Thanks Rob from down here in New Zealand, Finally found a guy who speaks proper English that I can understand. I have 2 X 1DX cameras down here and have tried assorts of things trying to cover good old club rugby here with most our area teams playing this year as we have got good control over the Covid virus here thank god ! I have just found your site here and subscribed to it. I'll sort my cameras out with what you've recommend here and continue to have a look at the other ones you have here. Well done ........ Thanks MATE

I am not a sports person but my job requires me to take shots during sports tournaments. Your videos helped me. I am more of a studio type of person so this is out of my comfort zone. Watching this, I might be able to prepare myself for an incoming 4-day golf tournament 🙂

Thank you for all the information. Now I just have to figure out the settings from your Cannon to my Nikon, as I am still learning what each setting represents. I was completely confused the first time someone started talking about "noise" on the camera settings. I watched part 1 and really enjoyed it. You made it easy for me, a beginner to follow.

Great follow up video. Part 1 and your back button focus video were the reasons I found your channel. I use the same settings on my Nikon camera for sports. Great tip on the time. I was going through my menus this week looking for something and found my time off. So important to have that correct.

Great suggestions in both your videos on this. Thank you! I’m getting up to change my time settings right now. Bitten me more than once just doing my own editing 😔

Great stuff! I find with ice hockey, especially photographing the goalie as I do, I set my AF to be towards the top of the screen so I get his face in focus and get more of the ice in the shot (or the shooter’s stick) vice more of the crowd since the puck is primarily coming from the bottom of the screen. I’m also shooting in RAW and fixing the WB in post since every rink seems to be a bit different. If I shoot JPG I’ll do a custom WB. The rinks where my son plays don’t have any LED advertisement lights messing up areas of the rink. Great tip on the time/date since I’ll start using two cameras this weekend and would be helpful if they download and organize by the time they were taken so they are in the proper order!

I have the 1-D X Mark III and I’m still trying to learn it. I can’t figure out how to set it to a single point focus. I have a Canon 70-200mm lens attached. Please advise.

Thanks so much!! I shoot kids at our Takwando school and your tips/ tricks here certainly help to improve my photos!! One question, when we use the multiple shoots setting, what you do to improve your efficiency when having to select the photos & also getting them out of the card when you still have to continue shooting. I find I spend so much time going through the photos to select them, much more time than editing the photo. For an hour event with 20 kids, I ended up having about 1,500 - 1,800 photos!! TIA!!

Hi Rob: on 1dx mkii Case 2 will stick to the subject.But to go to a new subject it takes awhile. Case 3 I find that the camera will find the closet subject to the lens.Case 5and 6 I never use.My preference is Case 4.
@RobSambles4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing. I need to do some proper testing with the cases at some point

Hi Rob: I think Case 5 and 6,is asking more from camera than what it is designed for.Also AI Servo 1st and 2nd image priority I keep at 0.The camera is real good.Just my opinion.

These videos were very helpful. Can you do a video discussing positioning during sports photography-specifically indoor basketball. I understand the settings however, my images are average. I would like more instruction on technique. Thank you

What's better to use for outdoor sports Auto White balance or a Manual White balance? Which is better to use if the team is playing in a dominant color, such as yellow or blue, or red? How to stop a color cast?
@RobSambles3 жыл бұрын
Auto WB will see you through most of those situations but you might need to process images slightly in post

Lol, I just watched prt 1 last night Another question, photoshop or lightroom? For a beginner. I don't currently have either one so I'm not sure which one is better 👍
@photohuck4 жыл бұрын
If you subscribe to the Adobe Photography Plan, you get both in the subscription. Just depends what you want to do. Lightroom is a great tool to help organize and catalog your photos, along with some editing tools. If you need to really manipulate a photo (remove background, objects etc..) photoshop is really where you need to be.
@RobSambles4 жыл бұрын
I use a bit of both but you could survive with just Lightroom 100%. Its fantastic and does everything you need.
