Best way to fry the optics of your phone is to use it during an eclipse without any protection on the lens. If looking directly at the sun will burn your retina, using your phone to do so will damage the image sensor. Cover it with one of the eclipse glasses lens and switch to forward facing camera so you don’t run the risk of accidentally looking at the eclipse unprotected. Or better still….use a pinhole camera and video the image from that. Or, put your damn phone down and just enjoy the moment. Chances are any pic you take with your phone will be crap anyway.

bad tutorial...if u wearing the solar eclipse glass to protect your eye, u won't be able to see your phone to take picture or adjust brightness....so how do you take a picture?

I'm a photographer. He is incorrect. The photo is actually shot with an ultra zoom like 500mm lens while your phone is 35mm lens

I taped a 12" diameter piece of cardboard to the back of my smartphone so I can look at the sun with the phone, without accidentally getting a flash of sunlight in my eyes. It looks weird but it works. I also taped a lens from one of those eclipse glasses over the lens of my phone so it cuts down the 'glare' to such a degree that the camera can actually 'see' the sun, and not just give a photo with nothing but white glare.

CAMERAS have light sensors, if your sensors are not made to look at the sun, i bet ur camera might kick d bucket. I once lost my Panasonic m3500 by pointing d lens directly to the sun unknowingly.
