Thank you for sharing this. This ship was christened just a few months after I was born, and was retired the year I graduated from high school. In May of 1958, I arrived from Scotland with my family, watching the New York skyline come into view from her decks. We weathered quite a storm during that crossing with near hurricane winds and waves exceeding 21 feet. Like her, I have deteriorated over the last 28 years. I spent most of my working life as a photojournalist, and I also had to learn how to make fences disappear when I had no choice but to shoot photos through them. The last time I was in New York was on an all expenses paid trip to receive a first place award in the Time-Life building for winning a Canon sponsored contest in Sports Illustrated magazine.

Great vudeo and thank you for sharing the pictures. I been following her since the late 80s but when she was towed to philly i followed all of the possible rebuilds and idea's but unfortunately none came to pass

Sir I saw this ship when I was working in Philadelphia in 2006. If I recall I was going to a Home Depot near this ship, that may contribute to why all the lumber was sitting near there. It was the closest I had ever been to a ship of this size as you said it is massive. I did not know the story on this ship until I watched your video thank you very much.

Some of your photos were from her second pier location at Pier 98, not Pier 82, her 3rd location.

Gold 400 during the day, why? Kodachrome would of been the best choice by far. Side by side during your video should of been the goal, like the thumbnail...

@@ginog5037 I was shooting for the newspaper and that’s what we shot. They needed film back ASAP. If I was shooting for myself it would have been Kodachrome. The main purpose of the video was to show how the ship deteriorated after all these years.Thanks for watching.

yeah musk do something positive for a change. first boarded her in 65 berthed next to qe1. boarded again during the auctions years later. ship is empty now, upsetting. the states belongs next to usn intrepid and opened like qm1 or rotterdam. an opportunity that will be surely lost.
