Does part 2 explain what the different shooting modes do? and which one is best for sports. I've heard, that Burst is better for sports, while others say Manual is only for advanced photographers? What is the best shooting mode for youth soccer shooting?

It took until today for me to finally grasp Manuel 👊! Thank you!! This doesn't just apply to sports because what you just explained is allowing a newbie to finally feel like they can take their 1st step and grasp understanding of these 3 settings and how they effect each other and work together. Sports is needing a fast shutter and when you don't need it so fast for landscapes and nature you just move everything in the way that it should go keeping in mind how they may effect the other avoiding blur/noise/under or over exposure and understanding bokah

Great video Rob, well explained for people who are starting out. The one tip I would add is not to be afraid of using auto ISO. I set the shutter speed and aperture, but I let the camera pick the ISO. In sports photography (especially outdoors), the lighting conditions are constantly changing and the last thing I want to think about is settings, but rather focus on the action. If it's indoors like basketball, then the lighting should remain pretty much constant and in that case I'll set the ISO manually. Anyway! Great video, keep up the great work.

Indoor basketball is so hard to shoot. The lighting is extremely low in some gyms. I finally got a 50mm f 1.8 lens and that’s helping a lot! The iso is mostly at 1600 or 3200 so it’s always grainy but the denoise bar in photoshop helps a lot.

My biggest challenge is noise in my basketball pictures. I'm running a 1Dx and 24-70 f/2.8 II, 1/1000, f/2.8 and auto ISO. The ISO ends up in the 4000-6000 range. I'm a hobbyist, taking pictures of my boys' high school sports (cross country, American football, basketball and track), so I don't want to have to buy a software subscription to edit and store my pictures. So, my question is this: do I just deal with the noise (I'm toying with RawTherapee, I have access to photoshop elements, and maybe I'll buy a denoise program like topaz) or should I manually lower the ISO to hopefully reduce noise, then adjust the exposure in post?

Hi Rob, great video again. And thanks for your efforts. I know how much time you need to spend to create this content. Originally I’m coming from analog photography. So ISO/Aperture/Speed I had to learn the hard way (after one week the film was developed and no chance to redo the pictures). I even had to do manual light measuring in the snow, because the automatic was not trustworthy. What I found interesting is that younger people have troubles with the theory because I think especially the ISO (which is the sensitivity of a analog film) doesn‘t make sense on a digital camera. I will share your video with some beginners, so hopefully it will help them.
@RobSambles5 жыл бұрын
Thank you I appreciate the support as always. It's interesting hearing the view of someone who's come from shooting film. I did shoot film for fun when I was younger, but never with anything too serious.
