Not sure if you get them in Canada, but the Toyota Landcruiser Troop Carrier (70 series) is extremely rugged and reliable, and big enough to sleep in. They use them on the mines in Australia, so they are built to handle things like logging roads and last forever.

Lovely images of the bunchberry plants. My 2 cents says look into an older Suburban. Check out what the Suboverland guys are doing with them. 4WD, beefier frame, plenty of room and power. Sure, you'll give up some gas mileage, but there's always trade-offs. Will be interested to see what you do come up with.

I’m sure you really enjoy getting people’s advice on what you should do for a vehicle. I explore the forestry roads of the PNW in a Ford Ranger truck with a canopy. For camping you wouldn’t be able to stand, but you could sit up. Anyway, lovely to see you close to my stomping grounds.

I love the way you take ordinary views and transform them. But more than that, you describe the situation as being therapeutic. For me, photographers don't have to learn to meditate in the traditional way because looking as closely as you do, spending time, and being company among the plants, is probably the best route to peace available to the human species. Well done Adam, and don't be embarrassed with your van, it's not important - to walk, hire a bicycle, or ride in a Preuss; just tell your guest it's a programme of self-improvement that you have, to teach them patience.

Having worked in a camera store for over two decades I can recommend to your friend a less costly fix to his close-up problem, a 2 element close up lens Number 5T from Nikon (screws on like a filter). It's 62 mm so he might have to use a stepping ring. He'll have to look at places that sell used gear, like eBay (where I sold my 62mm one). Canon made one but I never tested it so don't know how good it might be.

Sorry to hear about the van breaking . Glad you were covered . Getting the greens correct without making it looking artificial is what stands out for me . BTW, can you educate us on how do you keep yourself safe from animals while shooting these episodes in the midst of such thick forests ?
@QuietLightPhoto

To be honest there are more dangers walking down the street than in a forest. Most animals are not predators except for perhaps cougars.

Too bad about the van troubles. The Olympic National Park is beautiful. We have over 3000 waterfalls in Washington State. The popular ones aren’t always the nicest but they have a combination of being nice and getting to them is easy enough that most people can do it. If you get to The Hall of Mosses, I would like to see what you get for images there.

I always thought a Ford Transit would make a good camper van. I’m not sure whether the road clearance would be adequate for your purposes, but they’re not expensive and come in a variety of sizes and configurations. Mercedes makes a similar van, but the cost of parts and service would be a deal breaker for me. Good luck.
