True story, I went to a parking garage on a day it was closed and literally snuck in and went up to the highest floor to shoot from the roof. I was waiting for my model thinking no one else was there. After 10 minutes of totally being in my own world and just taking shots of the street below as I waited, a security guard approached me and he screamed over to me "what are you doing up here, please back away from the edge!" I was thinking, I'm trouble, just snuck in here, but he was like, please back up and come towards me. I realized in that moment he thought I was trying to jump off the roof. OMG! I was like, oh, oh no, I'm just shooting down at the ground, not going to jump sir! When I went over to him, I was seriously explaining, just a photographer waiting to shoot some shots, but he explained to me that I needed to leave because apparently a person had actually jumped the month before and he didn't want that to happen again. Now I can't ever pass by that garage without thinking about that.

i think it so easy for us to just look passed places because we’re looking for the best location or the perfect one and without realizing we could have passed several beautiful places!

At first I said, “She has got to be kidding”. But as I watched you create beauty in these challenging locations, I was definitely impressed. You are more than a photographer. You are a true artist. I am still trying to wrap my brain around that trash can location though :)

I live pretty close to Detroit and have done several of these things (and I'm trying to figure out where these places are). I also lived across the parking lot from a water reclamation plant with like three trees between me and the sunrise every morning... I just shot the trees and plant in silhouette, and boom. beautiful sunrise.

My question is: do you drive around with the model to find locations, or do you do that on your own ahead of time? OR, do you happen to pass by these locations on your way to other things and make a note of them? Is it a combination of everything? 😅

So true Jessica, all in the eye of the beholder, even graffiti is popular, old warehouses, etc. With lighting you can do just about anything. Just a point/suggestion, the ring light is duplicated in your eyes and also your glasses, just a little distracting, maybe a softbox may work better off to the side which will will not reflect directly back into the camera. Keep up the natural style you bring to the story. Cheers I have a suggestion, in front of your wardrobe! Lol

Love the tips. But here I’m Brazil it’s very stressful to take photos at place like that, because most of time they don’t allow take the photos if you are using to a job or campaign. In Most of the places you have to pay for using the location, like parks or parking lot, and it’s very expensive

Anyone else notice how that "Face AI" Filter changed the skin and eyecolour of the asian model? They have blue-ish eyes in the "After" and their skin now almost looks like they're white. In what world is that a "natural improvement" to a face? Unless someone SPECIFICALLY wants their skin lightened or their eyes changed, of course... but than that is a deliberate change from what is naturally given to that person. A "natural improvement" would be to brighten the eyes up, not straight up make them another colour!?!

Does anyone have any tips for shooting against a blue sky??? Every time I try, the sky is either blown out or my model is extremely dark...
@kathrynwilkins29254 жыл бұрын
Try bracketing your shots and exposure stacking in post, or you can take a pic of just the sky/background, meter accordingly and blend it in in post. Look for tutorials on masking, compositing and exposure stacking and that will help a lot. Otherwise if you're not quite there yet skill wise, try exposing between the sky and subject and use shadows and highlights sliders in your editing apps. Some even allow you to provide local (selected area) adjustments. Lightroom CC is a great option if you're pretty fresh to editing. Edit: forgot the easiest option, use fill flash or even a wide beam flashlight with a diffuser to light up your model. Even a reflector will help!
