Epson P900 set up

This is a great printer. It is enhanced by being about to use Epson LFP Accounting software which allows you to monitor and cost of paper and ink usage for each print and over a period. You can even find out the amount of specific ink used in a print and the cost of that ink and paper. The Epson Media Installer also allows you to create profiles with 3rd party paper that is loaded into the drop down box of the media type with the appropriate ICC profile incorporated .

I recently bought this printer, and I'm very happy with it. I don' print a whole lot so I still have some ink left from the original package. I only had to replace two greys.

Kevin, I always enjoy your informative videos. I have the P-900 and it is a great printer. When I did my initial setup I had to choose either wireless or usb connection. I assuming that the same computer can't have both. Also you corrected some mis-information I received from another source that said if you use Epson Print Layout you don't need to set the media or paper type on the printer. The reviewer said that was only necessary when printing from Photoshop or another source. Thanks for clarifying that in your video.

I am looking at buying one sometime early next year. Will wait for the Epson rebate when I do. I wish they would just reduce the price instead of jumping through hoops and wait for the rebate. Don't like the fact that the inks are smaller. I liked the older 80ml tanks. Not having to swap out MK and PK tanks is a great thing. The P800 was the last one that I owned before selling it 6 years ago. I also had way too many papers.

I print to a Epson P 800 which I’ve had now for the last 6+ years, truly an exceptional printer. Kevin, if you would consider doing a printing from Lightroom video at some point, I would really love that. That’s my go to source. There are definitely are some idiosyncrasies that I wish somebody would explain. Such as why all the papers don’t show up when you go into the driver…

Thank you for this introduction to the P900. Hopefully in the near future there can be a demonstration on how to print cards(eg Christmas cards) on this printer. Have you ever thought of zoom printing classes?

Why would you have to put the print settings (paper type, etc) in both the computer print software and in the printer console? Seems like there would only need to be input into the printing software manager and that gets communicated to the printer. Lacking in efficiency.

When using Epson Print Layout you must say on the mobile device what paper is in the printer and the printer needs to have the same thing set. That way when you send the file over wirelessly it matches with the printer and correct ICC profiles are applied.

If you are printing using the normal printer driver as as with Word you click the "driver paper priority" toggle and the driver will override any thing that is set on the printer. Page 72 of the P900 manual. Also in the Print Layout app if you select "App Paper Settings Priority" the same thing happens. The app overrides what is set in the printer screen. Page 22 of the Epson Print Layout Manual

Could you comment on whether the print head cleaning resolved the issue with the VLM noted on your initial nozzle check. Did you have to do more than one cleaning? Did you then do another nozzle check? I am concerned that clogging was present right out of the box, using more than the already limited ink provided.

It just needed one cleaning run. Most likely the line did not charge all the way on initialization.

Starter inks? mine came with full 50ml

they are full sets of inks, no starters, BUT: the initialisation will suck out 32 ml's out of each cartridges leaving only about 18 ml's in each cartridge after priming the tubing system and print head and your waste ink tank is down to 5% capacity (weight increased with about 273 gram), hence the necessity of the second waste ink tank supplied with the printer.

Please do not buy roll paper adapter as all versions I had a chance to use and spent money on are DAMAGING paper and are unusable.
