The A team is: Two Sony A7iii with Rokinon 85mm 1,4 and the other one with the Tamron 17-28 f2,8.... BUT... i also carry Tamron 28-75, Nikon D800 with the 70-200 2,8, 105 Macro, etc, etc..... every wedding i go with a HUGE amount of gear.... i need to improve that, so i love the idea of going with just 2 primes and that´s it ...... Great Video Teppo !!

Pretty much 35mm and 85mm lense is the standard set up for prime duo bodies set up, and lenses to the addition is a plus!! I am using Nikon D850 and Z6 with adapter with Tamron g2 series 35mm and 85mm, plus the 24-70 g2 and 70-200 g2, as backup and wider angle and longer reach.

I felt wrong to even charge them money 🤣 however if you'd like to see my shoots I can share them... If I had the luxury to get myself a 35mm or 50mm I'll glad just give away the 55-200mm 🤣

dude the "lazy" argument for zoom lenses is stupid for wedding photography. The couples care about you capturing the moment they dont give a fuck whether you were standing 10 metres away and zoomed in to get "the shot" or whether you moved up to be 2 metres away to get essentially the exact same shot. Its not lazy, its just being practical and dropping your ego. Clients dont know or care what lenses or focal length you are shooting on. If the photo looks nice and captures a great moment. thats all that matters (and obviously I know you know that, but just putting it in to back the argument up). But for that reason, thats why I shoot the RF 28-70mm f 2.0. You dont even really lose out that much on the aperture.
@TeppoHaapoja4 жыл бұрын
You didnt quite get my point. Standing 50 meters away, then zooming in doesnt change your perspective. Shooting with primes forces u to move and diverisfy the perspective of your shots :) But like I said, whatever gear works for your workflow, works

First wedding I shot I got awesome images for a friend with a 60mm macro lens on aps-c so - yeah I've been on the prime ride. That's close enough to an 85mm prime as makes no odds - but slower. Now I've got the zooms and a few primes and full frame. I shoot dance, events and even sports and the light is always terrible. 70-200 f/4 (the f/2.8 is great too - just heavier) handles nearly everything but a 50mm f/1.4 or a 35mm f/1.4 would be my best complementary lens to that for a wedding. Those 2 lenses are 90% there. What's missing is the 100mm f/2.8 macro IS - jewellery, detail, close-ups - all a part of the story in a collage.
@desertbornproductions3 жыл бұрын
Great Video. Do you use 1.4 apertures for group shots in lower light? If the people are not all same distance away from camera doesn't it cause some out of focus subjects, even with 35mm? Thanks
@jamesmlodynia875712 күн бұрын
When you say you can photograph a wedding with two prime lens do you have a second photographer, jf so then your actually using more than two and if you are the only one covering the wedding, using two prime lens and one malfunctions your screwed. My wife's daughter got married, two photographers were hired to cover the event, only one showed, the end result was not good, many of the photos that were taken were large groups in doors and because his wide lens was not wide enough, people's body parts were missing in the photos. I photographed different events for several years, i had a full time job so photography was not how I earned a living, i photographed events for people on a budget that could not afford a professional photographer, that being said i still had a variety of prime and zoom lens that would handle any shooting situation. Their were times when a 35mm was not wide enough and an 85 not long enough, so for those looking to get involved in event photography make shure you have the proper equipment, know how to use it in different lighting conditions and carry insurance as most venues require it to photograph an event.

I shot a wedding video (on my channel if anyone is curious) with 2 super cheap Lumix GX85 cameras, with a Sigma 30mm (60mm equiv.) F/1.4 and a Sigma 56mm (112mm equiv.) F/1.4! By shooting with primes, I tricked some people into thinking I was using a high end bokeh-licious full frame camera. Ended up making back more than the cost of one of those bodies in one video project, with the couple and their families were really happy with the outcome! I'm saving up for a Lumix G9 now!

There are just more reasons to use zoom lens other than “being lazy”. When you use wide lenses like 24, 35 to shoot a group of people, you don’t shoot 1.4, so it looses the benefit, of course if you want to, you have the option. But what I want to say is it is really no point to talk down about using zoom lens. I know a lot of famous photographers being shooting weddings with zoom lenses, and their work are amazing!
@OlegFedo4 жыл бұрын
I personally believe that prime lenses aren't good for reportage shoots during weddings. Yes, primes are more faster than zooms and they have better bokeh, BUT... these days ISO is powerful enough to work with 2.8 or 4 F-stops in low light conditions and what's more valuable in zooms is the fact that working with zooms you will get more genuine emotions shots because shooting process is much faster than with zooms and what's even more important IT'S more discreet.

Weight for two cameras with 45mm f/2.5 and a 110mm f/2.0 is 3050 grams. Your Canon outfit is 3805 grams! The Fuji handles pretty fast, though the autofocus isn't as good as Canon's.

When I first started shooting weddings for a photographic studio, I was supplied with a medium format camera with a normal lens. Shot many weddings with just one lens, a flash unit, and an assistant. When I started shooting weddings for myself, I used two medium format cameras with a normal lens, a wide lens, and a telephoto lens. When I started shooting digital weddings, I used two Nikon SLRs with 35mm f/2, 85mm f/1.8, and 180mm f/2.8 Nikon manual focus lenses. Later, I upgraded and used 35mm f/1.4, 85mm f/1.4, and 180mm f/2.8 Nikon lenses. The 85mm f/1.4 was the only auto focus. For backup, I had an extra Nikon digital SLR body with three Nikon auto focus zoom lenses (14-24mm f/2.8, 28-70mm f/2.8, and 80-200mm f/2.8). I also carried a 105mm f/2.8 Nikon macro for close-ups and tight portraits.

Ha, can I really get away with only a 35mm and 85mm prime? No nifty fifty? What about us people who are investing in the RF lenses? First, I'm getting the 85/35 combo, the RF f/1.2 versions. The RF 35mm 1.2 is coming soon. I can't afford two bodies though, one R5 is already going to cost enough. I imagine it would help to have the new RF 15-35mm along with the new RF 70-200mm with a 1.4x extender perhaps. There's no blue refractive optics in the RF 50mm f/1.2 so I'm skipping that, but do you think it's important to pick up the upcoming RF 50mm 1.8 macro? It might come in handy. Also, what I would really like to have one day is a nice telephoto prime lens. The 200mm f/2.L IS USM lens, there's nothing like that on the RF system yet. But if you have six grand, lol, the 200mm f/2 probably blows away the 85mm you are using. Lol. The portraits that lens can take are magical. I think it might be the best ever portrait lens.

I feel like with so many different ways to shoot a wedding or event, it is hard to decide on what we want. It is all about personal taste in photos (unless the lighting or space cause you to require a specific lens). On one hand the primes give the great shallow depth. On the other hand a nice zoom means you could use one body (with a backup put away if you need it) and just have the camera in your hand with no additional things to hold you back from getting in some flexing positions.

My recent weddings have been shot with two Fuji X mirrorless bodies with Fuji 16-55mm f/2.8, Fuji 50-140mm f/2.8, and Zeiss 12mm f/2.8 lenses. All auto focus. For backup or video, I have an extra Fuji X mirrorless body with 16mm f/1.4, 23mm f/1.4, and 56mm f/1.2 Fuji lenses plus a 12mm Rokinon lens. All, except the Rokinon, are auto focus.

DnAydin depends what you consider worth the quality. Considering I’ve had my straps for 5 years & used them over 1500 hours with no sign of wear it actually makes them pretty inexpensive when you consider the upfront cost & long term use.

Totally worth it, too many crappy straps on the market. It's like asking if a Sonos speaker is worth the price. If you have to ask, don't bother :) You probably won't know what you're missing anyway.

Thanks man. At first, I was like... "you look different" but then I realised that you must be a brother of Matti :). Yes, prime lenses are absolutely the best! Best of luck!

I love the fact that you put your style and image quality first rather then ticking all the boxes and having a jack of all trade zoom combo! That’s brave.

They're different, no need for comparison! They're both producing awesome content anyways, so why bother? 👏 Wonderful work Teppo, as usual. Keep rocking those camera straps ! 😛

Hey man, I am a teen and starting a new photography career. I shoot on sony APSC, what focal lengths or/and lenses do you recommend? Thank you so much, subscribed with notifications.

Sigma makes really good glass for those crop bodies. I have a 16mm 1.4 which is honestly better than a lot of my full frame lenses. (It's an equivalent to a 24mm Feild if view). I would maybe go with a super fast 50-55mm lens intended for crop that has decent autofocus I'd definitely look at the Sigma 56mm f1.4 DC DN lens. It's great in low light, gives an equivalent image to a full frame 85mm f2.1 with autofocus and maybe the 16mm or the 30mm would pair nicely. If you are looking to stick with primes for you a6xxx series camera. (I have had good results with my 18-105mm f4, but it's not good if you need a shallow depth of field) .

@@Hi-yt4lr That sigma 16mm is a beast! I have it and the 56mm for my sony aps-c. I rarely use anything other than those two lenses.

The one time where I would have preferred zoom lenses is when I shot at a church that had very restricted rules about where the photographer could stand so I was limited with where I could be and how much zooming with my feet I could do. Luckily I did have zoom lenses at that time but if I didn't I may not have been able to get some of the shots I did.
