Hi everyone and welcome to my new videos of Nursing Series.
I finally have dedicated some time to start recording these type of videos where I`m planning to share with you about my experience of being an Enrolled Nursing student at TAFE Queensland, Australia.
I will divide each topic into a specific video giving more details on each.
The reason why I have decided to record such series is because I had many people from mums forums and also my friends from other states of Australia asking me about this course and how it was like to study a full-time.
I understand that nursing is a very popular profession this days. It was, is and will always stay on demand. Therefore, many people choose this field as a stable source of income till the rest of their lives. Even though it`s not an easy job to be honest.
I hope I will cover all information that I`ve been asked about during these 18 months of studying and also if you have any questions, please leave them in the comment section below. I`ll be happy to answer them all or combine it into a new video.
Thank you for watching!

Hi Yana, I been really enjoying your series on Nursing. Thank you for making it. I've just been offered a place in the DoN at Tafe in NSW and super excited to start. I just want to add that while I was preparing for the interview portion of the application process it was very hard to find info on interview questions for the interview. I just had my interview yesterday and thought while I still remember I will post what I remember here for future people who might be looking for these questions. Below are what I was asked in my 10mins interview with 2 teachers from Tafe. 1. Tell me about yourself. 2. Tell me about a time you were in a difficult situation. 3. If a patient tell you they're in pain and ask for panadol what would you do? 4. You are looking after 2 patient. I is screaming in pain and the other wants a bedpan. What do you do? 5. Family visiting a patient said that they're (family) is in pain and need panadol. What do you do? Hope this questions help future students to be more prepared then me. Goodluck to everyone who wants to follow this career path.

Hi there! I’m absolutely loving going through each and every nursing video you have uploaded. I was just wondering regarding placement do the hospitals look down on those who can’t actually do super late shifts every single time? I’ve applied for diploma of nursing and i have 2 kids so i’m a bit worried they will make me do loads of late shift and i may not always be able too
@yana.miller
@yana.miller 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, thank you! ☺️ I think it will depend on the facilitator and your circumstances. But just have a chat with them. Usually TAFE and uni would worn students to be mindful about placement commitment, because it involves shift rotations and prolong attendance (120 or 160 hours durations). As students they want us to be able to experience different loads of AM and PM shifts. But yeah, as I said, just have a chat with them and see what can be done. I wish you luck either way 🙂

Can you tell me how much comes out of your pay each week? Is it only around $20-30? Thank you.
@yana.miller
@yana.miller 4 жыл бұрын
It comes out always different because I work as casual and therefore my income every fortnight changes. Not much but still. Sometimes they take around $20 or $40 or 50. Sometimes more. And sometimes nothing at all. I guess they estimate with each pay how much it would be per year and then withdraw a certain percentage.

Hello Yaua, i've decided to have a change in my life and pursuit my nursing childhood dream, and your videos are inspiring! Originally wanna go for TAFE EN, then i saw some Uni have 2 years accelerated RN programs which could save one year time. If May i ask do you know about accelerated programs and your opinion on these programs ? i will be studying full time but i just a bit worry on the course workloads compare with 3 days EN workload, and also the vacancies of the program and TAFE EN. thank you and i love your photo shootings as well :) (i'm a photographer some years ago) Cheers & Stay Healthy
@yana.miller
@yana.miller 4 жыл бұрын
Oh thank you Lukmiu :) Yeah, I miss photography. I wish I could do it more, but at the moment my studies and work take all my time. Yes, I`ve heard about fast-track RN degrees. Although I don`t know the exact load of this course if you talk about amount of days per week as a full-time attendance, but it is still 6 semesters length with the amount of units (or information) that 3 year course would have. As an example I will give you this link to one of Tasmania`s Universities to have a better understanding: www.utas.edu.au/courses/chm/courses/h3v-bachelor-of-nursing-fast-track-st-vincents#entry-requirements If you go to "Course Structure", you will be able to see the amount of units + clinical pracs per each semester. Also you can read there about their entry requirements for this type of course, including ATAR score. I think the best way is to directly call the uni at the state you live in. But first, do a research to see which uni offers this program. If I`m not mistaken, they may have an intake this September. Good luck :)

I had a look at this FAST RN as well, but the uni that offered them is not reputable in my opinion. Search for reviews and specifically the employee reviews. it's superficial, but to me it matters how the organization's treat their employees.

@yana.miller
@yana.miller 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Sandra, as far as I know Mater Education provides same 18 month full-time study course for Enrolled Nursing as TAFE does. I`m not sure about price ranges though. If you wanna work with babies, why don`t you find a midwifery/nursing dual course? This will safe your time and will allow you to work with babies in the future. Or you can do your EN diploma through Mater Education and then undergo an additional education towards mother and babies cares: www.matereducation.qld.edu.au/Course/Mother-and-Infant-Care-for-Enrolled-Nurses

Men are not many if to compare to amount of women. Aged care has about quarter of man working there vs women nurses. I would say there are more male AINs than male nurses. Only some women in aged care would prefer male not to do their cares. Other don't care. That's from my experience.

Sorry to hear about that! We are getting closer now to mid year semester, which means it will start soon. Maybe that`s why all the spots were taking. But sometimes it also depends on the demand in the area of the campus. I would suggest to (if distance of travelling is not very important) apply in another nearest campus. And then for the next semester transfer back to your area. Trust me, many students after first few weeks of study decide that nursing is not for them and withdraw before census date. Good luck :)

Converse shoes have few problems for nursing field: the fabric type and white rubber bottom. TAFE is very strict on professional appearance, therefore shoes should be fully black with no bright labels or any sort of bright colour designs. Therefore, white rubber bottom is not a best choice. As for fabric, think about it this way - if you dropped a syringe with open needle on your foot, what would be the consequences? Especially if the needle was used on a patient for injection. That`s why shoes should be made of leather to protect you, fully black for a professional appearance and in my personal opinion very comfy cause you`ll be running on the floor for long hours during 3-4 weeks of your full-time placement.

Hi Yana. I've enrolled to do fulltime as well with tafe . I'm just wondering, how hard is it? you think it's possible to get it done within 1 year?

Hi there! Congratulations 😃 I'm not sure if you can shrink the course of 18 months length into one year. When I was a tafe student, we had a standard number of subjects per each semester. It's not like a uni where you can pick. Here it's pretty much all prepared for you. Therefore I'm not sure. I guess you'll need to call Tafe to confirm.
