I have been getting tips from you for years Terry. You are a big help. The only thing I missed, or you didn't say is how to edit the generative choice after closing it and working on other layers. I figured it out, but it is new and many others might have a problem too. If you double-click the generative MASK, then on the dialogue box, In Properties click the far, top/left icon "Generative Layer" and the samples will pop up. I hope I helped someone,

I think the real power of this new feature, is how it will help photographers to look at their compositions in a different way. When you’re out in the real world looking at the potential images, you can say to yourself, “it’s a great composition, but what if…”. What if I need to remove something, or expand something, or add something. In other words, don’t walk away from a potentially great image because ‘something was missing’. Now you can ask yourself ‘what if’ and remain excited about it.

The new generative fill is amazing to be sure, and is a game changer. But I thought I would share our experience so far with the Beta release, and that is that the generative fill doesn't seem to work well at all with artwork. It works well for photos, but it's as if it doesn't have enough reference to know what to do with artwork. When trying to clean up edges, extend edges for gallery wrapped canvas and other cleanup work, Generative AI seems to fall down with artwork where it normally does well with the same subject matter in photography. We continue to experiment though, and we're running the Beta and trying these new things out with mixed success, but as these tools progress, daily work will get much easier.

If you have an image inside a restaurant at night shot through a picture window can you add a wet NYC street reflection appearing off the glass? With rain drops?

Terry I notice Generative Fill is quite slow right now. It's amazing, but still slow. Do you have any tips yet for what it may want to see to speed it up? Faster internet connection, faster CPU, faster GPU, more memory, etc? Thanks, just trying to get a handle on what may help to speed this fantastic tool up!

Great stuff - wonder if you find whether removing the background is better than only selecting the background when you getting ready to replace it? Also are you aware if selecting one of the 3 generated versions has any influence on the next generative fills? for example u may like shirt eneration number 1 but does eleting others or selecting that number 1 help the AI to decide which direction to go in ? thanks so much for sharing your tests and info!

Hi Terry, great video. I really liked this new feature when I played with it in firefly. I currently have the photography plan with creative cloud app in win 11. However, when I downloaded the beta app it didn't play nice with my regular PS which kept crashing at odd times using no particular tool or plugin. The recovery worked each time but it was slowing my work.. I uninstalled it as well as currrent PS and then reinstalled current PS. I restarted computer and it now crashes less frequently. All this happened after installing the beta. Is there some problem with win 11 and the beta app? I have an intel i9 cpu and a Nvidia RTX 3060 ti graphics card. Also 36 GB memory. I looked at task manager before each crash and the program used a 80% of memory. Any ideas? Thanks

Terry could you address the fact that this option does not appear to work with older macs, this is a first for me to see some of the features not working and how that can be justified seeing as we all pay the same price for the creative cloud suit? Thanks

New features sometimes come with new system requirements. That’s just a fact of engineering and has always been that way. I’m sorry that you’re being impacted by this. Apple does this too with it’s operating systems and software.

Hi Terry, can you please answer a question. There’s a lot of information going around about generative fill in Photoshop beta. That we are only allowed to use it for personal use only? Is this true? And will it change if it’s out a beta version. The next question is there saying in Firefly if you generate something in firefly then it belongs to firefly and that image and they can use it whatever they want to is that ever going to be for commercial use once it’s at beta…thank you, I’m in the process of watching the almost 8 hour video on photoshop beta and firefly….thank you for you help

Yes it’s true that while it’s in beta it is NOT for commercial use. Once out of beta you WILL be able to use it for commercial use at a higher resolution as well. The second question is NOT true.

But is it your content and property if it uses your image as the generative fill? The overlap you described for sampling. Isn't that your content? Using your own pixels? Not sourced from photopstock.

As a professional Ai in photoshop is great but the Ai fill filter is utter trash. I'm sure it will improve but man it FAILS with real-world jobs.
