I have not long been back from a fabulous week-long landscape photography trip to the Isle of Skye in Scotland with a group of photographer friends I have made on flickr. The six of us had a full week on Skye to enjoy some of the well known photographic locations and some less well known locations. On day 1 in Skye our fist location was to The Quiraing for a morning shoot.
The Quiraing an essential subject on the Isle of Skye for any photographer as it passes through some of the most spectacular landscapes isle and some argue in the entirety of Scotland. The Quiraing is part of the Trotternish ridge and was formed by a massive landslip which has created high cliffs, hidden plateaus and pinnacles of rock If the conditions are right, this landscape provides ample opportunities for varied landscape photographs.
On our visit the weather conditions didnt quite work out as I had expected, As this being a repeat visit from 2020 I was hopeful for more atlantic storms to roll in over the UK, alas they did but but much further south leaving only remnants of unsettled weather to photograph during our weeks photography adventure.
We also met up with some local flickr contacts and benefited from their local knowledge, which I hope will be evident in future videos I will upload from this adventure.
If you are still reading, well I wish I could give you a badge or something to show my appreciation, thank you!
Please let me know your favorite image from the video in the comments section below.
Until the next video, take care all
Geoff.

Excellent video Geoff, looks like you had an awesome time up at the Quiraing view point area, such a spectacular spot. If you head back anytime soon then walk the other way out of the car park to Biode Buidhe (two pointy things 🤣 that is so me too my the way, I always forget the names of landmarks when shooting 🤣🤣) the view from that spot is jaw dropping.. it’s the end location on my second video from sky and I think we’ll worth the little bit of vertigo you’ll get at the viewpoint. Have a great weekend mate

Thanks Jody. We will be going back up most likely next Feb (2023) its kinda like an annual pilgrimage, normally 6 of us, rent out an AirBNB for the week and use that as a base to then explore Skye. We are fortunate that we have a couple of local photographers as friends who have lived on the island for many years, so they have the advantage of knowing the lesser known spots to visit. All being well, I'm hoping to have a little more hill/mountain fitness as I underestimated some of the hikes and struggled quite a bit with some of the walks in feb. Doesnt help I'm lugging 18st about. So, time to loose some weight both in the camera bag and on the bones :)

Superb work on these Geoff, all of them are wall worthy and I'm looking forward to the next instalment. I wonder, could you have made do without the D FA 15-30?, perhaps it will come into it's own a bit later.

Thanks for the comment Kevin. 👍 your kind words are very humbling. I think I could have quite easily have done without the 15-30mm not only is weighty beast to lug about the 28-105 would have worked just as well. All that being said, as it was my first visit to the quiraing I decided to pack every lens I could carry (a hard lesson was learnt that day) and decided on the scale of the landscape as I found it the 15-30 allowed me to capture it easily. Also I'm brutally honest I hadn't used the 15-30mm for sometime and I do like to challenge myself from time to time with my lesser used lenses. Next installment I'm back on the 60-250mm and I attempt a time lapse on the canon m50 with a telephoto lens 😀

Just watched your video/blog Geoff. Love the smoothness of the roaming shots... and not forgetting the detailed captions 😊 The images you've included are some of your best work in my option. Worthy of printing and framing and most certainly contenders for this year's LPotY. Give that Wiganer a run for his money! 👍👏

Glad you enjoyed it Andy. As you know LPOTY isnt for me, I mean how can I complete with the legend that is Pete Rowbottom... could you imagine 2 LPOTY winners in car lol :) In fact I'm not going to try :) .... I have some additional images that im yet to show, that for me are my favourite from the weeks adventuring. Fingers crossed I'll be able to rustle up a video to support/showcase those images soon.

Some great shots there mate. Agree with the sentiment around preferring places that aren't overly touristy, but at least it looks like you avoided a "busy"day. I'll maybe be tapping you up for a print of the tall pointy thing vertical pano. :) ps. The video production is looking really slick.

Thanks Jay. Still many folks milling about in their high heels and white trainers.... thankfully they turn up generally after sunrise and not before :) The following day I was at the old man of Storr - people in shorts & t's whilst it was horizontal sleet and hail.... madness!

Nice work Geoff. Never be afraid to take the 'expected' shots as well, they will be yours and your own stamp of uniqueness applied. That matters.

Thanks Eddy. On reflection perhaps I could have elaborated further in the video on how I find social media dilutes the impact that well known locations have upon me. That is, often when i get to said location I'm so primed to what to expect, that the gandure or magic of the location is somewhat lost on me. As such, i feel a much stronger need to find my own angle, which at times can come as a detriment, as the 'typical' shot is *typical* for a reason :)
@SummersSnaps
@SummersSnaps 2 жыл бұрын
@@GeoffMoorePhotography Definitely. Sometimes the strongest angle has been already found for a location, it is then a case of weather, luck and light to getting something pleasing, a combination of factors that lead that same angle to being either better or worse than other togs shots or even your own (if revisiting). Add a splash of your own unique post processing and it is something fresh at least on a familiar scene. But I truly understand that desire to see if something has been overlooked and that there is an image elsewhere, a variation on a familiar theme so to speak and that is part of the excitement of photography also. Love Skye, would love to visit it again and explore it properly as a photographer. Last time I was there was when my wife and I eloped in 2005

Thanks for your reply Eddie, seems as though we share similar views on this point! Skye with the exception of the pandemic has been an annual pilgrimage for me 3 times and counting. I have been trying to persuade the group that perhaps we should try the west coast of Ireland (thinking atlantic storms and very dark skies facing south/west for some astrophotography) or failing that going south to Cornwall, plenty of locations and iconic spots to shoot, not to forget ancient stone circles and things to photograph that don't seem to get as much love and attention. Still my real love is Wales, living on the borders in Worcestershire, Wales does have a bit of everything from Woodlands / Coasts and Mountains and its only 2 to 3 hours drive away, which makes it doable in a night without the need to stop over and sleep somewhere.

Beautiful photos Geoff how do u find the 28-105 lens on the K1 looking forward to more uploads Paul
@GeoffMoorePhotography
@GeoffMoorePhotography 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Paul. the 28-105 is in my opinion a massively underrated lens. It punches way above its price point and in many ways is a perfect fit with the K1 from focal reach, image quality and weight. Really I cant praise it enough. Many of my images have been taken with it and its one lens that I would buy again in a heartbeat.
