Apart from the content which is always excellent, I like the fact that you're not trying to sell anything. Your videos and enthusiasm clearly demonstrate your love of photography.

There isn't anyone else on KZbin that could have created a video of this quality. Thank you for all the information you have given me, and the understanding with that information.
@JohnDoe-fo9ri7 жыл бұрын
Hey Ted, I've just come across your channel and I find it simply astounding. There are thousands and thousands of GB uploaded to KZbin talking about camera models, lenses, techniques, but you focus on what really matters when it comes to photography--and always with a very elegant, deep and yet accessible style. Great, great job.

Wow, this is probably my favourite episode ever! It's very helpful to compare different photographers this way, it's illuminating on several different levels. I hope you'll do other episodes like this every now and then.

Incredible episode. To say this way long winded and weird is underselling yourself entirely! This was a great example of the deep, inspiring love and interest you have for photography that is self evident in your videos. The ending was incredibly insightful as well. At the end you talked about sharing things with your viewers and it's the best description of what you do, you share the knowledge you have about these topics with your viewers simply because it interests you and it really shows through. Enough gushing! Keep it up, Ted!

Ted after buying stuff (photo gear) and after gaining some technical competence (working that gear to make an image) and after seeing light (now we are getting somewhere) and after starting with darkness and becoming a sculpture with light we are here with your “Photograph Interpretations” Ted. What expressions do I have? What courage do I have? What is inside me to get up and want to make an image with my voice? I think back to your effort on photographing the denizens of your building. You were searching for your interpretation of these denizens and time swallowed you whole before you made it happen. This is it, can we find what we love and are willing to act now on it. This is really the philosophical foundations of being an image artist discussion. It is like nectar from the GODS!!!! Keep it up Ted.

Well like my portrait project we all have limits of time and what's possible. I'll do the project when I can get an open slot to do it. Portraits require a LOT of scheduling when I'm doing that many. The key is do what you can, do it the best you can with what you have and do it now! In fairness all of the photographers in this video make time to do it. They're not making 3 videos for KZbin every week ;-) Not an excuse, just saying I'll get to it eventually!

RE: finding your style I have been shooting for 30+ years and I'm still searching for mine. I spent far too long mimicking other photographers styles, and adhering to The Rules. Just recently I've started experimenting outside the box a bit more and I'm sure my preferred style will come to light soon. I love how you left in the blooper at the end of the video. That imperfection ironically made a perfect ending.

Another really informative and inspiring episode - thank you very much for this great work, Ted! I appreciate you wrote down the name of Martin Munkácsi with the original accentuated "a" in Munkácsi. Subtle thing, but being a Hungarian myself as well, I do appreciate this kind of attention and authenticity. It's always a pleasure and honor to see the new episodes of AOP show. Thanks again.

note on the side.... I'd love to see a comparison between Sugimoto's 'beyond infinity' and an unfocused photography. Probably one of the first things I'd try if I ever start large format photography.

Great episode. I imagine you could do one these every 3 months and never have a duplicate. Comparatives are an excellent way to break down the creative process because it highlights the individual style of each photographer when you use a common subject matter. Nicely done.

Dear Ted, Today again :-) I have been so lucky to have learned from you how to look, and how to see, through the cameras of great photographers! Before I get to thinking about a style for myself, I rather first learn and study THE styles of some greatest photographers. Thank you for being my guide in this SO interesting and addicting serious hobby of photography - my new world :-). Please keep doing this ... I love your style of teaching :-)

Very educative video! It is always refreshening to learn about the artistic side, it is so much more than the many technical reviews (which have their niche too, no doubt). Nice "mix" of various photographers, especially that not-so-popular artists were included too. Your deep, humble understanding of photography also shines through and speaks for itself. Thank you, Ted!

Well, it's a valid business model to sell t-shirts, mugs and other stuff like that. It's cheesy, true, but if it works for somebody, if it's something they do, good for them. I'm happy The Art of Photography isn't following that pattern though.

I have the beautiful two volumes in my library, but, I wrote it earlier, apart from some cloud studies, I really would like so much you view on it, since I don't get the point with his work and importance, and I really would like to see the point! Thanks for another inspiring video, Ted.

Another interesting episode! Thank you Ted. Some random thoughts that sprung to mind while watching this episode: Could we state that in fine art photography style and form (sometimes) are more important than content? To become a known photographer, do you have to come up with a style and than stick with that for the sake of being recognizable, so everyone can say: This is a typical Hiroshi Sugimoto for instance? I guess this is how it works in many artforms, but it is kinda limiting isn't it? Also, as time goes by the number of "available new styles" decreases, since everything (or at least many things) has been done before, something that couldn't be said for photographers 50 years ago...

The Images only look interesting because of the low quality lens used. Prob a very expensive lens in it's day. Compositions are good too.Take the same image with a pin sharp lens and this well not have the same impact. Older lens age gracefully. Squarer formats also work well compared to 35mm. Black and white in my opinion also take you back in time, unlike modern day hdr photos.

The Art of Photography I've seen "A Fragile Life" shortly after I started getting into photography and "Photographs" a bit later. If you have them available, both are excellent books to show.
