p.s. secret new site launching July 15th that will take over for Patreon - www.taylorjacksoncourses.com/members First 100 people get in on a founding member rate of $6.50 per month of you go annually. I'll be cross posting Patreon content in both places for a few months, but the new site solves a lot of issues. #1 being organization of content. Back content will be way easier to find. #2 billing was always weird with Patreon. If you signed up on the 28th of a month, it would bill you again on the 1st. No longer. I also have a lot of new ways to create content on the new site now. Hope you'll join me over there. Will be publicly announced on my birthday (July 14th)

“Shift to the long game” exactly! I process my own, but yes it’s a completely different thing. It seems easier to focus on the important and let go of the trivial. Every artist needs to be continually creating something just for themself.

Summer 2000 I went to Alaska, 35 days and about 50 rolls of film. Still some of my favorite photos along with some slides from Yosemite in 2002.

Thank you for the video, I have a romantic soft spot for film but I'm not at the level where I understand the ins and outs yet. Crazy as it may sound, I am a beginner photographer who decided to step into this hobby in the midst of a pandemic. I bought a Fuji X-T4 a week ago and haven't even had the chance to take it out yet. All I do is take photos from the window of the floor I live in, and test the camera in various light conditions and at different focal length. The way I look at it, I'm using the time to get to know the camera, and when I'll be able to shoot, I'll feel right at home. Keep well and stay safe.

Great video! Your comments on film being slower and not instant are exactly how I treat my digital photography. I can't just offload and post when I take photos...I have to wait until I get home to plug in the SD card. I don't manipulate or color my photos...I just leave them as is. I think it's a relaxing process for me the same way film is for you. It's still stressful, but I enjoy looking back later. I hope to enjoy photography again someday, as well as video-making, because in the past few months, I've lost all drive to move forward.

This hit me in the feels real hard... I always wondered why it's been so hard to create and be creative and you answered it. "Only a few friends and family members support my career as a photographer. And if I stopped taking photos forever, very few of them would care." I felt that so hard...

i did stop for a few years, and nobody noticed.... it is so true.... picked shooting back up a few month ago.... its an outlet for me, no matter, if others notice or not

@@aleksis1808 I think we forget to do photography for ourselves. I've struggled with since I made this comment three years ago. 😅I've only recently come to terms and realized what I want to do for my self.

I was lucky enough to find you recently and saw some of your KZbin videos. And every time I see your videos, I feel like I get to know you more like an old friend. My plan is to see all of your KZbin videos during this BS lockdown. My mother couldn't keep me away from what I wanted to do, and surely the government can't make me stay inside and wear a mask when I want to go out! This particular video made me think and touched me enough to make me do what I need to do. I do have 35mm and 645 film cameras, but my problem is the lack of desirable subjects to shoot. I don't want to just waste films on somethings that do not make me happy. Wild nature makes me happy, especially mountains. California is too far, so maybe I should visit Canada!!! Keep up the great work and maybe in the near future, we can meet up and hang out!

Saw the title and hoped for a 'classic Taylor Jackson' video... I was not disappointed! Thankyou for your honesty and all that you do. It's kind of a relief to hear you've lost motivation lately to be honest... I was starting to feel like I was the only one. But I'm also shooting my first roll of film in years and can't wait to see how it turns out. You've also inspired me to take portraits of the people that matter to me, so thankyou for the push I needed to love photography again!

I was just getting ready to jump to the Z-series and the excitement of using mirrorless and that was all put on hold bc of this and I lost the drive to do anything with my reg D750. Also having no one to watch my 4yo while I go out, cut into that too. It seems like groundhog day, wake up, go to sleep. Everything blending in an endless cycle. Maybe I'll go out and just do a whole thing of Monochrome pictures and go back to how I started. Inspiration from Your video.

Hi Taylor Jackson. I want to buy a camera to use to photograph weddings and events Which camera would you say it’s best to buy??
@johnmcpherson68004 жыл бұрын
My friend whom has some many film cameras lent me a Canon AE-1 and recently a Rolleicord medium format. It's definitely a different process and I find it amazing because I need to think differently about the subject. You basically get 1 or 2 shots and then you move on. I'm definitely going to buy a film camera in the near future.

I've been able to borrow my friend's camera before this lockdown in the Philippines happened. I keep myself busy taking photos of my nephews and nieces which are very cute and challenging at the same time. Also, I wake up in the morning just to catch a hummingbird right next to our small garden, which until now I can't take a shot of. Simple things like that keeps the creative side of me, I just want to share it because why not? Hahahahaha I also borrowed my cousin's film camera, but I haven't use it yet, for the 35mm film here in the Philippines is expensive for me to afford as a student. Hahahahaha just sharing my thoughts. Thank you for the words of wisdom, good Sir Taylor. Thank you for the motivation.

I'm 18 now, pretty much on the point where I kinda decide what I want. Photography is a huge hobby of mine, and I thought It was something I could see myself doing as a job. I don't really know why, but you convinced me to not do this, and to just keep it as a passion.

That’s super important - I’m happy for you. I did make the leap into wedding photography, and while I don’t regret it, there’s a lot of pressure that comes with making a business out of it...a lot of pressure that often causes more stress than actual happiness and contentment. That isn’t to say I don’t love doing it, but I’ve also realized recently that I don’t want to go full time with it. It’s all about self awareness. This video has motivated me to get a simple film camera and start photographing the things around me more intentionally. To get back to doing things simply.

It’s a Nikon F3. You can take the top viewfinder off, or replace it with a waist veiwfinder (DW-3). Only trick is that everything is mirrored. So left is right, and right is left.

There are more opportunities than ever before with every business directing significant budgets at their online presence. Weddings will be different now, but people will still be getting married
@shutterbugphotography78634 жыл бұрын
@@TaylorJacksonPhoto I'm heading towards some other field altogether... After doing photography as a profession it lost it's charm for me... Moreover, no one actually cares to watch your work.. if you do anything other than weddings you've a larger audience who is actively looking forward to your work... People only watch weddings when they are planing to get married...otherwise it's just other photographers who are watching your work.. like no matter how great the production quality is, people are more interested in watching a roast than a wedding film... And all bridezilla moments do suck..only a few people appreciate your art, but when you're doing it as a profession you cannot say no to a job and you'd still do it and hate yourself throughout the process..

No thanks with returning back to film. I had fun with my F3, F4 and F5 back in the day but digital is way more fun and satisfying. I shoot digital like I did film in that I stay away from post processing and work on getting it right in camera. Post processing takes the fun out of it for me at least. Good luck with finding your mojo again.
