I have so many questions. Why did you start with a gray text? If I start with a yellow text instead, will it make the end result look completely different from yours? Is there a way to get this 3D text effect against a transparent background so that I can place it over a graphic? halp.

Thanks for the tut. Good work. Question- can this be done on a transparent background, or does PS need to have a solid bg in order to create the shadows? I have some photos that I want to add 3D text to, but a solid color bg won't give me the effect I want. Basically, I have holiday photos with some empty wall space, and I want to add holiday text to appear that they're coming out of the wall. Feedback is appreciated!

72 dpi is for screens, monitors, phones, LEDs, etc. 300 dpi is for printing

Update: if you change the "style" to "unlit texture" then this doesn't happen. But now my "3D" tab will only show me either the background mesh OR text, not both together (postcard & words). If I select both it just asks me what I want to make a new 3d layer out of ?? Anyone have any recommendations? 😂

Tip: My photoshop set the default render title size to maximum when he has his on medium. I realized something was up when it said my render would take 2 hours so I went back and compared my dialogue box with his.

The 3D extrusion option is greyed out. That would be a helpful tidbit to have as it seems that's not a typical setting to have available. I'll go to google. Oh, and 7 minutes is great, but man, you go so fast I have to back it up and pause every 5 seconds. It's still a 25 minute tutorial. But thanks for posting it, I'm following along, I hope it works.

If your computer doesn't meet the minimum specs for 3 D then it will be greyed out (in my case).

Mine was grayed out, but I when I switched from CMYK mode to RGB, it fixed the issue.
