy/noisy, so I do intend to use flash next time. Is there a lens you would recommend?

alot of the issues you were facing is because you don't know pro wrestling which is fair
