Hey there! There were some questions about what gear we used to capture the audio, and in case I missed some, here’s more info: For vocals, a Shure BETA 87A Microphone directly into a Roland AC-40 Amp. The beat you can hear was made by Marv Ellis, and is a pre-recorded loop playing on a Boss RC-300 Loop machine, which also runs to the Roland Amp. We then ran the Roland amp stereo output to one of his cameras. Meanwhile, the electric upright bass was run into a MarkBass Amp, which was run into a separate camera. (@PhotoJoseph correct me if I missed something!) We kept it simple intentionally to abide by Covid distancing rules and I think that helped us get such a clean, full mix with minimal equipment! I also love performing through the Roland AC-40; I use a little bit of the built-in reverb and it always goes down smooth. Thanks for the love!

Great tutorial. Thanks for the going the extra mile. I think you could convert the stream edit into compound clips in FCPX, then swap out the broadcast clips with the hi-res log files. The power of compound clips in FCPX! Don’t you find the color control frustrating in FCPX compared to Resolve? Also Resolve gives you fairlight, so no roundtripping to Logic etc to sweeten audio.
@photojoseph3 жыл бұрын
Compound clips… so let's see, if you separately make a compound clip with the offline/online versions of the video, and synced those… then manually replaced the Multicam clip with that… yeah that'd work, but you'd have to manually place it in sync. But yes, it should work. As to color control - I only know Resolve's color on a cursory level, and I find it very confusing, but that's only because I don't know it. I won't argue that it's amazing. It is! But also I find FCP does what I need. Fairlight is great too, no doubt. I also do all of my audio enhancement in FCP with the aid of a noise reduction plugin, and that works for me. I'm not willing to give up the editing style of FCP. I love it, and work fast in it. Resolve is great - but I know and love FCP.

hey, great video! could you talk how you recorded her voice and the instrument which such good quality directly into the livestream?
@photojoseph4 жыл бұрын
thanks! So, she had her own gear for the audio which I don’t know anything about. She set it all up. But she gave me two feeds - one for her bass and one for her voice + backing track. (I should have brought the backing track in on a separate channel but her hardware wasn’t set up for that). I fed each of those feeds into two of my cameras via XLR connections using Panasonic XLR1 adapters. On the ATEM I adjusted levels so they sounded right to me, which is what you heard in the “live” portion of this video. Then for the final version of her song at the end of my video, I further adjusted levels and added a limiter, which the way I use it is also a compressor, but the adjustments were very minor from what we recorded live. Really 99% of the processing was done before it got to me. If you want to know what effects or processing she added to her voice or bass, then I can ask her to comment here.

Holy smokes!!! I am blown away, this is one heck of a demo on the ATEM MINI pro ISO.... So many questions... but in fairness to your time, there's 2 that screams out in my head. 1) in watching the xml file created for FCX, I didn't see an option to create one for Adobe Premiere Pro? Was it that there was no option to create it from the ATEM? 2) If you did the livestream in Facebook Live, or Twitch are there any steps that need to be alter significantly in either the set up or the workflow when streaming? Also, I loved how you even anticipate the question about selling or trading old gear, as I am glad I held out buying the ATEM MINI Pro in thinking another upgrade is around the corner..... yet it leads me to the bigger question what features would be added in the next update, and do you feel the MINI switcher lines may replace their other studio switchers? Thanks again for bringing in Emily to perform as I can certainly relate the challenge of puting a fun twist to an informative video. I can't imagine the logistics to pulling it off and hope it wasn't too hard, given the current challenges with the pandemic. Again excellent video, and look forward to hearing from you soon. Be well and hope you continue to stay safe...
@photojoseph4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the enthusiasm; I appreciate it! To answer your questions… Resolve doesn't have an export to Premiere, but if you google "convert Resolve to Premiere" you'll probably find something. The ATEM itself only generates a Resolve file, since both the ATEM and Resolve are made by Blackmagic. Live streaming to facebook or twitch is built into the hardware so just a matter of selecting the platform. I did a video on how to stream anywhere else though, here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5SaoJdqqa6Eias - as to future releases, I have no idea what is or isn't coming, and I'm sure that Blackmagic won't totally cannibalize their higher end switching market. They make some VERY high end switchers.

Joseph - With the Mini Pro ISO, can you record the ISO + program file via the USB-C port and somehow provide a web cam output? Maybe send the program video the HDMI out via some type of converter into a USB port on the computer for zoom? If that is done, I guess you would lose the HDMI Multi-view, though. It is possible to send the program out via the Ethernet connection to zoom? I realize the extreme has two USB outs. But $500 more.

@@photojoseph If you have a moment, with the ATEM Mini Pro, is the video encoding higher quality than what say Ecamm Live would put out? Thanks!

I haven't done a comparison but in general, the answer is yes. Hardware encoding is generally better because it has dedicated components to the encode, where a software system is run on your computer and can be compromised by anything else on your system. Plus it is likely to be a better quality encoder to start with.

Great camera moves along with the switching... not as easy as you make it look. Important question that I can’t see any clear explanation for ... you seem to be able to stream without using this USB output, enabling you to record in iso mode! This is amazing.. but can you only do this through the Ethernet port to Facebook, KZbin or twitch? Can you stream to zoom and be able to record the iso inputs! Help!! ;)
@photojoseph3 жыл бұрын
You’ve got it right… I was streaming to KZbin via the built-in encoder (over Ethernet). So the USB port was free for recording. Zoom is not a streaming service (like KZbin or Facebook), but is a chat service (like Skype or FaceTime). So you can’t stream “to” it. You could however stream to an ATEM bridge, and connect that to a computer using an HDMI to USB adapter. Lots of parts though; probably an easier/cheaper way to get the job done.

Hi PJ! Very informative. Do your Panny’s output a Picture Profile that is being fed into the ATEM? Is that what we’re looking at? Like a Natural profile?
@photojoseph4 жыл бұрын
Sort of… you’re not choosing a profile; the profile is V-Log. But you can choose to add a LUT for the preview on the LCD and/or that LUT can be added to the HDMI output. Normally if you were shooting Log and capturing externally (i.e. on a Ninja), then you would NOT want this done. But for this case, you want to live stream a colored image, so yeah, you add the LUT. And you can choose the built-in LUT, or you can load any LUT you want onto the camera.

I missing a SPDIF/Tos-Link Input to make the ATEM really round. My sound comes now out from a RME UFX+ over the ADAT/SPDIF Port. So would then mute on the ATEM out all Sounds except the one from the embedder...what me turns on is also about the video and sound syncing...will that be in sync...video is coming from Sony Alpha 5100 and 6300 and a iPhone X pro with filmic (cross converter) and iPhone 11 Pro over wired NDI in to a Apple TV which runs sienna NDI Monitor and should then go the the ATEM...
@photojoseph3 жыл бұрын
I don't honestly fully understand your question, but I think I do… you can input audio into the ATEM via the four HDMI inputs or the two mic/line-level 3.5mm inputs. You can turn any one of those audio inputs on or off. The two 3.5mm inputs can have a delay programmed in to bring them into sync. If your audio is digital run it through a DAC to get 3.5mm output. Or, run that into a camera so it's in sync with video on the HDMI input. Does that help?

Lets talk timecode....Is there anyway to get timecode out of the ATEM to send to my GH5-S and external multitrack audio recorder? or Into the ATEM from an external source that they can all sync to?
@photojoseph3 жыл бұрын
Nope. The ATEM Mini generates time of day timecode but does not send it out. There’s a sync that happens with BMDPCC cameras, but nothing else seems to be able to access that.

Thank you for such helpful tutorials, and live musician, Emily wow. Does the Atem Mini Pro ISO or Extreme allow one HDMI output to act as a 'live view' on a separate screen also? For example in a live concert, could I use an HDMI output for a live room feed while using the other HDMI output as the multiview monitor?

Hi Joseph, thanks for the great video! I'm also a FCPX user, and I produce podcasts (in case the username didn't give it away) We're looking at getting the Atem Mini Pro ISO to do the camera cuts for podcasts, but there's quite a lot that we do in post with some of our clients, so having the functionality to go back and edit shots is very useful. You touched on this briefly towards the end that you may have figured out a way to work around the 'editing from scratch'. .Is there a way to create a multi-cam with all of the edits pre-made based on the file exported from Resolve? Our podcasts are usually over an hour, so re-doing the whole edit isn't something i would like to do. Many Thanks Jacob

ridiculous question but pertinent from my perspective. What do you consider to be the title of your role in this video outside of presenting it as a tutorial, but more accurately, from the perspective of the performer, Facilitator, Engineer, Producer, On line Editor, DOP, etc.? From the clients perspective I understand what you do, but have a difficult time putting a label on it.

Ha… in no real world environment would on person perform every role I did - plus record a KZbin video of it! Every title you used is appropriate. It’s why we just call ourselves “content creators”. It basically means “You do it all”. From the performer’s perspective, there is no single title.

thanks for the great content Joseph! i'm new to this so excuse me if this is a stupid question. When livestreaming do you or can you use a LUT or colorgrade on the spot? or do you need something like an Atomos? thanks in advance
@photojoseph4 жыл бұрын
That all depends on the camera. You can NOT load a LUT into the ATEM Mini; it just streams whatever it gets. However if you are using BMPCC cameras, then you can actually do complete color correction from within the ATEM itself. If you want to record in Log, then if your camera supports Log wtih LUT output, like the LUMIX G or S series do, then you can record the native Log video internally, and output an image with a LUT applied over HDMI, feeding into the ATEM (that's what I did here). If your cameras do NOT do that, then you can use an ATOMOS recorder. Feed Log into the ATOMOS, and in the ATOMOS you can apply a LUT, and then choose to add the LUT to the HDMI output. So you would record in Log to ProRes in the ATOMOS, and output the image with the LUT to the ATEM.

Not using the ATEM, no. That only works live. If you want to edit and add transitions and titles, you do that in an editor like Resolve, Premiere or Final Cut Pro.

That’s hardware, not software. The Pro and the Pro ISO have it. Enable it with the software but it exists in hardware.

Great video! I'm wondering if you've had any luck taking the in-camera recording at higher resolution from a camera OTHER THAN a Pocket Cinema 4k/6k and substituting it into the project produced by the ISO? I have an original ATEM Mini, and I've noticed that there it totally takes over the Pocket 4k. If I'm running timecode to my other cameras, I can't jam it into my Pocket 4k when it is hooked up to the ATEM Mini. (I can set both the external timecode and ATEM timecode to the time of day... but I'd bet they would be skewed. I haven't had time to test.) I have to leave the Tentacle Sync hooked up to the Pocket 4k and record the audio timecode to have a reference that is consisted with my other cameras. Any other suggested workflows for combinations of Pocket and non-Pocket cameras with the ATEM Mini?
@photojoseph4 жыл бұрын
As discussed on the live show… haven’t followed though on that, but it’s all about the timecode.
@robwebb20524 жыл бұрын
@@photojoseph Thanks for all your help! Your channel is a wealth of information. I'm trying to decide if upgrading to the ISO is worth it since I already have 3 Tentacle Sync units and a variety of cameras. Honestly, at that price point it is worth it to just have the redundant recordings, but being able to import the internal camera recordings from any camera right into the project and preserve all the switching would just be icing on the ATEM cake.

Hi! That was very helpful. Thanks a lot. Do you have any specific procedure for replacing the Atem video files with the 4k files so they are easily synced?
@photojoseph4 жыл бұрын
I haven’t revisited that idea. I need to do it!
@dbupgrabacionesclasicas4 жыл бұрын
@@photojoseph I guess that manuallly is possible to add more video tracks and sync each one with its 1080 version. Because if we replace the files, the 4K files are not going to be the same than the Atem files and they are not going to be in sync and then it will ruin the DaVinci project.
@franciscosunworld4 жыл бұрын
Could you sync the time and date of your Lumix cameras with and Android phone? That would make it very easy for editing as FCP X could sync by "time"...what are your thoughts? Thanks
@photojoseph4 жыл бұрын
Yes, or more accurately, you would sync all the LUMIX cameras with an actual timecode generator (see kzbin.info/www/bejne/hJ7HlmmQbMt7laM for more info) and that would keep all four cameras in sync with each-other. However there is no way to feed timecode into the ATEM, so the timecode would be off. You could try to manually get the timecode in the cameras to match Time of Day on the ATEM, but it's very very unlikely to be frame accurate. If you're off by a frame, you may as well be off by an hour. OK maybe that's an over exaggeration, but it'd be virtually impossible to make it perfectly accurate. It'd be best to get the LUMIX cameras in sync, then shift their timecode into perfect accuracy using software like Tentacle Sync Studio.

@PhotoJoseph I’ve been unable to find an answer to this question, but if anyone knows I think you’re the guy. In order to avoid copyright infringement when live streaming weddings or other events to KZbin, I am opting for a Zoom live stream. However, because Zoom requests that I plug-in my ATEM mini pro ISO into the laptop, I am left with no USB-C port to then save my file to directly out of the ATEM. Operating off of a 2015 MacBook Pro means that I only have one additional USB-A port and I fear that this port is not fast enough to support the writing speed of a multi camera live event. What is your advice for safely live streaming so as to avoid copyright, but also seamlessly stream into the Zoom platform? Your feedback is greatly appreciated! Keep up the awesome content.
@photojoseph4 жыл бұрын
You’re right to be concerned - KZbin will strike your video even if it’s an unlisted stream. Zoom might be a way around that, but there are other CDNs that you can use that will give you a private stream without the copyright concerns. But if you do want to use Zoom, first know that once you connect the ATEM to your laptop, the USB port changes modes and you can’t record the program on another USB port on your computer - it doesn’t work that way. What I would recommend is that you use an HDMI to USB video converter, so you’d an still use the HDMI-out from the ATEM, but convert that to a “webcam” for the computer to see. Then you can still use the ATEM Mini Pro’s USB port to record the Program (or if you’re using the ATEM Mini Pro ISO, the Program and the ISOs as well).
@pinnaclephoto4 жыл бұрын
PhotoJoseph That’s an excellent idea! I wasn’t even aware of the HDMI to USB conversion to be honest. I’ll see what options are available online and explore this as I move closer to my live-streams. Would you have any recommendations for other CDNs that you believe to be potentially superior to Zoom for private live streams for clients and their close family and friends? So long as people are familiar with the platform, I would be open to the suggestions. I’m selecting Zoom mostly because of its recent popularity and the fact that many people, even much older individuals who are sometimes not very technically savvy, have heard and are at least generally familiar with the Zoom platform.
@photojoseph4 жыл бұрын
I used to use a CDN called “Shark” before KZbin did what I needed, but I have no idea what they are doing these days. If you use a custom CDN, you’ll most likely embed the video on your own website and tell everyone to go there to watch. Zoom is only 720p I believe and just not designed for the kind of thing you’re planning. A wedding deserves better quality. And finally don’t wait to buy an HDMI to USB converter. They have been very hard to come by since COVID. Leave nothing to the last minute. Buy now, and test test test.
@pinnaclephoto4 жыл бұрын
@@photojoseph Absolutely. I have my setup assembled now and I'm just toying around with options for making sure the workflow is as streamlined as possible. The Zoom HD feed appears to be 1080 and the quality is quite nice. Recording with OBS is my only options if I'm using that route. It would be great to design a backend webpage for the couple/client using a CDN like Cloudflare where they could access their stream. I'm digging into this option more today. I'm disappointed with BMD about the single function of the USB-C output and the fact that there's physically only one port. They seem to have pigeonholed users into and "either / or" scenario. I know they make splitters, but I don't think a USB-C splitter would actually work around this issue if, in fact, your statement about the recording function disappearing once it's plugged in as a webcam is accurate. Thanks for your feedback! Valuable stuff!
